Reflective Writing

As a result of this project I have learned many things. I have learned the importance of

patience. Personally, I did not see the purpose of this project. I understand that it was to help test

our knowledge of performing confidence intervals and hypothesis testing. However I thought it

was interesting that I needed to use equations that I didn’t even use throughout the class. I felt

that I should have just been able to have entered it into the calculator. This project took me a

little over five hours, and I was not anticipating to work on it for this large amount of time. The

idea that it was my final high school project helped me get through it, and finish it. I also was

able to realize that I knew how to answer and solve the problems that were being asked. It is

most likely because we have just recently learned everything, but I was able to know exactly

where to find things on the calculator and how to find the p-hat and x bar. I was very proud of

myself in this regard. If I am being completely honest, I have no clue what I will be doing for a

career in the future. I always wanted to be a nurse, but now that I have reached that point in my

life to decide, of course I can’t. So, in regards to this being beneficial to my career, since I don’t

know it seems to be pointless. However, as one of my math teachers taught me, he told me that

there is always a reason for something in math. Some examples of importance with this project

could be sampling, and taking surveys. As I have had the opportunity to be the student body

president this year, I have been able to learn how to take surveys and figure out what the majority
of people want. By finding averages and intervals this will help me in the future better

understand the majorities and what people would prefer when planning things. By identifying

specific parts of the project and how it may apply to other classes, I had to use a calculator and a

pencil when working on this project, as well as typing on my computer. I will use each of these

different tools in a variety of my college classes in the future. This project really helped me think

outside the box and understand the importance of sampling and taking surveys. The larger the

sample, the better results and better data. This project did not have one effect on my view on

math and the real world. It supported my thoughts that math is hard. I have always liked math,

and throughout my education process I have always excelled in it. As I completed this project it

helped me better understand the importance of checking your work and going slow. It is crucial

to make sure everything is correctly put into your calculator. Overall, this project was

challenging for me, however I learned many things and I am excited to study math in college. I

cannot wait to see what my future career will be.
