Name - Keeden Brown Title of Project - LGBT Athlete Discrimination Project Start Date –

2nd Semester, 2020 Project Completion Date - May 2020

1. In 40 words or more describe who your project benefited and how. In other words, what
was the impact of your project?

My project benefited LGBT athletes who have experienced multiple adversities. This project
benefits its audience, those who are unaware of real LGBT issues. The impact of my project was
to inform the general public but more specifically high school students and teachers.

2. In at least 40 words explain how the project challenged you. How was this a stretch for
you?

My initial project of hosting a Drag Show was incredibly challenging; finding a venue was hard
in itself, but overall, trying to find my general idea for my project was challenging because I
wanted to do something that no one else has ever done before. I wanted it to be unique.

3. List and then describe 5-8 fundamental ideas/concepts/skills of your project, which you
learned/enhanced during your project.

Time Management: I managed my time effectively and efficiently. I did exactly what I was
supposed to do when it needed to be done.
Organization: I keep things organized, used a To-Do list, and kept in contact with all the
necessary individuals.
Advocacy: By taking an issue and explaining it to a group of people so that we can inspire
change is something I have greatly approved upon with this project.
Creativity: Making a project that is relatively unique was always my goal. My initial project idea
was going to be the first-ever Drag Show in the history of Senior projects.
Dedication: I have always remained dedicated to my senior project. Even though it is not the
project I wanted, I made the best out of a bad situation.

4. List and describe 4-8 problems/obstacles/issues you encountered in your project, and
briefly describe how you solved each.

Venue: It was incredibly challenging to find a free venue that would not charge me to have my
event. I eventually found a free venue with The LGBT Center of Hampton Roads.
Performers: When I was still having the Drag Show, I had a hard time finding performers
because I did not know any drag queens personally. Thankfully, Ms. V connected me to FC
alumni that connected me to several drag queens who were more than willing to perform for my
project.
Advertising: At first advertising was hard until my senior project flyer got approved and I was
able to finally share it around my school for everyone to see.

5. List materials used.

•Google Slides
•Weebly
•Google Docs

6. List all people who helped you with the project and briefly describe the help given.

Mrs. Hill: for being my senior project consultant

Ms. V: for helping me and guiding through senior project
Sylvia Sterling: am LSA alumni that helped me contact performers for my original project
Mrs. Godfrey for approving my flyers and allowing me to hang them in the school

7. How does your completed project compare to the picture you had in mind when you
started the project? Explain the reason behind any changes to your proposal.

My completed project and my original idea are drastically different. Because of the virus
quarantine, I had to create an entirely new project as it is required for us to have a completed
project to graduate from the academy. Either way, I am still proud of what I was able to
accomplish given the circumstances.

8. If given the opportunity, explain what you would have done differently now that you
speak from experience?

If I could do anything differently, I would’ve planned my project to happen sooner. I felt like if I
had planned my project before the end of March, that I could have finished it before the virus
outbreak. If I could go back I time, I would have acted sooner and put a tighter schedule on
myself to get things done.

9. Beyond the project itself, what did you learn about yourself?

I learned that I can adapt under pressure and that no matter what, I can always turn a situation
around. I learned that I don’t let anything stop me once I get going. I put in 110% effort into
whatever I do until I am satisfied.
10. What grade would you give yourself on the project? Justify the evaluation of your
grade in at least 25 words.

Grade: 95
Justification: I believe that I deserve this grade because I did the absolute best that I could given
the current circumstances. I made connections, put in the work, stressed over, and completed a
Senior Project. I found an issue I was genuinely passionate about and advocated for it. I deserve
this grade because I work hard and I go above and beyond.
