The New Disney 

Frog” makes it debut
Princess on the Block  

R​on Clements and John Musker come together to create

something that has never been done in the history of Disney’s

films. Following the forty eighth Disney film, Walt Disney Film
Industry creates a spin off of the original folks tale, “The Frog
Prince”. The making of this film conveys to us the old and new
roots Disney created here. Disney utilizes the ability to generate
a classic animation and fairy tale into one. The Princess and the
Frog will introduce the first African American Princess in the
Disney industry. Making Tiana the ninth Disney Princess, as well
as being the first African American main character in a Disney
film.
In the film, Tiana, an astound cook and underrated waitress who
lives in New Orleans during the Jazz Age, has an overall goal to
own her own restaurant one day. At an attempt to achieve this
goal, Tiana kisses a frog who claims to be a prince who can
grant her wish. After kissing the frog, Tiana falls victim to the
curse the prince is under and sets off in the bayou to find a cure
with the frog prince conquering different obstacles and meeting
new friends and enemies along the way.
Even though “The Princess and the Frog” did not debut until
today, Critics have been buzzing about this diverse film. Before
December, controversies had already been made about the film.
Overcoming those controversies, the Disney film “The Princess
and the Frog” will make its public opening today, December 11th.

A​s the newest Disney movie “Princess and The Frog” hits the
theaters, audiences may notice the flaws within the film. The
long overdue wait for a diverse African American Princess is
here and it is a disappointment. Between the story line and the
characters themselves, critics become unthrilled.
At the core of this newest adventure hitting cinemas today is
Tiana, the newest addition to the Disney Princesses. She is a
brave, hardworking, independent and well spoken girl who has
dreams of owning her own restaurant. With this being the only
African American princess it brings out a lot of controversies
within the movie.
During the movie, Tiana spends most of her time on screen as a
frog, instead of being the beautiful black princess she is. Within
the first 20 minutes Tiana and the prince turn to frogs making it
difficult to realize the diversity being added to the Walt Disney
Corporation. Another realization within the characters would be
Naveen, who at first seems to be a prince of African descent,
which we later find out in the movie the prince is from an Indian
Eurasion descent. With many debates developing on the goal of
this movie overall, we can definitely say there is more to be
thought through including the relationships Tiana has.
