On the basis of the meaning that they convey (function), sentences can be divided into five
main types.
Declarative Sentence
Imperative Sentence
Interrogative Sentence
Exclamatory sentence
Optative sentence
1. Assertive or declerative sentence
They want information, and they always end with a question mark.
3. Imperative Sentence
Do your homework.
Close the door.
Wait for me.
Call me tomorrow.
Polish my shoes.
Please give me your pen.
Do not waste your time.
4. Exclamatory sentences
Express some strongl feelings of mind as joy, sorrow, surprise, or wonder. An exclamatory
sentence, or exclamation, is a more forceful version of a declarative sentence. In other words,
an exclamatory sentence makes a statement (just like a declarative sentence), but it also
conveys excitement or emotion.
Exclamatory words
Exclamatory words are words that generate a strong emotional response. Here is a list of
common ones but you can certainly add your own ideas so you’ll have a quick and ready list of
exclamatory words to use in your writing.

5.Optative sentences
An optative sentence is one that expresses a hope or a wish or a prayer. This kind of sentence
