Discussion

Facebook and other social media are are popular and its growth has been rapid around the world.

Facebook usage has become epidemic and significant in people's lives and well-being. Communicating through
Facebook has changed the way people connect with their social networks. With the various functions that
Facebook offers, it allows users to do multiple activities such as presenting themselves to others, maintaining
existing relationships, and building new networks and relationships. As a consequence, some users may spend a
great amount of time on Facebook and their usage may affect social relationships. Vikanda Pornsakulvanich
(2017).

Vikanda states that ‘high self-monitoring was related to the excessive use of Facebook. The more time a person
spent on Facebook, the higher the likelihood that person would be addicted to Facebook’.

Many people are addicted to Facebook.

However the social media are very helpful for academic usage.

Ali M. et al. ,2016, present a study which shows that social media consists of a variety of communication tools
such as Blogs, collaborative projects, social networking sites, content communities and virtual world or virtual
game worlds.

Social media users are provided with unlimited opportunities to communicate interact, socialize and share with
each other.

The acceptance or adaptation of technology is important but also a challenging issue.

Users can share information worldwide. However, it can also be a source of distraction for the students.

They found some related factors, which include individual psychological characteristics such as personality, social
influence, information quality, system usefulness, satisfaction, age and gender as well as confirming the issue of
distraction causing by these sites.

Conclusion
Social media are very helpful. There are many advantages of their use. We can use social media every day and for
every reason, e.g. communicate, sharing things to the Internet, university etc.

Social media might distract us for our goals.
