INDUSTRIAL TRAINING PROGRAMME

The Industrial Training Programme Guidelines


1.0 OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the industrial training are :

a. to expose students to the various aspects of industrial practices and ethics.


b. to gain knowledge in working environment
c. to apply the training knowledge for the preparation of their final year project.

2.0 DURATION

The minimum duration of the training is twelve (12) weeks.

3.0 ELIGIBILITY
The minimum credit hours for the students to undergo the industrial training is 45 and must have
taken the following pre-requisite subjects:

 CMPD244 – Programming 2
 CMPD314 – Database System

The subject code for industrial training is CGND324.

4.0 PLACEMENT

The student is required to apply for placement using the sample application letter provided in
the guidelines.

The student is encouraged to apply for the industrial training placement on his/her own. The place
chosen should give some exposure on the field of his/her major. Checking on the company’s
profiles and activities are highly recommended. The company’s profiles and activities can be
obtained from the company’s web page.
The following documents should be included with the application for Industrial training:

1. Application letter
2. Curriculum Vitae / Resume
3. Verification Letter and Appendix 1 (Industrial Training Reply form)

Please refer to the Appendix for an application letter and curriculum vitae (CV) samples.
Scholarship holders are required to consult with their sponsor for approved industrial training
placement.

5.0 REQUIREMENTS

a) The student is required to register the industrial training programme as a normal subject
will be taken in the special semester/semester 3 on the pre-registration day(s) scheduled.
(Note : each registered student will be assigned an internal visiting lecturer)

b) The student is required to print out the Verification Letter and Appendix 1 (Industrial
Training Reply form) in Industrial Training System (ITS). Please refer to the student
portal.

c) The student is required to inform DCS Industrial Training Coordinator upon receiving an
accepted offering letter from the company applied by submitting Appendix 1 & Offer
Letter from the company not later than one week after the industrial training start.

d) Please fill up the FINAL PLACEMENT and REPORT DUTY in the ITS during the period given
as follows:
i. FINAL PLACEMENT – within 2 weeks before the industrial training start
ii. REPORT DUTY – within 2 weeks after the industrial training start
Report duty form is required to be filled up and attached while fill up REPORT DUTY in
ITS.

e) During the training, the student’s conduct must be in accordance with the organization
working schemes, rules and regulations. The organization will appoint a host supervisor
to monitor the student.

f) DCS Industrial Training Coordinator will assign visiting lecturer to visit the student. The
student is required to fill up online Form C- Student’s Completion Report after the
industrial training end.

g) The student is required to have a logbook and all the training activities should be recorded
either on daily or weekly basis. The student is also required to write a complete industrial
training report and should be submitted together with the certified logbook to the
assigned visiting lecturer not later than two (2) weeks after the training completed or a
date determined by the college. Please refer to Industrial Training Programme –
Student’s Report Guidelines in writing the industrial training report.

6.0 EVALUATION

The evaluation schemes are as follows:

7.0 METHOD OF EVALUATION

7.1 Assessment report by the visiting lecturer


The assigned visiting lecturer is responsible to assess the student’s performance during his/her
visit to the host organization using Form A – Visiting Lecturer’s Report in the Appendix.

7.2 Assessment report by the host supervisor


The host supervisor is responsible to assess the student’s performance using Form B – Host
Supervisor’s Report in the Appendix.

7.3 Assessment of the logbook and industrial training report prepared by the student.
The assigned visiting lecturer is responsible to assess the student’s performance based on the
logbook and the industrial training full report submitted.

7.4 Assessment of the Student’s Presentation.


The student’s presentation will be held during the visiting lecturer’s visit. The presentation will be
accessed by the visiting lecturer, host supervisor and/or other representatives from the company.
Assessment of the student’s presentation will be mainly based on the contents, style of the
presentation and also the ability of answering questions.

8.0 RESULT

Marks obtained from all four evaluation methods above will be accumulated to produce a final
mark for determining the Industrial Training grade. The minimum passing percentage is 50%.

FAIL grade may be given on the following cases:


a. Failure to submit the industrial training report by the given deadline
b. Failure to conduct a presentation during lecturer’s visit
c. Students who receive complaints from company with regards to those who do
not send proper decline letter.

The new passing grade based on the marks obtained are as follows:

9.0 TERM & CONDITIONS

9.1 REQUEST FOR A CHANGE OF TRAINING COMPANY

Throughout the period of industrial training, students are not permitted to request for a
change of training company as designated by the university, especially when the student has
already reported for duty at the training company by mutual agreement (between the student
and the university). This needs to be adhered to in order to protect the university’s reputation,
as well as the student’s.

9.2 APPLICATION FOR LEAVE

Approval of personal leave or medical leave during industrial training is the prerogative of the
company. Students are not encouraged to apply for leave unless there is a crucial need for it.
Frequent or long durations of leave-taking may affect student’s performance in the
supervisor’s report.

9.3 INSURANCE

Every student who undergoes the industrial training is covered by the university insurance
scheme. By employer’s request, students may request for issuance of insurance letter by the
university. In such cases, put in your request through the industrial training coordinator.
