Note that the Hamadryas baboon troop and Gelada monkeys share an exhibit (home)
with Nubian ibex, a wild goat species with large curved horns) in their habitats in
Africa Rocks at the San Diego Zoo.

a. Hint: They are tan-haired with red faces,

a. Hint: They have dark colored faces with light eyelids and a red
hourglass-shaped patch of skin on their chests.

Note that the tigers are Like human fingerprints, every tiger
has a unique pattern of stripes that can be used to identify it!

a. Hint: Compare two or more of the tigers and find something that makes
YOUR tiger different from the rest!

Take a few minutes and just watch the animals in their

Ask yourself what part of a Elephant’s typical day is occurring as you are
observing:

Note that the elephants are so large, they require an enormous amount of food.
● Elephants may spend 12-18 hours a day feeding (almost double the time we spend at school each day).
● Adult elephants can eat between 200-600 pounds of food a day.
● As herbivores, elephants eat grasses, tree foliage, bark, twigs, and other vegetation daily.
○ Elephants can also drink up to 50 gallons of water a day about as much as a standard bathtub
holds.

1. Do you observe the elephants EATING or DRINKING? Take a second to record the
time the elephant is spending?
a. How is the elephant eating and drinking? What part of their body is used to help them?
i. Hint: Their trunk is composed of more than 40,000 muscles, making it strong and flexible.
