Safety Precautions when using the
Belt Thresher 1. Leave all guards and shields in place when operating the machine 2. Before cleaning, servicing, or repairing the machine, disconnect the power to the unit 3. use only properly grounded outlet (electric only) 4. Keep hands out of threshing belt entry area 5. Do NOT wear loose clothing when operating this machine. Clothing can be grabbed by chain drives or rotating shafts and severe injury can result 6. Keep hands and feet away from chain drives and v- belts when machine is running 7. Lock brake when using (if equipped) Operation of the Belt Thresher 1. Locate the belt thresher out of the wind. If this is not possible, position the machine so the wind direction corresponds to the material flow through the belts. This is recommended because the prevailing wind may hinder the cleaning action 2. Make sure the power switch is in the OFF position, and then plug the machine into a properly grounded outlet. If an extension cord is needed, it is advised that the wire size be no less than 14 gauge. Motor damage may occur if the cord is not heavy enough. Visually check the machine to make sure there are no tools, foreign debris, etc. lying on the belts or in the feed chute. Turn the switch to on. The machine should run quietly an smoothly. If the belts are too close together, the upper belt chamber may jump, bounce or the chain will ratchet. Adjust the belt chamber up if this occurs 3. Typically, the feed chute is used for most crops, especially if the crop has a heavy stem. The top mounted feed hopper may be used for lighter stemmed crops that have a more bushy structure. Use of the top hopper with heavy stemmed crop will reduce belt life. Feed the crop evenly into the belts. Let the machine take the material at its own pace CAUTION: Keep your hands clear of the belts! 4. The belt speeds are factory set and non-adjustable. The clearance between the belts is adjustable via a wingnut located at the left rear of the machine. The belt clearance is located the left rear of the machine (see diagram #1). The belt clearance is increased by rotating the wingnut clockwise. The belts should be set just close enough to thresh the material 5. The threshed material is dropped into the cleaning air at the rear of the machine. The heavier material (seed) drops through the air on the lighter material (trash) is blown out of the rear. The volume of air is adjustable via a shutter at the left rear of the machine (See diagram 1). The seed is removed via a spring loaded door located at the left rear of the diagram. 6. Threshing performance may be altered by removing some of the belt pressure rollers to make the belts less aggressive, thus reducing seed damage. Lubrication, Care and Cleaning of the Belt Thresher 1. Grease pillow block bearing yearly- do not over grease. All other bearings are permanently sealed and require no lubrication 2. Belt pressure rollers should be removed and lubricated with a light machine oil and reinstall at the end of each session this will keep them from seizing in the off season 3. Check Daily for a. Tension, training, and condition (wear) of the threshing belts. b. Foreign materials between belts—blow out if necessary 4. Check Weekly for a. Tension and condition of v-belt drives b. Condition and tracing of chain and sprockets. Oil weekly with chain cube or a light machine oil c. Loose fasteners d. Condition of power cords. Replace if necessary 5. Check Tire Pressures Yearly. Inflate if necessary 6. DO NOT Pressure wash the machine. Use compressed air and a dry rag to remove dirt from machine surfaces. Caution: water may cause a electrical hazard
