Last Wednesday, It was a great pleasure to meet Somaliland Curriculum
Developer- Mr Abdullahi Yasin. It was a meeting for discussing and posing
questions to the curriculum developer, pertaining the setbacks and challenges
that institute had overcome last twenty years. Mr Abdullahi Yasin is a great honor
with good personality and jubilant, He answered all the quesuitions we posed,
and answered briefly and fluency. He was a loyal man for his task and also the
Education in Somaliland. Abdullahi delays some of his fruitful meeting because of
us, he shows his credibility and personality.

It was long interview about two hours, we pose several questions pertaining the
development and introducing the curriculum. Nevertheless, he narrates us the
history of Somaliland Education, he said: "After falling the regime government of
General Mohamed Sayed, Somaliland became self declared government. 1998 we
introduce the first curriculum which is called 'Tentative curriculum'. That
curriculum was intended only the primary schools; And we didn't forget the role
of NGOs for printing and designing the books".

Our first question was " Why secondary textbook was not schorly edited, with a
person who has a knowledge for editing books?". He answered "we are always
make effort to review and edit books, It is an important point to take into
account, The human being doesn’t 100 percent correct; every human has a
mistake so that we highly made effort to edit and review the secondary
textbooks".

We proceed our questions " Mr Abdullahi Yasin, we know that every country has
its own mother language; And also the development of a country depend on
'language' so, why we take English as a medium of instruction?".
He answered bravely and said "That is a good question, but one thing you keep in
your mind, There is no language which is knowledge every language their people
make them knowledge or not. As we know our first language in Somaliland is
Somali, it may be made -The future- Somali language as a medium instruction".

It was calm place, long trees and good environment. This institute must have
more scholars in order to develop and introduce important curriculum.
Painstakingly, when developing a curriculum all the stakeholders must come
together, analyse and discuss the new curriculum, enough fund government must
allocate. Curriculum interpret society, whom students we need in order to make
their society wealthy and developed.
