2.12 Remove ball valves VBA72-SW-FP-FS-LL, VBAC2-FS-GO-LL and VBAC2-TR-FS-


GO-LL from the pipe spec.

2.13 All flanged ball and NPS ≥ 1½ flanged plug valves shall be “Short Pattern” per
ASME B16.10. NPS ≤ 1 flanged plug valve face to face dimensions shall follow
ASME B16.10 for steel flanged gate valves.

2.14 NPS 3 – 24 butterfly valves shall be Long Pattern. NPS 30 – 48 butterfly valves shall
be Short Pattern.

9 BOLTING:

9.1 Default to using stud bolts. Use of cap screws requires MPC approval.

9.2 Flanges that require a "controlled tightening" method shall require ASTM F436
(Type 1) through-hardened or carburized Carbon Steel flat washers (2 per stud).
Joints being "tensioned" do not require washers. Piping and fixed equipment
flanges with stud size ≥ 1¼ and < 2" is one example of studs requiring "controlled
tightening" and washers. See section 4.1 and 4.6 of SP-50-16 for other cases
requiring "controlled tightening" or "tensioning."

9.3 All refinery piping and fixed equipment bolted joints with stud size 2" or larger
shall be hydraulically tensioned. Washers are not required for these studs.

10 BLINDS & SPACERS, LINE BLANKS:

10.1 Remove all paddle blanks and paddle spacers from the pipe spec. They shall be
ordered as Piping Specialty Items.

11 SPECIALTY COMPONENTS:

12 PIPING INSTRUMENT CONNECTIONS:

12.1 O’lets with WN flanges are preferred over Flanged Pipets® for flanged PI, TI, TE
and TW instrument connections.

14.1 When integrally reinforced branch fitting cannot be used as limited by note 8 in the
branch table and reducing tees are not available per ASME B16.9 Table 8, use
reducing tee with reducer instead.

15 NOTES:

15.1 Revise note THK as follows: Piping wall thickness of “Sch. 40” for the NPS 6 – 12 size
range is only 0.001-inch – 0.002-inch 0.003-inch below the required calculated thickness
(including the CA of 0.125-inch) for meeting the flange rated pressure and is acceptable
for use. The CA for this size range will be reduced to 0.123-inch 0.122-inch – 0.124-
inch.

Branch Chart Notes


1. WOL covers a number of fittings including the weldolet, an insert weldolet (Bonney Forge Insert Weldolet or WFI SRV Vesselet) and a
contoured fitting (Bonney Forge Sweepolet or WFI Vesselet). The weldolet, manufactured to MSS SP-97, is an ASME B31.3 listed
component. The insert weldolet and the contoured fittings are not listed, but have been qualified in accordance with the code. The qualified
fittings should be used in vibrating or cyclic service or where radiographic examination of the weld is required; they may be preferred in larger
branch sizes because of the smaller weld size requirement. Engineering shall specify which fitting to use.
2. Sockolet is the default branch fitting.
3. Weldolet is the default branch fitting; a Reducing Tee may be used if available.
4. Reducing Tee is the default branch fitting; a Weldolet is acceptable where a Reducing Tee cannot be used.
5. Integrally reinforced branch connections are permitted outside the sizes shown in the branch connection tables. Designer
shall check weld thickness of integrally reinforced branch connections to determine if PWHT is required.
6. This table does not apply to hot taps, thermowells, pipe made of concrete, cement-lined steel, ductile iron pipe, or services
defined by ASME B31.3 as Category M, High Pressure, or Severe Cyclic.
7. SW Reducing Tee (RTs) is the default branch fitting; a Sockolet may be used where a RTs cannot be used.
8. Header thickness must be at least 0.75-inches in order to utilize an integrally reinforced branch fitting unless documentation is provided and
