Family Readiness Groups and the Deployment Cycle

Volunteer Roles in the FRG


The official volunteers are members who donate their time and services to a variety of
FRG projects and activities. They can be the leaders, organizers, key callers and others
who actively contribute to the FRG.

Leader/Co-Leader
ƒ provides a direct link between the unit and family members
ƒ maintains regular contact with key callers
ƒ plans and coordinates for meetings and other FRG activities
ƒ assists in addressing family member concerns
ƒ refers families to appropriate agencies when necessary
ƒ supervises other FRG positions
ƒ welcomes new families
Treasurer
ƒ maintains accurate records of FRG funds in accordance with unit guidelines
ƒ maintains, accounts for, and documents spending of the fund
ƒ ensures that FRG activities are conducted in accordance with regulation
Secretary
ƒ records and maintains minutes for all FRG meetings
ƒ documents every time a vote is taken for the use of funds or other activities
ƒ assists with correspondence generated by the FRG
Newsletter Editor
ƒ publishes unit FRG newsletter
ƒ oversees gathering of information; organizes, writes and edits material
ƒ organizes newsletter staff
ƒ researches local regulations concerning official newsletters
ƒ distributes newsletter to FRG membership

Activities Chair
ƒ plans, organizes and executes FRG activities and special events
ƒ solicits ideas and interests from FRG membership for upcoming activities
ƒ helps find needed resources for activities
ƒ manages all FRG fundraising activities including coordination, permission, and recruiting
volunteers

Point of Contact or Key Caller


ƒ initiates and maintains contact with family members within their support chain (through
meetings, visits, phone calls, and email)
ƒ verifies phone and address information
ƒ identifies any concerns or problems
ƒ distributes important information to family members
ƒ communicates problems that may be arising within his or her support chain to the FRG leader
and/or commander/RDC
ƒ often gives FRG members their first impression of the FRG
