First Impression:
 After reading the essay for the first time, what is your overall impression?
I enjoyed reading your essay. It was well written, and nicely put together.

1. Introduction
 Is there a good title? Does it draw you, the reader, into the paper?
The title is good. It is much better than the generic “Rhetorical Analysis Essay” as a title.
 What is the essay’s thesis? Is it clearly worded? Does it provide a focus for the rest of the
essay? Does the thesis address the rhetorical effectiveness of the argument itself rather
than the opinion or position it takes?
His thesis states how Wiesel uses empathy, credibility, and factual evidence in his speech. It
is clearly worded, and provides a good foundation for the rest of the essay. He addresses the
rhetorical effectiveness of the argument rather than discussing the argument’s opinion.

2. Content
 How clearly are the body paragraphs related to the essay’s thesis?
Every body paragraph responds to the thesis, and does a great job analyzing the strategies
brought up in his thesis.
 Which topic sentences could be more focused?
I think that all of your topic sentences are clearly focused around your thesis statement.
 Does the writer use examples from their rhetorical text to illustrate his/her Points? What
about other examples?
Yes, he used quotes from the speech and incorporated them into his paper to display his
point. You didn’t really use any outside information though.
 Where could the writer use more detail?
There is sufficient amount of detail provided in the body paragraphs. You did a great job
explaining your points.
 Is the essay organized – that is, can you follow the writer’s ideas? Does the essay need
transitions?
Your essay is very well organized. You had very nice transitions.

3. Conclusion
 Is there a conclusion?
Yes, the conclusions was clear and does a good job of wrapping up the essay.

4. Assignment Requirements
 Does the essay meet the minimum requirements for length?
I think it could be maybe just a tad bit longer.
 Does the essay meet MLA guidelines for spacing, heading, and a works cited page?
Yes, you followed all the MLA guidelines. Although you forgot to include a works cited
page.

Comments:
 Which parts of the essay are especially clear or stand out for you, the reader?
I thought that your explanation of why he is a credible source was very interesting.
 What questions do you have that are not answered in the essay?
You could probably reiterate the speeches purpose in your conclusion just a little more
clearly.
