Introduction

In this virtual lab we are going to analyze how light was used in the making of

the atom and how spectra was predicted by the different models (Billiard Ball,

Plum Pudding, Classical Solar System, Bohr, deBroglie, and Schrödinger) of

the hydrogen atom. Also to distinguish the accuracy between the different

models and also the differences each have on their behavior.

Objective

The Objective of this lab report is to comprehend and analyze the different
models of the Atom that we have seen in the Java download, introduced by
these important scientists like John Dalton, J.J Thompson, Ernest Rutherford,
Niel Bohr, Louis deBroglie, and Erwin Schrodinger.
Hypothesis

Our hypothesis about this Lab Report, is that depending on the distinct models
of the atom developed by their creators. They will have certain characteristics
that others didn’t have because when the time passed more knowledge was
gained, and they didn’t know how exactly the behavior of the electrons and
nucleus.
Conclusion

In conclusion to the lab we saw the theory of Bohr the changes of colors and we
saw with the color of the visible spectrum that light changed the colors if we
changed it in the different ways and when we saw the diagram of the
experiment.is that because Dalton thought atoms were the smallest particles of
matter, he envisioned them as solid, hard spheres, like billiard pool balls, so he
uses wooden balls to mode them. Three of his model atoms are pictured in the
below. The holes in balls Dalton added these so the model compounds. What
happen with Bohr model the Bohr model of hydrogen atom explains the
connection between the quantization of photons and quantized emission from
atoms when electron moves from higher-energy orbit to be more stable one is
emitted form of a photon.
Analysis & data

At the begging of 1900s scientist had the challenge of describing what makes
up an atom. Light was the main source to investigate the make-up of the atom.
Various models were developing, some of the models develop are:

 John Daltons Ballard ball model

 J.J Thompsons Plum pudding model
 Ernest Rutherford’s Classical Solar system model
 Neil Bohr shell model
 Louis deBroglie Electron wave model
 Erwin Schrodinger’s Quantum Mechanical Model
Analysis & Questions

1. white light is a combination of all the color in the light spectrum therefore
it shows the different colors of the light photons.
2. No it doesn’t not have protons, electrons or neutrons because it was
developed before the discovery of subatomic particles
3. When a photon hit the billiard model it doesn’t absorb it or emit it, nothing
happens, the spectrometer shows no reaction.
4. The Plum pudding model show a proton and electron.
5. In certain position photon get either absorbed or emitted, the
spectrometer displays that only UV light is emitted
6. An electron circle around a proton until they collided and it exploded so it
didn’t affect the photons. The spectrometer shows no emission.
7. Because protons and electron have opposite charges and because of
“the law of attraction” they attract each other therefore they collide.
8. In Bohr’s model a nucleus made up of protons and neutrons has an
electron revolving around it in energy levels called orbits.it has a similar
appearance to the solar system hence the name.
9. Photons gets either emitted or absorbed by the electron in the orbits and
every time emission or absorption happens it changes orbit has it gains
energy. The spectrometer shows that for every photon absorb a different
photon is emitted it shows, UV, Visible spectrum and IR but mostly UV.
10. The colors depend on the emission and absorbs of energy because color
will not appear if photons are not emitted or absorbed.
11. In Bohr’s model the energy level changes when a photon is absorbed or
emitted.
12. The energy level changes every time a photon is absorbed or emitted but
only Uv photons get absorbed
13. Bohr´s electron behaves as a particle while DE Broglie’s behaves as a
wave.
14. The electron changes energy levels when it absorbs or emits photons.
The spectrometer mostly shows emitted energy from uv
15. Schrödinger’s energy level diagram has additional sublevels across the
levels.
