The Influence of Information Technology in The Field of Medical Records

Information technology is a set of tools that help work with information processing. The
development of information technology is very influential in the health sector such as medical
records. As one of the personnel who has an important role to improve the quality of health
services. With the use of this information technology, it is expectedthat the quality of health
services can be improved. Of course both in hospitals and health centers that have implemented
computer-based medical recors will benefit greatly from this information technology. Viewed
from the patient registration system, medical record file management and diagnosis coding.

From patient registration, the benefits of this information technology include, on a new
patient form that is already computerized, yhe registration officer only needs to input patient data
into the computer then the computer will automatically process the data for storage. For old
patients with a computerized registration system, searching for patient’s identity simply by
entering the name or medical record number of the patient sought. That way it will greatly save
time and energy for the officers, while for patients there is no need to wait longer and can avoid
too many patient queues. In addition to the numbering of medical records even if it is
computerized it will be easier. Because officers will automatically get a new medical record
number that has not been used quickly and the possibility of using multiple medical record
numbers is also getting smaller.

In terms of file management in the filing room, it will be easier because the officers only
need to input the loan date and return data and the clinic that borrows the system (computer) will
automatically save the data. So later when there is a clinic or doctor who wants to borrow a file
but the file is not in the filing room, the filing officercan search it through a computer so that the
file location will be known. Besides this, the existence of this information technology can
facilitate the accuracy of the timely return of medical record files, this can be used as one of the
assessments in hospital accreditation.
In terms of diagnosis coding can be simplified and accelerated by the presence of
electronic ICD, this will be very helpful because the clerk just simply typed the leadterm then
searched and clicked on the search results of the leadterm until the correct diagnosis was found.
With this electronic ICD it is very easy for coding officers to look for a diagnosis because they
do not need to open the ICD many times, especially when using ICD-10 volume 3 then matching
it to volume 1. With the advancement of information technology in making the system indexing
it was very helpful for index officers to enter the diagnosis code. If the diagnosis code has been
entered, the diagnosis name will automatically appear according to the code entered. This really
saves time because the coding officer does not need to type name of the diagnosis. The data
entered will be safer if stored on a computer.

With the advancement of information technology is very influential in health services,

especially in the field of medical records including the services provided to patients will be faster
and more secure the accuracy of the data. For medical records officers the benefits are being able
to save time, save energy and make it easier in the work process. What’s more important is that
the data entered can be collected and organized into one, making it easier for officers to access
and view data and stored data will not be lost and will not be scattered.
