Name of Project: Design Analysis of a Gerotor Oil Pump with Hydrodynamic


Effect through Matlab Simulink

Objective: To design a Gerotor Oil Pump by miximizing the flow rate and minimize
the flow ripple.

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of MATLAB.

Brief Activities of Project: This research oriented project covers the following
activities:
1. Understanding the concepts and design principle of Gerotor Oil Pump
2. Propose a new profile of lobes of pump rotors for improve the efficience of
the pump
3. Simulate and analysis the modified system of the pump by Matlab and CFD
4. Validate the results with existing experimental results

Expected Outcome: Optimal Design of a Gerotor Oil Pump for lubricating system

Title of Optimization of Helical compression spring using Multi


Project Objective Optimization Techniques
Objectives 1.To combine the knowledge of design of helical compression
spring and evolutionary Optimization Algorithms to design an
optimized helical compression spring
2.To optimize actual dimensions and parameters of a real spring
3.To minimize the weight of helical compression spring
4.At the same time optimize its reliability

Prerequisites 1. Basic knowledge of Design of Machine Elements


2. Basic Knowledge of Matlab Programming / Similar

3.Basic Knowledge of various Optimization Techniques
Phases / Steps 1.Learning of some new and advance optimization techniques
/ Activities for 2.Learning of software- Matlab and programming in it

making different mathematical functions for different objective
functions and different constraints applied on the actual spring by

technique

technique, using that code as a tool for the solution of the
problem to find the optimized result and hence an optimized
helical compression spring

Expected 1. To get an optimized helical compression spring which will be

an optimized spring to reduce the cost of helical compression
spring being used in different applications such as in suspension
system of an automobile

Project 2:

Title of A Hybrid Genetic and Cuckoo Search Algorithm for Job


Project Scheduling
Objectives 1. To Minimize the make span time (Job scheduling is a NP –hard
problem) 2. To overcome the local optima problem using Cuckoo
search algorithm.
Prerequisites 1. Basic knowledge of Production Scheduling
2. Basic Knowledge of Matlab Programming / Similar

3. Basic Knowledge of various Optimization Techniques

Phases / Steps 1. Understanding some new and advance optimization techniques


/ Activities for (algorithms, assumptions and constraints)
Implementati 2. Learning of software- Matlab and programming in it
on of Project 3. Formulation of the efficient mathematical algorithm
4. After formulation of the problem in mathematical form, writing
a code for a suitable multi objective optimization technique.
5. Using that code, find solution of the problem and get optimized
result to reduce make span time.

Expected 1. A hybrid algorithm in which trapping of local optima problem


Outcome is solved.
2. Make span time reduced.
3. If successful we will implement the above formulation on a
real time industrial data to reduce make span time.

Project 3:

Title of Multi-objective Optimization of Planetary Gear Train.


Project
Objectives 1. To design and optimize multi-stage planetary gear train
used in various gear train applications.
2. To minimize the surface fatigue life factor of gears and
volume of gearbox.
3. To study the trade-off between the multiple objectives
used.
Prerequisites 1. Students of Computer Science and Engineering will be
preferred.
2. Basic knowledge of Evolutionary Multi-Optimization
techniques.
3. Basic Knowledge of MATLAB Programming.
Phases / Steps 1. Learning of some new and advance meta-heuristic
/ Activities for evolutionary optimization techniques.
Implementati 2. To learn how to code in MATLAB software.
on of Project 3. Formulation of Objective functions and design constraints
to be imposed on it.
4. Writing of suitable codes for optimization using suitable
optimization algorithm.
5. Using the codes developed, finding of optimal results and
performing graphical analysis.
Expected 1. To develop an optimal design of planetary gear
Outcome train/gearbox.
2. To optimize different objective function simultaneously
satisfying various design constraints.
3. Determining the trade-off between various objective
functions.
4. If successful the industries can use this procedure of
obtaining an optimized gearbox employing more practical
objective functions and design constraints.
Note: Students of Computer Science Engineering / Information Technology
will be more suitable and preferred for this Project 3.

Title:Tool path generation in incremental forming for automotive sheet metal
components
Prerequisites:Mechanics, Metal Forming, CAD/CAM and MATLAB Programming
Outline: The objective of this project is to generate optimized tool paths in
incremental sheet metal forming process for automotive components to increase
efficiency in terms of production time, part accuracy and surface roughness using the
theory of mechanics, metal forming, CAD/CAM and numerical methods. The
theoretical results will be validated by experimental case study.
Possible Outcome: Results obtained from this project may lead toachieve better
geometrical accuracy, surface quality and less forming time to make automotive sheet
metal parts through incremental forming process.

Title: Topological design and optimization in additive manufacturing of biomedical
implants
Prerequisites:CAD, Optimization methods and MATLAB Programming
Outline: The objective of this project is to analyze the design and optimization of
gradual build-up of structures in additive manufacturing of biomedical implants with
the help of CAD model and optimization methods.
Possible Outcome: Results obtainedmayguide in decomposition of successive layers
in additive manufacturing of different complex shaped parts for biomedical
applications.

Title: Analysis ofultrafastlaser processing in micro/nano-fabrications for
MEMS/NEMS
Prerequisites:Heat transfer, fluid mechanics, numerical methods/ANSYS and
MATLAB Programming
Outline: The objective of this project is to analyze the laser materials interactions in
ultrafast laser processing for selection of process parameters and better control in
fabrications of MEMS/NEMS devices using the theory of micro-scale transport
phenomena (heat transfer and fluid flow).
Possible Outcome: Results obtainedmay help in selection of process parameters for
better process control.

1. Project: Planetary gearbox modeling to evaluate the influence of tooth crack
on dynamic respose. (Project is selected by one group)
Present study will be performed by considering all gears are spur gear. Modeling will
be purely analytical. No Finite Element Technique will be used as the technique has
its own limitations.
Possible Outcome:
1. Study the dynamic response of the planetary gear by considering tooth root crack in
sun gear.
2. Study the dynamic response of the planetary gear by considering tooth root crack
in planet gear.

Prerequisite:
Basics of Mechanical Vibration, MatLAB software & Mathematica

2. Project: Planetary gearbox modeling to evaluate the influence of tooth wear on


dynamic respose.
Present study will be performed by considering all gears are spur gear. Modeling will
be purely analytical. No Finite Element Technique will be used as the technique has
its own limitations.

sun gear.
2. Study the dynamic response of the planetary gear by considering weared tooth of
planet gear.

3. Project: Modeling of Parallel Helical gearbox to evaluate the influence of tooth


crack on dynamic respose.
Present study will be performed by considering all gears are helical gear. Modeling
will be purely analytical. No Finite Element Technique will be used as the technique
has its own limitations.
Possible Outcome:
1. Study the dynamic response of the parallel gear by considering tooth root crack in
pinion.
2. Study the dynamic response of the parallel gear by considering tooth root crack in
gear.

Project Title: Design and Fabrication of Regenerative Power System for Tricycle

Objective and outcome of the project: The aim of this project is to design and
fabricate a power production and supply system for tricycle. This system will produce
power when the road is smooth or inclined and supply power when it will move
through climbing road.

Tentative Project Title: Accessing Process Capability of a system laden with


multiple characteristics
Brief Summary: Process capability ia a study which is carried out to ascertain
whether a product is produced as per the specification set by the designers. The
capability study will be carried out for a system beset with multiple relevant
characteristics. A appropriate case study will be chosen and said study will be
conducted on that system to ascertain the capability of that process to produce
product or services as per the specification.

BTP 1: Study of laminar confined twin slot impinging jet flow over moving flat
surface

Objective: The objective of above mentioned project is detailed investigation of flow


characteristics of laminar confined twin slot impinging jet flow over moving flat
surface.

Deatils and expected outcome:


The above work will be studied computationally using CFD. The impinging jet flow
is used in various industrial applications for heating and cooling applications. The
parametric study will be carried out for Reynolds number, spacing between two slot
jet, nozzle to plate spacing, motion of flat surface, etc.

Expected outcome: The behaviour of flow field, flow patterns, variation of axial
skin friction coefficient, wall pressure, variation of local Nusselt number, temperature
distribution, etc. will

BTP 2: Study of interaction of laminar offset jet with coflowing wall jet

Objective: The objective of above mentioned project is detailed investigation of flow


characteristics of interaction of laminar offset jet with coflowing wall jet.

Deatils and expected outcome:


The above study will be carried out using computationally using CFD. The detailed
flow field will be studied for various Reynolds number, spacing between two jet, etc.
