Sanguine

In a nutshell...
Sanguine people are boisterous, bubbly, chatty, openly emotional, social extroverts.
Social
Sanguines find social interactions with faces both familiar and unfamiliar invigorating.
This is how they recharge, and time alone - while sometimes desirable - can bore them
quickly.

The more people they're surrounded by, the better they feel, and they're not picky
about who they get to know. They enjoy having many, many friends.

While sanguines enjoy being around other people, it's largely because they enjoy the
attention of others and feel good about the fact that they are not lonely.

They are talkers more than they are listeners.

They may move away from friends that they consider to be boring or dull.

They are bubbly, fun-loving, extroverted people-people who are always in the mood for
a good time. They love wild nights out.

They make friends quickly, and they'll cheerily talk to strangers. People of the
melancholic temperament might perceive a room of twenty strangers as frightening or
uncomfortable, while a sanguine might see them as opportunities to meet new friends.

They are not picky, and will usually like more things than they dislike. They tend to
enjoy things that are trendy, popular, and so on.

They enjoy social situations, and believe that everyone else would too. They're likely to
convince people to come along with things like 'come on, you'll enjoy it!' or 'you don't
know what you're missing!'

Being friends with a Sanguine is often as simple as knowing each other's face and
name.

They aren't particularly trustworthy... as they'll be too eager to spill secrets with others,
and their general flightiness can make them unreliable as they're likely to get easily
distracted by other things.

Expressive
They are talkative, and speak in a friendly, energetic, playful kind of way; they're often
charismatic, and when interacting with them, you can feel like you've known them all
your life.

They are very emotional, and their emotions can be extreme but fleeting. They are the
sorts who will be screaming "I HATE YOU I HATE YOU!!" one day, then mere hours
later, they'll be profusely apologising about it, then expecting everything to all be water
under the bridge after that.

They are quick to 'forgive and forget' - and expect others to do the same - because
they live in the moment rather than dwelling in the past.

They tend to have open senses of humour (rather than dry or subtle humour), and
laugh and smile often and clearly.

They may tease others in a 'playful' way, expecting them not to 'take it so seriously'.

They are very show-offy and have high self-esteem. They're prone to bragging, in a
'look how amazing I am!!' kind of way rather than 'I am better than you' (which is more
choleric).

They are extreme in their emotions, and may go through stages of melodramatic misery
and self-loathing as well.

They can be very easy-going, suggesting that more serious people 'mellow out' or 'take
a chill pill'.

Sanguines can be great motivators, as they'll enthusiastically encourage others towards

action, and they see things positively, optimistically, and would convince others to see
things that way too.

They are naturally physical with others, very 'touchy-feely', openly expressing their
affection through hugs and stroking and grabbing shoulders and things like that.

They could not be said to be neat and tidy. They live in the moment, which can lead to
poor planning or disorganisation, messiness.

Attention-Seeking
They love attention. They desire to be in the spotlight, and for people to compliment
and praise them. Everyone loves compliments, but sanguines will go out of their way to
get them.

They are often performers, party animals, drama queens.

They wish to fit in and be popular. Or, they'll seek to be Different in a way that will
make them remarkable.

The embarrassment of making a fool of themselves is outweighed by the pleasure of

putting on a show. They will go to extraordinary lengths to add the life they feel is
missing from any party, such as dancing on tables, eating food off the ground, etc.
Of course, the reason they'd do silly things isn't JUST to get attention. They do these
things because them find them amusing themselves.

They require constant entertainment, and will complain about being bored if they are
not sufficiently entertained, often at another person who's failing to entertain them.

They will show off their abilities to others in order to get praise.

They are dramatic, and will exaggerate to make things seem more extreme than they
are.

They have a tendency to be vain, and to care about how they look.

If nobody is paying attention to them, they will barge into a conversation or say
something in order to attract some attention. They are very uncomfortable being left
out.

Role
In our distant past, the sanguine members of the pack might have played a supportive,
encouraging, social role. They would have been the glue that kept the group together.

In modern society, you might see them as entertainers, singers, dancers, or perhaps
simply as the energetic people at parties. In fantasy, they might be Bards.

adjective

 1.bad-tempered or irritable.

Choleric Personality Type

Traits Explained
One of the most ancient theories of personality types that was used to
evaluate people was based on specific temperaments. Each temperament in
Greek and Arabic medicine was based on specific physical fluids in the body.
If one of those fluids was dominate over the others, then that was the
personality type you had.
If you had the choleric personality type, then it wasn’t because you were
diagnosed with cholera. It was because your yellow bile was the predominant
fluid in your body. That yellow bile would then determine your psychological
type and your temperament.

What Does It Mean to Have a Choleric

Personality?
People who have this personality type today tend to have higher levels of
testosterone present in their bodies. Although it is usually assigned to those
with a male gender, it does occur in women as well. Most people who have a
choleric personality are active, quick-tempered, strong-willed, and impatient.

A majority of people with this personality type are extroverts, but there are
certain introverts who have this personality type as well. In the Meyers-Briggs
personality test, the most common type of introvert who would have a choleric
personality is the INTJ.

People who have this personality type also tend to be independent. They
prefer to work on their own or on a team which allows them to work
independently from others. These people are confident in the decisions they
make, practical in their choices, and they don’t hesitate when key issues
require action.

They are also active people who enjoy the process of staying fit mentally and
physically. There is a tendency to be athletic, which can turn into a career for
some. They want to be in charge, be the captain of the team, and will be
aggressive in obtaining, then maintaining that role. They don’t panic under
pressure, but that can also make them seem like they are unsympathetic at
times.

Finding the Strengths of the Choleric

Personality Type
1. Optimism
People with this personality type tend to see the whole picture. They focus on
their goals to create positive outcomes whenever possible. Even when
something negative is lurking around, they tend to look at events in an
optimistic way through their goal-oriented approach.
2. Leadership
People who have the choleric personality type are born leaders. Their desire
to be active allows them to engage with others at a core level. They’re willing
to make changes when the situation calls for it, while still knowing when the
time is right to let others learn. They aren’t afraid to delegate tasks to others or
help teach specific skills to let others finds success.
3. Decisive
People with this personality tend to make quick choices. Most of their
decisions tend to be correct. On the off occasion when the wrong choice is
made, they move to make things right as quickly as possible. They are also
willing to correct others if they feel like something wrong is going on. Their
strong will can be uncomfortable for others at times, especially in social
situations, because they don’t care about the rules of engagement. If
something needs to be fixed, then they fix it.
4. Motivational
Choleric personalities set goals constantly. They encourage their teams to
work together, which is a skill that comes home with them as well. That makes
these people very reliable, showing up when they are needed to push others
toward a positive conclusion. Their independent nature allows them to
succeed when there are numerous friends or only a handful around at any
given time.
Finding the Weaknesses of the Choleric
Personality Type
1. Details
People with this personality type tend to focus on the big picture only. They
want to make fast decisions to maintain forward momentum toward that goal.
Because of that haste, they can sometimes overlook or analyze details that
are required for individual goal steps. That leads to mistakes, which can
impact the quality of the work they perform.
2. Manipulation
Choleric personalities are extremely good at manipulating others. They push
people who make mistakes in their eyes to the limit, often driving them away.
Then they create emotional circumstances which place the blame on the
person being pushed away. It is not uncommon for this personality type to
create false results, which make it look like goals were achieved, and then be
able to live in that fantasy world for quite some time.
3. Overbearing
People who have this personality type are constantly pushing others to be
their best. They leave no room for other people to breathe. Results are
expected, and they want them constantly. This creates an environment where
everyone is busy all of the time. They are intolerant of interruptions or
setbacks, preferring a “tough love” environment where the negative tends to
be the primary focus of feedback.
4. Narcissism
This personality type sees high levels of narcissism because the choleric
personality sees itself as the most important contributor to the team. They are
the ones with the ideas. They set the goals. They see the bigger picture. That
makes them better than the average person. If left unchecked, someone with
a choleric personality can put themselves on such a high pedestal that they
believe there is nothing that they could do that is wrong. They refuse to
apologize for anything, manipulate the emotions of others, and blame others
for any shortcomings that might be detected on their radar.
Lessons Learned from the Choleric
Personality Type
People who have the choleric personality type have a strong drive. Their
energy levels seem to be almost limitless. Although they are often quick to be
egotistical, which can lead to future problems, this personality type can also
be inspirational. Their confidence rubs off on others, creating mutual levels of
success that might not be available to other personality types.

It is important to recognize the aggression which occurs with this personality

type. People can become too aggressive with their personality, driving others
away despite the potential gains everyone could achieve. Even though they’ll
redefine success from an independent perspective, overly aggressive
personalities could find themselves isolated and alone.

By keeping the weaknesses in check, the strengths of this personality type

can shine through, helping the world to become a better place for everyone.

7 Melancholy Personality Traits

Melancholic personality or melancholy personality is one of the four fundamental types
of personality. According to a proto-psychological theory, the four fundamental
personality types are sanguine, choleric, melancholic and phlegmatic. Sanguine
personality is marked by sociable skills and pleasure seeking attitude, choleric
personality is marked by ambition and leadership, melancholic personality is marked by
analytical mind and calmness and phlegmatic personality is marked by peacefulness
and a relaxed approach to life.

The term melancholy here doesn’t mean pensiveness or sadness. It actually is a type of
personality that has many traits. Here are the common and some uncommon
melancholy personality traits.

1. A melancholic person has a calm, quiet and patient personality. Men and women
share the same melancholy personality traits. They would appear to be very soft, often
silent even in crowded places or situations where there is frantic activity. There is a
certain degree of contentment that is apparent in their demeanor. They are extremely
patient and they have a very harmless approach towards life.

2. A melancholic person is an ideal member of the society as it has been for centuries.
A melancholic man or woman loves societal order, hierarchy, family, friends and
relatives and is comfortable with the role that he or she has in the larger scheme of
things. Such a person will find comfort in the fact that there is social order, everyone has
a role and he or she has a set of certain rights and duties. He or she would be very
family-loving, will take care of the near and dear ones, will attend to all the duties that
have been allotted to them and cater to everything that is considered to be an
expectation. They would never get bored with the mundane humdrum of life as they find
peace in that very same approach towards life.

3. A melancholic person has a penchant for details. Such people are very good with
remembering things which could be the birthdays of friends, names of people they have
met or just an odd detail in a spreadsheet. They will focus on everything around them
that needs their attention and they would remember them. The power of recapitulation is
the most potent in melancholy personality among other fundamental personality types.

4. A melancholic person is perfectly at ease with routines. They don’t like surprises.
Anything that is sporadic or threatens to ruin their plans or schedules will make them
uncomfortable. They find peace when they know there is social order, certain laws,
hierarchies and that they have to do their bit. They don’t see families or friends, social
commitments or even routines as a lack of option, luxury of time or dearth of flexibility.
They don’t feel held back or chained down with the various relations and commitments
of societal lives. They would not like a life to be lead in any other way. These
melancholy personality traits make such people effective employees, great family
heads, dutiful spouses, helpful friends and very cordial members of the society.

5. Their penchant for order makes them honest taxpaying citizens and they are averse
to everything that challenges the social order which makes them quite righteous.
However, there are exceptions because people don’t have only one type of personality.
Almost every human being has a clubbed personality which can be broken down to
many fundamentals and thus it is not accurate to state that every person with a
melancholic personality is good and can never do anything that is bad.

6. People with melancholy personality traits will have a desire to be accurate. They like
clearly defined goals and a very well planned route to accomplish that. They like
straightforward plans that don’t have much conniving. They would stick to that plan, do
everything accurately as is expected of them and then they would want to succeed in a
desired timeframe. They are not in any haste to become billionaires and they don’t
indulge in the rat races of rivalry. However, they do have a penchant for commitments
which makes them very efficient. Melancholic people won’t keep missing deadlines or
be absent from work, fail commitments or be completely aloof from the things that
matter in personal, social and professional life.

7. There are many negative melancholy personality traits as well. They can more often
than not be dogmatic. They may be too stubborn and they may be completely closed to
new ideas. Since they stick to the rules and enjoy the traditional approaches which have
been in place for a while, hence orthodoxies, they may not be open to any major
changes. They may not change over time, either their own lives or the lives of their near
and dear ones. Such melancholy personality traits and their variants work against the
best interest of the melancholic people and the world.

THE PERFORMER | I-C (Sanguine-Melancholy)

The Sanguine-Melancholy is driven by two temperament needs. The primary need is to be accepted socially.

moment. The Sanguine-Melancholy is a frequently found pattern.
The Sanguine-Melancholy needs to be with people most of the time, but some of the time they need to be
alone. When alone they will likely think, review, plan, and be creative. They need information, time to think,
and a plan; they function best, and more effectively, when they have a detailed plan. Once they have a plan,
however, they may not be consistent or follow through because of the fear of failure. Once the fear of failure is
overcome, there is not much they cannot do as well, if not better than, anyone else.
The Sanguine-Melancholy has a very active, vivid imagination causing them to be creative in many areas like
music, the performing arts, writing, decoration, problem solving, etc. They tend to be very image conscious
and actively seek recognition for their achievements. The Sanguine-Melancholy has a deep need to know that
they will be accepted by others. They often struggle with questions like, “Why did I do that?”, “Why didn’t I
do something else?”, “Did I say that right?”
They are usually well organized. Being organized does not necessarily mean that everything is neatly in place.
Being organized can also mean that you know where everything is located—if you know what’s in the piles,
then you’re organized!
Information about their job is very important to them, so they may ask many questions before accepting a task.
They tend to be cautious because they have a deep need to make a favorable impression. They like status and
quality things.
They often have difficulty going to sleep because they are thinking too much; reviewing, planning, fretting, or
creating. The Sanguine-Melancholy’s emotions may fluctuate, especially if they are embarrassed or they have
been, or may be, rejected. They can do things to an extreme.
The Sanguine-Melancholy tends to warm up slowly to new people because they are unsure of how they are
being received. Once they feel safe or accepted, they become more friendly.
The Sanguine-Melancholy is a frequently found combination. See the book Born With A Creative
Temperament, The Sanguine-Melancholy, by John T. Cocoris on this website.

THE HIGH "S" | (Phlegmatic) BLENDS

THE INSPECTOR | S-D (Phlegmatic-Choleric)
The Phlegmatic-Choleric combination is driven by two temperament needs. The primary temperament need is
to be accommodating. The secondary need is to get results. Either need may dominate their behavior
depending on the situation.
When the Phlegmatic and the Choleric natural tendencies are combined, it produces an accommodating, result-
oriented person who is unyielding in their routine, and very determined. The Phlegmatic-Choleric naturally
concentrates (like an inspector) on one thing at a time with unbending determination.
The Phlegmatic-Choleric prefers to be with family or a few close friends most of the time. They have an
anchored determination to follow their routine or complete a task.
They are accommodating, industrious, and independent (loners). The Phlegmatic-Choleric will have a firm,
stoic expression (flat affect) and will rarely smile. They are calm, steady, and persevering. They can be very
blunt, stubborn, and sarcastic. They rarely show emotion or affection.
The Phlegmatic-Choleric wants to operate by themselves and set their own pace. Once their mind is made up
they will resist any other method of approach. They seek challenging assignments without close supervision.
The Phlegmatic-Choleric prefers work of a routine nature rather than involvement with people.
This focused individual brings a deceptively intense approach to the task. Being low-key outwardly, their
involvement in a task is not easily observed. They are successful because of their commitment to completing a
task. After starting a project, they are tenacious and will fight for their objectives. The Phlegmatic-Choleric is
very independent, questioning, and thorough in their approach and will follow through to see the task
