Purpose: The purpose of this activity is to provide the summary and an evaluation of the source's
central idea(s) and give the students a general idea of the source's content.

Based on the reading 10 & 11 answers the following questions:

1. How did Laurel relay his message? How can you describe his writing style and words he
used?
Laurel used first person point of view to relay his message which is direct to the
ideas. His words are uncomplicated to understand and the message he wants to express
was clear and precisely. Laurel’s persuasive writing explains his thoughts about the
government which definitely led the topic of the reading.

2. What is the main idea of this writing?

Laurel’s main idea of his writing is about the sprouts and corruption, evilness and
how to stop the said issues. I can put it into real life situation in which our political
system is the example of it. I think it’s impossible to prevent the occurrence of such evils
especially when they are longing for the power resulting to evilness that greatly affects
the people in the society.

3. What do you think is PL’s purpose for writing this text?

Laurel’s purpose for writing this text is for the government to be a leader wherein
they lead his people in brighter future and to prevent them from graft, corruption, and
evilness. In scale of 1 to 10, only 2% in the government official are virtuous while the 8%
are not. All of us are longing for a good government that will lead, protect and strive for
our future not the one who are chasing for self-intention or power.

4. Based on his writing style will this purpose be achieved? Why?

His purpose to help prevent government from evilness will not be achieved if the
government itself is not helping themselves. Graft and corruption is still strong up until
now not only in our government but also in different circumstances. We can only have
better future if it starts with our own self, being a leader and having a moral in our own
self because one day one of us can lead the country and if we already practicing this
mindset, being honest with moral, maybe we can have a brighter future.
