ACTIVITY / TOPIC NUTRITION PRESENTATION FOR THE CHILDREN OF

SAN ROQUE PARISH DAY CARE CENTER

DATE of Activity September 24, 2019

Review of the Activity

Today, it was the Nutrition group’s turn to do their presentation at the kindergarten. The
day started as usual, the class met up at the San Roque Parish Church Activity Center and the
attendance was checked again to see if everyone is already present. The Nutrition group then
started preparing and made sure that their materials are complete. While the group that is
assigned to clinic duty for that day also started setting up the dental clinic since there are patients
already waiting outside the clinic. We
rode a tricycle again to get to the
kindergarten, but this time Sister Lydia is
not accompanying us. Once we got there,
the teacher informed us that only a few
students have arrived and some were still
on their way. We waited for a while
outside so that there will be more kids
present once we go inside the classroom.
And again, after getting inside, we waited
until at least 14 kids were present in the
room before the Nutrition group started
their presentation.

The nutrition group then started their presentation. They introduced themselves one by one first
then started their role play about a child who
loves to eat snacks in between meals. The group
showed the unhealthy side-effects of frequent
snacking and how it affects our weight and
overall health. The kids were attentive to the
play and looked like they enjoyed it.

Fig. 2. Roleplay After the role play the group started a game
wherein there are several pictures of food stuck
on the board and they have to sort it whether the
food is “good to eat” or “not good to eat”. The
kids have to stick the picture of the food they are
holding to the correct category. They then rewarded the children after answering it right. After
the game, they started their discussion about nutrition and the importance of eating vegetables
and fruits and having a well-balanced diet. Thereafter, the group started handing out their gifts to
the kids present at the kindergarten. They finished a little early
than usual so some of us started to check the kids’ teeth since
there were new kids present today.
The whole class went back to San Roque Parish
Church by riding a tricycle. After getting there, our attendance
was checked again by Dr. Flores to see if the class is still
complete. And then everyone went back to school except for
the group that is on clinic duty.

Learnings: Fig. 3. The members of the

nutrition
I learned that eating snacks group explaining
is alright thebe
but it should
in moderation. Sweets and other mechanics
junk foodof the game
should be
avoided as much as possible. Eating healthy food, such as
fruits and vegetables, can help in improving our health and
help maintain our body to its optimum health and function. Having a well-balanced diet reflects
itself not only on our physical, but also to our mental and emotional well-being.

Review of Presentation
I think the nutrition group’s idea of doing a role play to explain what will happen if you
don’t eat healthy food and keep eating unhealthy sweet snacks and junk food was a nice way for
the kids to easily understand the importance of eating right and healthy food. The game was also
good for the children’s critical thinking was tested and their perception of what is good and not
good to eat was also checked to see if their diet was good and if they are eating healthily.
Overall, the group’s presentation was fitting for the children to easily understand what is being
taught to them since it is what the kids are interested in, just incorporated with some education
about nutrition.
