THE NATIONAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

ADVISORY: To all hospitals participating in the National Internship Program

March 14, 2020

Subject: Complete Suspension of Internship Program from March 15 to April 12,

2020 in the National Capital Region

In conjunction with the Presidential Executive Order declaring one-month community

quarantine for the National Capital Region (NCR), the suspension of classes has been
extended from March 15 to April 12, 2020 including internships in the National Capital
Region (CHED COVID-19 Advisory No.2). Hospitals outside Metro Manila will be
guided by directives of the Local Government Units (LGU) and the CHED Regional
Offices.

Interns are unlicensed physician trainees. As trainees they are not part of the official
workforce of the hospital.

Since the regular internship clinical rotation training program is suspended for a month
and to meet internship learning objectives, the hospitals shall implement home-based
alternative learning modalities both on-line and non-electronic strategies (i.e. printed
guides, handouts, modules for self-study). They may also offer on-line review classes or
use printed guides, handouts or review materials for the Physician Licensure
Examination.

The alternative learning modalities will be credited in lieu of the suspended clinical
rotation without the need for a make-up schedule.

The provisions of this Advisory are approved by the APMC President, endorsed by the
APMC National Internship Committee, and are effective for the period stated by CHED
or Local Government Units (LGU) or for as long as the state of Public Health Emergency
exists.

This March 14, 2020 Advisory supersedes the March 12, 2020 Advisory.
