Assessment description

Students are required to submit a research document outlining the key principles of
computer networking, with examples for each principle as relevant to the scenario
 A charity organisation with 15–20 staff about to upgrade from stand-alone
computers to an integrated workgroup computer network.

Include in the research a summary of relevant legislation, codes and standards that
may have an impact on the establishment of a computing network in this
environment.

Procedure

Students are required to:

1. Identify the key principles of networking.
2. For each principle of network, identify an example of how it can apply to the
scenario outlined.
3. Identify relevant legislations, codes and standards and provide a brief
summary of each.
4. For each identified legislation, code and standard, briefly state any impact it
may have on the implementation of a computer network for the scenario
outlined.

Task Specifications

You must provide:

 A written research paper outlining:

 o the principles of networking
o examples in the context of the scenario
o legislation that may affect the implementation of a computing network in
the identified environment.

Your assessor will be looking for:

 A clear summary of each of the principles of networking.
 An example for each principle of networking reflecting the scenario.
 Identified legislations, codes and standards with:
o a brief summary of each
o a statement of its likely impact on the implementation of the computing
network.
