Science

Is a style of inquiry that attempts to understand nature in rational, logical.

Nature

: the inherent character or basic constitution  of a person or thing

: DISPOSITION, TEMPERAMENT

a creative and controlling force in the universe

an inner force (such as instinct, appetite, desire) or the sum of such forces in an individual.

ANATOMY

 Defined as the study of the structure of an organism and the relationship of it's part
 Derived from two Greek words ana- up and temps or tomos- cutting
 DISSECTION- remains a principal technique to isolate and study structural components of parts
of the human body.
 It covers a wide a wide range of studies, including the structure of the body parts, their
microscopic  organization and the processes which they develop.
 GROSS ANATOMY- is used to describe the study of body parts visible to the naked eye. Gross or
whole
 ANDREAS VESALIUS- considered as the founder of the modern anatomy
 CADAVER- the body that is being dissected

2 basic approach to study anatomy

Systemic anatomy

》Is the study of the body by system

Regional Anatomy

》Is the study of the organization of the body by area. All system are studied simultaneously.

2 general ways to examine the general to examine the general structures of a living person

Surface anatomy

Is the study of external features such as bony projections, which serve as a landmark for locating deeper
structures.

Anatomical imaging
》Involves the use of x- rays, utz, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and other technologies to create
pictures of internal structures.

PHYSIOLOGY

 Attempts to discover and understand how the body works

 The term is combination of two Greek words physis- nature and logos- science or study.
 Is the scientific discipline that deals with the processes or functions of living things

The major goals of physiology:

1. To understand and predict the body's response to stimuli

2. To understand how the body maintains conditions within narrow range of
value in the presence of continually changing internal and external
environments.

As scientific discipline, physiology can be subdivided according to:

1. The organism involved, such as human physiology or plant physiology

2. The organization level
3. A specific or systemic function being studied
