1. Segunda Katigbak
She was Jose Rizal’s “puppy love” and with her the hero was believed to have had “love at
first sight”.

2. Leonor Valenzuela

Daugter of Capitan Juan and Capitana Sanday. They were neighbors when Jose Rizal
boarded in Dona Concha Leyva's Intramuros house durig his sophomore year at the University of
Santo Tomas.
Rizal sent her love notes written in invisible ink, that could only be deciphered over the
warmth of the lamp and candle.

3. Leonor Rivera

Daughter of Antonio Rivera and Silvestra Bauzon


Jose Rizal and Leonor Rivera were cousins, she was widely considered as Jose Rizal's true love for
11 years. But their love failed because Leonor's mother was against on their relationship.

4. Consuelo Ortiga y Rey

Daughter of Don Pablo Ortiga. Consuelo fell in love to Jose Rizal so as Rizal being attracted to
Consuelo's beauty and vivacity but before Jose Rizal's love to Consuelo bloom into a serious affair,
he backed out for two reasons; He was still engaged to Leonor Rivera and his friend Eduardo de
Lete was madly in love with Consuelo.

5. O-Seo San

A japanese samurai's daughter who taught Rizal the Japanese art of painting known as su-mie. She
was also the one who helped Rizal improve his knowledge of Japanese language.
6. Gertrude Beckette
Eldest daughter of Charles Beckett, owner of the Primrose Hill House where Jose Rizal lodged.
Gertrude fell in love to Jose Rizal and helped him with his painting and sculpture. Their love ended
because Rizal suddenly left London for Paristo avoid Getrude who was seriously in love with him.
But before he left London, he was able to finish the group carving of the Beckett sisters and gave it
to Gertrude as a sign of their brief relationship.

7. Nelly Boustead
Nelly was the mestiza daughter of a Filipina and a wealthy French-English merchant.
Rizal having lost Leonor Rivera, entertained the thought of courting other ladies. While a guest of
the Boustead family at their residence in the resort city of Biarritz, he had made friends with the two
pretty daughters of Eduardo Boustead. Jose Rizal courted Nellie but she was deeply infatuated with
Rizal. In a party held by Filipinos in Madrid, a drunken Antonio Luna uttered unpleasant remarks
against Nellie Boustead. This cause Rizal to challenge Luna into a duel. Fortunately, Luna
apologized to Rizal.
Their love affair unfortunately end up not to marriage. It failed because Rizal refused to be
converted to the Protestant faith, as Nellie demanded but they parted as good friends when Rizal left
Europe.
8. Suzanne Jacoby
Just like the other girls who linked to Rizal, Suzanne fell in love to Jose Rizal so as Rizal who was
lonely in a strange country and Leonor Rivera was far away. Being a natural man, he found certain
bliss in Suzanne's company. Suzanne cried when Rizal left Brussels and wrote him when he was in
Madrid.

9. Josephine Bracken
Adapted daughter of George Taufer from Hong Kong, who came to Dapitan to seek Rizal for eye
treatment. Rizal was physically attracted to Josephine, his loneliness and boredom must have been
the reason of him to fall in love again. But Rizal sister suspected her as a spy or a tool of the friars.
Rizal asked Josephine to marry him, but she was not yet ready to make a decision due to her
responsibility to the blind Taufer. Since Taufer’s blindness was untreatable, he Taufer's alone in
Hong Kong and went back to Rizal's arm. Josephine stayed with Rizal’s family in Manila. Upon her
return, Rizal tried to arrange with Father Antonio Obach for their marriage. But , the priest wanted a
retraction as a precondition before marrying them. Rizal upon the advice of his family and friends
and with Josephine’s consent took her as his wife even without the Church blessings. Rizal regarded
Josephine as his wife until his last breath.
