AC 3.1 Examine how attitudes are formed (please provide three examples).

Example 1 attitude:

Utilitarian

How the above may be formed?

A Utilitarian attitude is formed by giving a positive perception to things that

give us gains and a negative perception to things that give us loss.
Examples: "I dont eat fast food because its unhealthy"
Example 2 attitude:

Ego-Defensive

How the above may be formed?

An Ego-Defensive attitude is formed when we try to stop anything from

damaging our ego. We will dissociate from any people, place or brand that
threatens our ego.
Examples: "People like dont shop at stores like that"

Example 3 attitude:

Value-Expressive

How the above may be formed?

A Value-Expressive attitude is formed when you reflect on youre place in

society, you only value yourself based on your social set.

Examples: "My peers eat at this restaurant therefore I like this restaurant"

AC 3.2 Describe THREE ways in which attitudes may be CHALLENGED.

Challenge attitude 1:

You can challenge an attitude by calling someone out if theyre attitude is

negative or is effecting someone in a negetive way, then explain to that
person how what they're doing is bad, and ask them to stop.
 Challenge attitude 2:

Aanother way to challenge an attitude is to debate the person on why there

attitude is wrong and try to convince to change there ways. This person
who you are debating may not believe there attitude is wrong and so it it
your job to change there mind.

Challenge attitude 3:

Another way you can challenge someones attitude is by is by pointing out

the good and bad parts of there attitude and suggesting that they try to
fucus mainly on the positive aspects and try to avoid the negative.

Racial Prejudice may manifest itself as you could be taught to view people
from different ethnicities at a young age.

Gender Predudice may start after someone heres a stereotype about the
opposite gender and agrees with it.

Ageism Prejudice

Ageism Prejudice may occur after someone has a negative experience with
someone of a different age demographic and then goes on to view
everyone that age as being the same.
AC 4.2 Describe positive and negative consequences of THREE types of prejudice and discrimination.

Prejudice/discrimination 1:

A employer may be more likely to hire someone based on there gender, the
person who is hiring could possibly be biased towards the employment of a
certain gender.

Positive consequences:

The gender that is favoured gets hired.

Negative consequences:

The employment system is one-sided and the person whos gender is not
favoured could be more qualified for the job, but overlooked.
Prejudice/discrimination 2:

A certain race may start a group to represent there races views.

Positive consequences:

It gives possibly marganilized groups of people a voice in society.

Negative consequences:

It is only representing one group of people and doesnt a society as a whole.

Prejudice/discrimination 3:

Someone might think a prejudice thought about someone from another

race.
Positive consequences:

If they do not act on this thought then they will leave the person alone.

Negative consequences:

They could act on this thought and negatively effect the person

AC 4.3 Describe how discrimination can lead to disadvantage.

Discrimination may lead to disadvantage by:

Discrimination in todays society can easily lead to a disadvantage because if

a society discriminates against other then they cannot be united and when
a society is diveded they can easily fall apart. Even smaller scale examples
of discrimination can lead to disadvantages, like in a workplace. Costumers
 may not want to shop at a place where the workers discriminate amongst
themselves or even towards other costumers.
