Technology is indeed evolving.

We cannot deny the fact that we people can't live

without the presence of Social Media nowadays. .

People are using social media to kill boredom and communicate with other
people. However, the massive effects of social media took a big role in our everyday
lives. We mostly using different applications not only in one day, not only in whole day,
but almost forever. We never stopped. We kept our mobile phones attached to us. It is
true that Social Media is used for entertainment, but most or some of the people are
becoming toxic to the society. As the time goes by the usage of social media are slowly
eating the most of humanity, and we didn't know how to stop.

Our generation doesn’t use technology for much more than social media, which
in many ways is the same as misusing technology. The fact that almost everyone in the
community is connected to at least one social media platform, the youth and teenagers
is specially one of the most dominant users of social media. We have become so
immune to being able to contact someone with just one tap of a screen.

By the 1980s, home computers were becoming more common and social media
was becoming more sophisticated. Internet relay chats, or IRCs, were first used in 1988
and continued to be popular well into the 1990’s.

The first recognizable social media site, Six Degrees, was created in
1997. It enabled users to upload a profile and make friends with other users. In 1999,
the first blogging sites became popular, creating a social media sensation that’s still
popular today.

After the invention of blogging, social media began to

explode in popularity. Sites like MySpace and LinkedIn gained prominence in the early
2000s, and sites like Photobucket and Flickr facilitated online photo sharing. YouTube
came out in 2005, creating an entirely new way for people to communicate and share
with each other across great distances.

By 2006, Facebook and Twitter both became available to

users throughout the world. These sites remain some of the most popular social
networks on the Internet. Other sites like Tumblr, Spotify, Foursquare and Pinterest
began popping up to fill specific social networking niches.

Today, there is a tremendous variety of social

networking sites, and many of them can be linked to allow cross-posting. This creates
an environment where users can reach the maximum number of people without
sacrificing the intimacy of person-to-person communication. We can only speculate
about what the future of social networking may look in the next decade or even 100
years from now, but it seems clear that it will exist in some form for as long as humans
are alive.
Social media refers to a number of web-based applications through which users
interact with one another. Social media applications encourage users to share their
experiences, opinions, knowledge, and sometimes their locations. Social media sites let
those who use them create personal profiles, while connecting with the other users of
the sites. This modern invention of the web has laid roots among netizens and in recent
years has experienced an incredible amazing increase of users among social networks.
Today, for many, it is a part of everyday life to inform about places you visit, thoughts or
acts through a simple click on the computer.

Despite having unique advantages, social media considered to be one of the

most harmful elements of society. Placing very valuable information without any
restriction is precisely the problem, because information is used by some delinquent,
who are also already involved in these new technologies.

The high use of social media has increased the number of cybercrimes
performed, which leads to many things such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem
and suicidal thoughts. Too much trust on social media has made people share their
personal details, resulting the criminals violating their privacy in social media platforms.
When potentially offensive content is posted online, the amount of feedback can be
excessive and is often brutal. Use of social networks may expose individuals to other
forms of harassment or even inappropriate contact. This can be especially true for teens
and younger children and they could be exposed to pornography or other inappropriate
content. The oversharing happening on social media makes children a target for
predators and hackers. Security attacks such as hacking, identity theft, and viruses ,
and exposure to phishing scams are common.

Not everything published in social media is true. It enables the spread of false
rumors and unreliable information. Fake news is spread with the use of it, which poisons
the mind of citizens. The difference between what a person tries to seem in the social
media posts and what he\she is in the reality is sometimes huge. Because social media
use makes it easy to disguise one’s personality. Also, scammers are everywhere in
social media. They can trick other users into thinking that this content from different
sites are worth seeing and trick them to visit pages that might set free virus or force
them to make a payment.

Uncontrolled social media usage among the teens can lead to Internet addiction,
which is baleful. He/she can sit up for hours without any real life interaction which will be
harmful not only in their eyes but also in their mental health. Extensive online engagement is
correlated with personality and brain disorders like poor social skills, narcissistic tendencies, a
need of instant gratification, and addictive behaviors. It may also affect their school
performance and even personal development. Some youth are easily influenced so they may
feel need to change their physical appearance by comparing themselves to the person they see
in social media. And when people can be on it way too much, it can become a distraction. The
lack of ability to pay attention. Social media is a huge distractions in school and throughout the
school day. Facebook is a prime example. Because students are messing around their phones
rather than paying attention, which has led to examination failures due to lack of learning.
Also, it given the rise to the excessive use of abbreviations and slangs
everywhere, not only on social media but also in real life conversations .Just to make
one's talk look "cool", people make up their abbreviations and tend to forget that they
are neglecting the beauty of language when they are online busy with the social media.
Abbreviations that are common in social media are frowned upon in formal writing.
Social media sites like Twitter that impose 140 character limit force users to condensed
their thoughts. Twitter affects behavior because the network is open to all.

Nowadays, people use more new modern social media to interact with friends
instead of traditional face-to-face communication. When people are become more
dependent on social media communication, they are gradually losing the competence to
interact face-to-face. It leads to people’s absence of representing their verbal
expressions and we cannot sense the emotion from the other person. It makes us
wonder if they actually mean what they say. Without practicing enough face-to-face
communication ,people are inclined to choose wrong words or long sentences
conveying their opinions and thoughts. The access that people have on the internet and
social media specifically has become too easy. It has made the language lazy and thus
resulting people uninterested in meeting others in person, which eliminates any chance
of deep and meaningful conversations.

Whether or not people want to accept it, social media has several negative
impacts on our daily lives. We cannot deny the fact that social platform is very helpful
providing news, gossips and to closely interacted to family and friends, but we cannot
afford it to become the focal point of our lives. The rise of social media has not only
given rise to good things but also created a damaging ones.
