Introduction

Water Contamination

a. A form of environmental degradation occurs when pollutants are directly or indirectly

discharged into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds.

Thesis Statement

b. Although water contamination causes destruction on marine life, it can also cause severe

risk to public health because it contains bacteria, viruses, ad parasites such as escherichia coli,

genus mycobacterium, winter vomiting bug or norovirus, and hepatitis A virus.

II. Destruction of Marine Life

a. The waste we produce on lands such as plastic bags and pesticides, through deliberate

dumping on from run-off through drains and rivers eventually reach the oceans. (Michel Gunther

WWF 2016)

b. Due to oil spills from the ship who are sometimes overfishing has a huge impact on

marine environments and the solid garbage that is not disposed of correctly can reach the sea.

(Michel Gunther WWF, 2016)

c. Toxic chemicals can also reach the sea from land-based activities, in water, soil and air as

well as accidental leaks or fires in products. Wildlife can be harmed. (Michel Gunther WWF,

2016)

d.

III. Water Contamination to Public Health

a. People who consume fruit or vegetables that were exposed to contaminated water are at

risk of developing a foodborne illness. (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2010)
b. Diseases such as hepatitis and dysentery because of water contamination, long term

effects such as certain types of cancer may also result from exposures to polluted water. (The

Groundwater Foundation, 2016)

IV. Save Water From Being Contaminated

a. Water quality is important in ensuring post-harvest quality by decreasing decay. It is

important to ensure safety. (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2016)

b. The government puts some control in place that the environmental impacts from dumping

waste on the sea are minimized. (Commonwealth of Australia, 1981)

c. Water pollution that affects local residents can be politically disastrous, but

governments and businesses often don't have nearly as much incentive to keep the water

clean at the points where rivers flow out of their jurisdictions

Conclusion:

Water contamination can really make a devastating effect on our marine environment and

specially to us, humans. There are ways to stop the water from being contaminated, however,

certain human activities can affect water quality if it is not monitored and managed correctly, we

have to learn how to take care of our environment responsibly.
