STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

What makes a country great? What are the factors that identifies a country as powerful, or
developed? As a Nigerian citizen these are the questions that I often ask in relation to my country
Nigeria. Why does the country constantly regress and falls back in the developmental spectrum?
Understanding the world and how it works come in various forms. Global Affairs is one of the
ways to analyze world problems and implement ways to improve or solve these problems in
order to make world more progressive. As an international student in America my goal is to
understand more about how governments and nations operate in order to help Nigeria in any way
possible is what brought about my interest in Global Affairs. I believe that my education and
experience match the needs of the positions available that would be available in NGO’s and even
governmental organizations. Given these requirements, I am certain that I have the necessary
skills to successfully work and develop myself as well as perform above expectations.
I am a results-oriented college student Master of Arts (M.A.) in Global Affairs with a
3.91 GPA currently attending George Mason University. In the summer of 2017, I worked as a
customer service intern at Petroleum Equalization Fund in Nigeria, as well as working as an
assistant secretary and teacher at Redeemers Private Secondary school. I often volunteer with
NGOs such as the Sterling Law center during the secondary school human right summit. Over
the past two years I have participated in Girl child foundation seminars in various primary and
secondary schools in Nigeria which educated the Nigerian girl child on her rights as a woman
and supports them in various forms such as donations and in-class lectures.
These experiences have helped to improve my service skills and communication with
customer. While working on academic and extracurricular projects, I have developed proven
communication, creative thinking, and multitasking skills. I constantly seek to improve my skills
and abilities will benefit organization in the field of Global Affairs. My goal as a Global Affairs
student is to work as a Nigerian representative in the United Nations or work under a branch that
focus on the rights and empowerments of women and children, as well as working in a non-profit
organization or NGO that puts the need of the people first. As the next generation which Nigeria
would be placed upon, I seek to lead my country unto a path of development and power so that
people would look at the country and see it as reliable and strong.
