VIRESH GUPTA
Analyze the ethical issues arising out of the preparation of GP’s dossier by RK. What
should GP do next?

Information Technology(IT) specifies to the components that are used to store, fetch and
manipulate the information at the minimum level with the server having an operating system.
Information Technology has a wide area of applications in education, business, health, industries,
banking sector and scientific research at a large level. With the leading advancement in
information technology, it is necessary to have the knowledge of security issues, privacy issues
and main negative impacts of IT.

The case GP vs. RK provides an incident on ethical issues in IT.

According to case,

Gaya Prasad Yadav is a 32-year-old marketing professional with 7 years of working experience
in a consumer durable major in India. He is a social media savvy and very active in Facebook,
Instagram, WhatsApp and LinkedIn. He updates his social media profile every week with
personal as well as professional particulars and has a large following in social media. He got a
call from a leading recruiting firm for a position with a multinational company which he had
been ambitiously looking for. For the decision to accept the job he met a consultant Ramakrishna
two days later. To GP’s surprise RK already had a personal dossier of him which correctly
contained his personal and professional particulars. It got GP concerned as he had never known
RK and was very concerned about his social media security issues. Now GP is concerned about
the possible ethical issues arising out of this situation.

The ethical issues arising out of the preparation of GP’s dossier by RK are-

 Personal Privacy – RK had correctly prepared the dossier without getting any input from
GP. The issue of personal privacy arises as RK is unknown to GP and was not in his
social media group.

 Access Right - The issue arises as RK had compiled GP’s dossier without his
acknowledgment of accessing his social media information.

 Harmful Actions - This principle of ethical conduct restricts any outsiders from the use
of information technology in manner which leads to any loss to any of the users. With the
ease of access of GP’s data it could have been easily possible for RK to manipulate his
data to external users.
The next task for GP is to find out the way through which RK prepared his dossier. It is possible
that RK breached into his account to get his information. So, GP should confront RK’s action in
his interview with the clients organization CHRO and CEO to better understand the security of
his social media platforms.
