The Sims 4: Global Patch & selectable DLCs - Installation Guide

[Version 1.62.67.1020 / Tiny Living Stuff]

General comments / introduction:

1.) Please review the system requirements for the game, as per the latest available DLC:
https://www.origin.com/esp/en-us/store/the-sims/the-sims-4/addon/the-sims-4-tiny-
living#store-page-section-requirements

2.) We recommend that prior to installing this format of TS4, that you download and install ALL
available Windows updates. On a related note, see the Forum tutorial here for more details:
https://www.games4theworld.club/t20398-the-procedure-entry-point-____-could-not-be-
located-msvcp120-dll-is-missing

3.) The Sims 4 tends to be picked up - erroneously - as "malicious" by many anti-virus programs,
so you need to make sure to add both the (future) install location of your game as well as the
location of your downloads to the "exceptions list" in your anti-virus program. The guide
HERE can give you an initial overview of what needs to be done:
https://www.games4theworld.club/t18501-unable-to-start-initialization-error-at-startup-
135dec40984c6a3800000077

But depending on which anti-virus software you yourselves are using, you may need to do
more research on your own. Don't worry! Even though the game files are picked up by anti-
virus software as malicious, the files are completely safe to use! (it’s what we call a "false-
positive" warning). We suggest you add the following locations to the exceptions list
in your anti-virus software. Later on, once you installed the game, you may narrow-down the
exclusions to only your installed. The Sims 4 game folders. But in order to avoid any problems
during the download of the games and/or the installation process, it is a good idea to add
these exclusions beforehand OR temporarily disable your anti-virus software before
downloading and installing the game.

C:\Program Files (x86)\

C:\Program Files\
C:\Users\(your username)\Downloads\ (Important: If you add this location to the
exclusions, make sure that you REMOVE it from the exceptions
list after installing the game!)

4.) The format at hand is inspired by anadius’s ‘alt-installers’ for The Sims 4, and partially by
G4TW’s old “TS4 Update-Only Ultimate Fix” which was discontinued years ago, and which is
kind of seeing a revival now! Also included are No-Origin-files, courtesy of the group CODEX.
All credits go to them, as G4TW merely repacks everything and provides Support on the
G4TW Forums.

Other than that, the format incorporates several helper-tools made by anadius (dlc-
toggler.exe, dlc.ini), so all credits for that go to anadius as well. The game files themselves
were extracted from an Origin-version of TS4 with all DLCs, and they contain all 18 display
language versions.

5.) We have divided the format into 4 “groups” of components:

- The Sims 4 – Basegame [FIXED]
- The Sims 4 – Legacy Patch (update patch for users with a 32-bit Windows)
- The Sims 4 – Global Patch (update patch for users with a 64-bit Windows)
- The Sims 4 – DLC files
- The Sims 4 – Anadius tools

Those are technically 5 components, but you only have to grab ONE (1) of the patches:
EITHER the Legacy Patch, OR the Global Patch, depending on whether you have a 32-bit or
64-bit Windows operating system. In case of doubt, you can go (under Windows 8 and
Windows 10) to Windows settings => System => About, to check whether your Windows
system is a 32-bit or 64-bit version.

6.) What do the components consist of, and what do they do?
- The Sims 4 – Basegame [FIXED], is essentially a re-release of the vanilla basegame of The
Sims 4, on patch version 1.0.732.20. It does not use an installer like the existing release
from G4TW does, as it is merely in the extract/copy/paste format. We will not re-release
this base game again, after the announcement of the new format has been made.

- The Sims 4 – Legacy Patch, is a re-release of the “Legacy Edition Patch”. There is an
existing version of this patch as well on G4TW, but the old version – despite EA’s best
efforts to “end the 32-bit era with dignity” – was partially bugged, and this re-release
contains newer .exe files, which don’t have the aforementioned bugs anymore. We will
not re-release this patch again, unless something dramatic happens, so this download
will always remain the same, and future .exe files will simply be added as an attachment
to the Forum post.

- The Sims 4 – Global Patch, is an update patch that is in the same extract/copy/paste
format as most G4TW repacks are. It is a collection of files and folders, that people can
apply to their existing base game, and regardless of what previous patch version they are
on! It will be especially beneficial for those people who do not regularly keep up with
(G4TW) repacks of The Sims 4. In this sense, it will serve as a supplement to the existing
“TS4 Must-Read Guide” on G4TW. And this also means, that the new patch will
dramatically decrease the number of steps people have to go through, in order to get to
the latest available patch version. This ‘Global Patch’ includes all base game update files
(ClientDeltaBuild*.package), all DLC update files (Delta => EP*/SP*/GP*/etc.), all 18 &
most current language strings, and of course CODEX’s No-Origin files. We intend to re-
upload this particular patch every time a new CODEX-update becomes available.
- The Sims 4 – DLC files, is a collection of individual DLC folders, that people simply add to
their existing TS4 installation folder. These are the folders that get saved within your TS4
root installation (EP01, EP02, etc.) when you buy a DLC on Origin.

- The Sims 4 – Anadius tools, is a supplement to the format. It contains the dlc-toggler and
a dlc.ini file. All credits for creating these tools go to anadius! After people added
DLC folders as per the previous step, people can very conveniently use the dlc-toggler to
“activate” DLCs within the codex.cfg file, in order for the DLCs to actually show up in-
game. It is not 100% necessary to use the dlc-toggler; if you know what you’re doing you
can edit the codex.cfg file yourselves in order to activate DLCs. But most people won’t
know what to do, so we decided to provide anadius’s tools as a supplement here.

Installation procedure:

1.) Open the file The Sims 4 – Basegame [FIXED].7z, with the program 7-zip. If you do not have
the program yet, grab it for free, from the official website:
https://www.7-zip.org/

2.) After you opened the file in 7-zip, just drag/drop the folder “The Sims 4” out somewhere. We
recommend extracting it under C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86). You can now play
with just the ‘vanilla basegame’, but if you intend to play with the latest update and/or DLCs,
keep reading.

3.) Go inside your basegame TS4 installation folder, and DELETE the subfolder “Game”. This is
a very important step!!!

4.) Make a choice now whether you want or need to grab the Legacy Patch, or the Global Patch.
Again, ONLY grab one (1) of these patches, depending on whether your Windows operating
system is 32-bit or 64-bit. Extra note: you can also apply these patches on top of base
games, that you downloaded from other sources than G4TW!

5.) After you made your choice, open the Legacy Patch or the Global Patch with 7-zip, as with
the base game. Extract all contents inside/into your basegame TS4 installation folder. When
prompted, merge folders and replace all existing files. You can now play a basegame of TS4
that is updated to the latest available patch version.

6.) If you used the Legacy Patch: note that you cannot add DLCs to your installation that were
released after “Realm of Magic” (as of now, these are Discover University & Tiny Living Stuff).
If you wish to add DLCs to your installation, go under the “Game”-subfolder, after you
applied the Legacy Patch. Change the folder inside, from “Bin_LE”, to “Bin”.

Proceed with adding the DLCs that you desire. Take each individual DLC-file (e.g. “EP01 – Get
to Work.7z”), and open again with 7-zip. Depending on what file you got, you will see a folder
inside the .7z archive with a name such as “EP01”, “GP02”, “SP03”, etc. Just extract the
folder, into your existing TS4 installation folder. Merge folders, when prompted.
Now copy the dlc-toggler.exe and dlc.ini files from “The Sims 4 – Anadius tools.7z”, into your
TS4 installation folder as well. Double-click the dlc-toggler.exe then. In the window that pops
up, you will see DLC entries that are either in white (= installed) or red (= not installed). If you
did everything correctly so far, the DLC folders that you just added, should all come up in
white color, in the dlc-toggler, just tick the white entries then, and close the dlc-toggler. You
have now successfully added DLCs to your Legacy Edition! If you like, you can change the
folder name inside “Game”, back to “Bin_LE”, but it is not 100% necessary to do so.

7.) If you used the Global Patch: you can add any DLCs, as you desire (unlike with the Legacy
Patch). This is the patch, that most people will be using, because the majority of people
already have a 64-bit Windows operating system.

You
have now successfully added DLCs to your TS4 installation!

8.) Note that we have pre-modified the codex.cfg files in both the Legacy and Global Patches,
so that all DLC entries are switched off, by default. This is to prevent people from
experiencing the “Pack download in progress”-error. If people really want to use DLCs, they
actively have to use the dlc-toggler.exe (every time) to switch DLCs back on. You must
remember that “installing DLCs” in The Sims 4 always consists of two components: the
addition of the necessary game files to the installation folder of TS4, plus the ‘activation’ of
said DLC within the codex.cfg file. Once you have understood this process, you will be much
closer to … not messing things up.

9.) You can also manually edit the codex.cfg yourself. If a DLC is “switched off” in the codex.cfg,
the entry will look like this:

"SIMS4.OFF.SOLP.0x000000000002EA24"
{
"EntitlementId" "1000000000032"
"Group" "_"
"Version" "0"
"Type" "DEFAULT"
"EntitlementTag" "SP14_MyFirstPetStuff_0x000000000002EA24:191012"

Now compare this with the “switched-on” version of the entry:

"SIMS4.OFF.SOLP.0x000000000002EA24"
{
"EntitlementId" "1000000000032"
"Group" "THESIMS4PC"
"Version" "0"
"Type" "DEFAULT"
"EntitlementTag" "SP14_MyFirstPetStuff_0x000000000002EA24:191012"

The entry next to “Group” must display “THESIMS4PC”, in order for a DLC to be recognized
by the Origin emulator. Theoretically you can just edit that into your codex.cfg files, looking
at the line named “EntitlementTag” to determine which entry belongs to which DLC. Of
course, it will be easier for most people to simply use the dlc-toggler.exe from anadius.

But if for some reason there are really people out there who want to edit the file manually,
then simply make the necessary changes to the codex.cfg file as outlined in the previous
paragraphs, and just save the changes when closing the file. If the system doesn’t let you
save the changes, then temporarily save the new codex.cfg file on your Desktop. Then copy
that new file back to your TS4 installation folder, and under Game => Bin, replacing the
existing file.

Basic troubleshooting guide / Additional notes:

1.) Make sure that you properly merge the Legacy Patch/Global Patch, with the basegame.
Accompanying this text guide here, will be a quick installation walkthrough in a video.
Please check the respective announcement on the G4TW Forums for that.

2.) As said at the beginning of the guide, you must ensure that neither Windows Defender
nor any other antivirus software purge your No-Origin files. As for Windows Defender,
under Windows 10, see the Forum post here:
https://www.games4theworld.club/t32067-two-ways-of-disabling-windows-defender-
under-windows-10
If you have any other antivirus software besides the (built-in) Windows Defender, try
looking at the available options in your software and/or try doing research on how to
properly add ‘exclusions’. If you ever happen to be purged by antivirus software, simply
re-apply the “Game”-subfolder from either the Legacy Patch or the Global Patch (and
then also re-toggle your DLC, with anadius’s DLC-toggler). This will basically restore your
No-Origin files.

3.) We recommend backing up the downloads somewhere, such as on an external hard-

drive or a USB-flash, or multiple ones. In the event that you need to troubleshoot
potential issues later on, you can then simply take files from these downloads (much like
in a shop for spare parts), and copy-paste them back to your TS4 installation folder.

4.) It is also – theoretically – possible to use this format to “roll back” to a previous patch
version, provided you actually have a previous version of the Global Patch (yes, only the
Global Patch, not the Legacy one, because the Legacy Patch doesn’t receive updates
anymore). We don’t recommend doing so however, because in practice the only reason
people do so is for using certain mods or CC. We generally recommend keeping your
game up-to-date, at any time.

5.) For some people, after they copy/paste one of the patches over their existing Sims 4
installation, they might initially get an error like "Orange is not running" when trying to
run the game the first time (after applying the new update). Click away the
error window(s), wait a few seconds, and then try starting the game again.

If it still does not work, try disabling any and all "virtualization" features in your
UEFI/BIOS settings. Please try searching or refer to your specific motherboard
model/number, as a start, and go from there.

Within Windows 10 and Windows 8, you can, in addition, also change something in your
control panel to help with these issues.
Control Panel => Programs => Programs and Features => Turn Windows Features on/off

Uncheck the box named "Hyper-V", there.

6.) At any stage of the installation process, you can change the in-game display language of
the game, by going inside a download and the subfolder # Language Selectors. The folder
is included in the base game, as well as the Legacy and Global Patches. Double-click on
your desired language version, and when you are asked whether you are sure that you
want to import the registry entries, just confirm. It is possible to NOT use these registry
entries as well, but in that case your game will only be in English, and no other language.

Note that the basegame only has 17 language versions: German, English, Spanish (Spain),
Portuguese (Brazil), Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, French, Japanese, Korean, Chinese
Traditional, Italian, Polish, Russian, Czech and Danish.

The Legacy and Global Patches contain the same languages, but in addition to that
anything else that EA may add in the future. For example, as of version 1.60.54.1020,
Chinese Simplified is added.

As mentioned, we will not re-upload the basegame again, so any new language versions
that may be added to the game, will then be found in the Global Patch.

And that is that! This guide was last updated on Thursday, April 9th 2020. Check back on the
G4TW Forums for newer versions of the guide, updates to the patches, general
troubleshooting tutorials/guides, and Support. Have fun, and good luck!
