THEME: Overcoming Challenges

LESSON: Discovering Personal Challenges

QUARTER: First Quarter

PROGRAM STANDARD: The learner demonstrates communicative competence


through his/ her understanding of literature and other texts types for a deeper
appreciation of Philippine Culture and those of the other countries.

GRADE LEVEL STANDARD: The learner demonstrates communicative competence


thrugh his/ her understanding of literature and other text types for a deeper appreciation
of World Literature, including Philippine Literature.

CONTENT STANDARD: The learner demonstartes understanding on how world


literature and other text types serve as ways of expressing and resolving personal
conflicts and also how to use startegies in linking textual information, repairing,
enhancing communication, public speaking, emphasis markers in persuasive texts,
different forms of modals, reflexive and intensive pronouns.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learner composes a short but powerful persuasive


text using a variety of techniques and devices.

DOMAIN OF LITERACY: Literature

LEARNING COMPETENCY: Determine the effect of textual aids on the understanding


of the text. (EN10RC-1a 2.15.2)

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:

A. Employ story grammar as an aid in understanding the story.


B. Characterize people on the basis of their words and actions.
C. Cite examples of incidents or experiences that show similarities to those in the
selection.

III. METHODOLOGY

A. Activity
Activating Prior Knowledge: The teacher will be showing a picture of a “Wax.”
She will be asking students to answer questions about wax.
1. What are usually made of wax?
2. What are the benefits of wax?
3. Wax is susceptible to what?
4. In what way can wax be harmful?

The questions will serve as a hint for the selection that they are about to read.

The teacher will be asking the students to answer the anticipation-reaction guide.

Vocabulary Spinner
The students will describe the unfamiliar words mentioned in the story (comfortable,
overlapping, plunged, hurtled, vengeful) using a vocabulary spinner by

As the activity progresses, the students will be guided by this thoughts“ How do
personal challenges make you a better person?”

1. The class will be divided into three groups, each representing a particular event in the
story “Daedalus and Icarus.
