SOFTWARE PROJECT MANAGEMENT

SUMMARY (SOFTWARE PROJECT CLOSURE & ROLE OF PM)

1. The source code of a project gets many versions due to constant changes
in design and requirements. The configuration management should keep
up to date with all source code changes.

2. The configuration manager is responsible for updating the source code at

the central repository so that everyone working would have access to the
same. He/she also has to make sure that the developers working should
timely update the repository with their latest version of code. This way you
can achieve a streamlined data management.

3. When you need to compare two data sets, it should be cleaned and
relevant.

4. The project closure in the iterative model would be messy if care and
restraints are not exercised. Top management should not pressurize the
team to include all of the request features in the release.

5. The project manager should make a release plan as it helps to identify

how much resources are left and what is available so that they can be
used in other projects.

6. There is a difference between a functional manager, operations manager,

and a project manager. A functional manager is responsible for providing
oversight for a functional or business unit.

7. An operations manager is responsible for making sure that business

operations procedures are applied correctly.
8. And a project manager is someone who leads the team as a whole to help
the complete team objectives while utilizing their resources to the
maximum.

9. It is the responsibility of a project manager to meet its stakeholder’s

expectations. The project manager also performs communication roles
between the project sponsor, team members, and other stakeholders.

10. If the resources are shared in two or more different projects, the project
manager should proactively communicate with other project managers to
make sure the utilization of the resources is streamlined.

11. The project manager must be aware of all ongoing trends in the market.

12. The PMI triangle consists of technical project management, leadership,

and strategic and business management.

13. A software project manager should not only possess management skills
but also possess technical knowledge as well.

14. He/She should also possess leadership qualities.

15. A good leader is optimistic, collaborative, respectful, visionary,

trustworthy, confident, etc. He/she should also be able to apply critical
thinking to the project.

16. When considering the integration of the project should consider all the
elements that are involved in the project including its complexity. The
three dimensions of complexity are system behavior, man behavior, and
ambiguity.

17. System behavior includes the interdependencies of various

components/modules of the project. Whereas human behavior involves
the interaction between humans and the system.
