Motor direction of rotation

The motor direction of rotation is marked on the housing by an arrow. If it rotates in
reverse direction, the coupling will not work, and the machine will not cut. To solve this
problem, swap two phases of the terminal box.
NOTE: When moving the machine to a different workplace, take into account the
motor direction of rotation.

Applicable regulations
It complies with the European directive 98 / 37 / CE
TRANSPORTATION
The machine is provided with a lifting lug for hoisting with cranes or similar devises. It
has two wheels for normal carrying, pulling from the handle.

WARNING:
Lifting the machine from a point different than the lifting lug, or
using inappropriate slings, can cause the sudden fall of the
machine with severe hazard for people or goods on its way.

SAFETY DEVISES
Shear blade guard
The shear blade guard (red) must be put down during cutting operations. Otherwise, the
operating lever will prevent the cutting lever and the pedal linked to the lever from
moving.
Electrically driven shear machines C 32 L - C
42 L
For machine operation, move the lever
towards the arrow direction. If the shear
blade guard is up, this movement will
not be possible.
Operation of the lever will only be
possible if the shear blade guard is put
down.

Clutch
The clutch prevents the machine from cutting in a continuous fashion. The operator
must be conscious of each cut. This implies that once the cutting lever or the pedal has
been actuated, only one cut will be performed

Voltage
Prior to connecting the shear machine to the power grid, check that grid voltage and
frequency match the machine requirements (as a general rule 230 / 400 V - 50 Hz) and,
most important, that an EARTH CONNECTION, a DIFFERENTIAL CURRENT
TYPE AND OVERLOAD CIRCUIT BREAKER are provided.
When the power goes out, the machine switches off, it being required switching the
machine on again when the power comes back. This way, out of control machine
starting is avoided when the power comes back.

Other considerations
In view of the nature of the material to be cut, mainly corrugated steel bars, ALBA S.A.
recommends using adequate personal protective equipment (gloves, safety footwear,
leather aprons, etc.)

WARNING
Working without adequate protective equipment may cause
erosion on certain exposed body areas, as well as clothes
damage.

APPLICATIONS
The shear machine is used mainly in the building sector.
It is used for cutting steel of different shapes
 Corrugated steel bars
 Solid round bars
 Solid square bars
 Rectangular bars
For other applications, please, CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER.
Electrically driven shear machines C 32 L - C
42 L
COMMISSIONING
Prior to connecting the machine to the power grid, the directives, rules or special
applicable current regulations in force in each country must be complied with.
The machines are designed for their connection to an EARTHED three phase, R-S-T-
power grid
Check that grid voltage coincides with machine voltage; if voltages should not coincide,
change the machine internal connections.
Regarding machine set up, no special conditions are required, other than placing it on a
well levelled surface to prevent the machine from moving due to the small vibration
generated during the cutting operation, and a correct lubrication.

DANGER:
The lack of differential current type circuit breaker or earthing,
can cause and even fatal injuries. On the other hand, incorrect
boltages or frequencies can severely damage the motor.

Special attention shall be paid to the power supply

- Firstly, check that the electrical installation for machine power supply, is
provided with a differential current type and overload circuit breaker, as well as
earth connection.
- Also, check that supply voltage and frequency are adequate (apart from special
orders, our machines operate on 400 V - 50 Hz).

Our machines are shipped filled with oil.

C 32 L C 42 L
Net oil capacity 1,25 L 2,2 L
Recommended oil type Shell Omala Oil 320
The oil used is a mineral oil with EP type additives, and a viscosity of 320 cSt at 40ºC.
For other conditions, please ask the manufacturer for advise. This type of oil has a
freezing point of around –15º C. In cases when it is possible that the machine might be
exposed to temperatures below –10º C, synthetic hydrocarbon fluids such as Shell
Omala HD 320 are recomended due to their freezing point of approximately –45º C.

OPERATION
Place the bar to be cut into the bar holder, making sure that bar dimensions and material
comply with the requirements set forth in par. 1.5.1. Cutting capacity, further detailed
on the machine identification nameplate. COMPLYING WITH MAXIMUM CUTTING
CAPACITIES IS VERY IMPORTANT.
A cut can be operated in two different ways:
Pushing the pedal
Handling the lever

42 L
MAINTENANCE
The shear machine must be inspected periodically, specially, prior to starting up.
An overall look can detect defects, dents, etc. that might cause malfunctions during the
operation. Should it be required, broken parts must be replaced with new native parts.
After having removed one part, never work without the replacement.

The clutching system might go misadjusted by the use. Should this be the case, the
keyway arm might excessively hit against the damper top. It can be adjusted by
tightening 1/4 of a turn the two safety nuts.

NOTE: This operation must be done with the motor standstill.

The cutting tools are provided with 8 cutting edges. Their position must be changed as
soon as notches are detected or cutting maximum diameter bars becomes difficult.
Lubrication of all points is automatically carried out on starting.
Oil must be changed after the first 250 hours of operation. The emptying operation is
made removing the plug under the casing. Oil filling is made through a plug situated on
the top of the machine. Hereafter, a periodical inspection of the oil level through the
glass, before starting the machine, will be enough. The oil level must be at the middle of
said oil glass. Oil must be replenished if below minimum level.
After 2000 effective working hours, a full oil change is recommended.

STORAGE
Although the machine can be operated in the open, operation sheltered from the rain and
moisture is recommended.
Cleaning and keeping it sheltered after the working day is necessary to prolong the life-
span of the shear machine.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
If machine performance or motor operation is impaired, check:
 Power supply voltage. 10% variation is acceptable.
 Motor direction of rotation. For changing it, only swap two phases of MAINS
connector.
 Check shear blade cutting edges, changing their position in case of wear or
damage.
 The machine is adjusted before shipment.
Nevertheless, it might happen that the blade does not show
Safety nuts
up when actuating the cutting lever or the pedal. This
malfunction might be due to a mismatched clutch
regulating screw. To readjust it, loosen the locknut, give
the regulating screw half a turn in counter clockwise
direction. Pull the lever. Keep on operating this way until
the blade shows up when pulling the lever. Then tighten
the locknut.

NOT ALLOWED WORKING PRACTICES

Never use the shear machine :
 Without a differential current type circuit breaker in the electrical system.
 With the shear blade guard not on.

etc.,).
 For cutting materials other than the materials specified.
 In places with poor lighting.
 In places with explosion hazard.
 In the open with bad weather conditions.
 With the machine connected to a power supply without earth connection.
