Description/content Our new programme MEng Mechatronics and Robotics combines essentials from both mechanical
and electrical engineering, and features recent developments in technology. At the Schmalkalden
University of Applied Sciences, we maintain a close network with local industry. There are various
options for internships and Master's theses with small and medium-sized enterprises in our region.
Therefore, the degree is of high practical relevance. It grants excellent prospects on both the
German labour market and the international labour market.

In semester one, students deepen their existing knowledge of mechanical and electrical
engineering, and information technology.
Semester two deals with detailed subject areas, with students specialising in either mechanical or
electrical engineering. In addition, a project paper is prepared.
In semester three, students write and defend their Master's theses.

Schmalkalden is a very affordable study location. Costs of living are approx. 500 EUR per
month:
- 155 EUR for accommodation in the student dormitory

Applicants need to have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering,
Mechatronics, or similar.
Applicants require a solid command of English for admission to study. Language proof can be any
official language certificate, proof of Bachelor's studies in English, or similar.

Possibility of finding part- There are various medium-sized companies in Schmalkalden regularly looking for part-time
time employment employees. Schmalkalden University offers a dedicated career service that assists in such matters.

Accommodation The Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences guarantees all first-year students who apply in
time a place to live in one of the student dormitories near campus from 155 EUR a month, all costs
included! Schmalkalden offers several different possibilities for student accommodation.

Dormitories at Schmalkalden University

The Students Union of Thuringia runs all dormitories in Schmalkalden. There are two halls of
residence directly on the campus of the Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences - House I and
House II at Blechhammer 9, directly behind the canteen. Both dormitories have sufficient parking
space and can be reached on foot in less than a minute from the Schmalkalden-Fachhochschule
station, which is next to the campus. The halls of residence have furnished single rooms in one-
room, two-room and three-room apartments, which are equipped with a fitted kitchen and
shower/toilet. The monthly rent (with utilities) is between 155 and 199 EUR. About an eight-minute
walk from the campus, there is another dormitory in the new development Martin-Luther-Ring.
There are mostly single rooms in shared flats for two to four people. The rent is between 171.50
EUR and 218 EUR with utilities. All three dormitories are renovated and have washing machines,
dryers, and a bicycle cellar. A free Internet connection is offered in all areas, and all additional
expenses (electricity, heating, water, etc.) are already included in the rent.

Students can live alone or with other students in a flat-sharing community (WG). Those who would
like to live within their own four walls can move into their own flat or into an already existing shared
flat, or they can find a shared flat together with other fellow students or friends. The
Wohnungsgenossenschaft Schmalkalden and the Wohnungsbau Schmalkalden offer plenty of
apartments ranging in size and rent in different residential areas in Schmalkalden and the
surrounding area. With the extensive range of accommodation on offer, there is certainly
something for every student. In any case, if you inform yourself in time, you have the best chances
of stress-free student living in Schmalkalden.

Career advisory service Schmalkalden University has its own career service for students, graduates, and local companies.
The career service is the central interface between studies and career. It serves as the first point of
contact for companies looking for interns or cooperation opportunities, among other things.
