Develop a design brief, which  You have to make a decision at this point in the project: What will you design and create, 
presents the analysis of relevant  for whom and why. You want your decision to be based on sufficient background

● Present​ the main results of your research (from A2) in a concise list of bullet points. ​This must be in your own words!

DEFINITIONS  By consulting sources, I have found out: 


● Fabric is a piece of cloth made by knitting. It can be made from cotton, nylon, and 
others.  
● Textiles are types of fabrics. Some people say that textiles and fabric have the 
same meaning. Examples of textiles are silk, cotton, linen, wool, polyesters, nylon, 
and rayon. 
● Garments are just fabrics and a general term for clothing. 

MANUFACTURING  By consulting sources about manufacturing cotton, I have found out: 


● Firstly, cotton is taken from the plant. Next, they use machine harvesting to clean 
the cotton. Then, they separate seed and cotton. Cotton is transported to the 
factory. 
● After that, cotton is made into threads which will be formed into a ball of yarn. 
Lastly, it is weaved into different products. 
● Sewing is needed to put two fabrics together. Glues also can be used to attach 
pieces of fabric. Some other methods use pressure. 
 

TECHNIQUES AND  By consulting sources such as, I have found out the following information that I can use for 
TOOLS FOR MAKING  designing and creating my product: 
● To draw a pattern I can first measure my body part size by using a ruler.  
● Then I can draw lines of the measurements. The lines can be straight or curvy. 
● I can borrow other’s templates too. 
● The materials I need are scissors, pencils, erasers, paper, and a ruler. 

CLIENT INFORMATION  By consulting sources such as, I have realized the following considerations should be 
taken into account when designing and creating my product: 
● The client is me. 
● I am a teenager, small in size, an Asian boy. 
● My design will be in blue. 
● I just want a normal bag without shiny designs.  

PRACTICAL SKILLS  By completing the practical skills tasks, I have learned the following skills (list & explain): 
● Braiding with fabrics. 
● Sewing a button 
● Some basic sewing such as running stitch, overstitch, backstitch. 
● Tying a finishing knot with the thread 
The skills that will be useful for my project are (list & explain why): 
● Overstitch; It is useful for sewing the sides of the bag. 
● Backstitch; It can be used in adding designs (like characters for example) on the 
bag. 
● Finishing a knot; If I do not use this, all the sewing parts would be loose. 
 
The skills that I still need to practice or want to learn more about are (list & explain): 
● Sewing a button; The last time I tried it didn’t go well.

Product and Purpose   In this project, I will create a blue cotton bag with a bear character design on it. 
 
The purpose of my product is to recycle the old fabrics by making them into a new bag. 

Design Goal  My product will address the design problem of -textiles being quickly sent to landfills- by 
recycling the used and old second-hand clothes which will reduce the amount of waste. 
 

Intended   My product is intended to be used by students including myself. 


Target audience 

Target audience representative  I would describe my client as an Asian small-sized male teenager. 
 
Their needs and wants for the product are carrying the books and other stuff.
