Did she learn to sign for a specific reason? This is an art form that I've always admired
watching.
Buffalo Bob

She is a teacher of the Deaf and Hearing Impaired in Suffolk County schools. She is my
daughter in law. This was the profession she wanted... no hearing problems in the family.
She is a very lovely person and sings beautifully too.

Today the Hicksville High School JBirds Robotics Booster Club donated 300 snack
bags and 80 face shields to various places in need around Long Island, which includes
assisted living facilities, food pantries, urgent care centers, and other organizations.
These face shields and snack bags were crafted and donated by members of our team and
members from the Middle School FLL teams 16147, 23785 and 45172 and the Hicksville

So glad! this is a great thing the group is doing!!! Glad we could help. Charley was not
part of this group in HS (all about Orchestra & Boy Scouts for him) but we knew many
kids who loved what was an amazing program. XOXOXOX!!!

Thank you, Hicksville. Both my sons, Sal and joe Zabatino, graduated from Hicksville

and much entertainment from my family members.

for the card, and for thinking of us. This year, our 55th year together is really different.
We are in our home, not going anywhere to celebrate, so we happened to choose the

plan to really party when things open up and are no longer having to stay at home.
Thanks for always remembering us. We appreciate it.

Thank you for the card, and for thinking of me. It was much appreciated. Every
birthday is special. The birthdays when Joe and I are together with our children
and grandchildren, family and friends are the most cherished.

Patti Bilancia Posillico (shown above with hubby, Joe) 1962

Thanks so much for the anniversary card. We are surviving our quarantine going out
only when necessities are needed. Missing our family, especially the grandchildren is the
worst part of it. Had a fun day celebrating our youngest granddaughters’ birthday by
participating in a birthday parade. The rain stopped long enough for it to be enjoyed by
her. We will never forget this anniversary. At least the sun came out for a day.

May 2, 2020…Happy Birthday to my wonderful wife, Rosanna. No man could ask for
more in a woman beauty, intelligence, super Mom, great business leader, adventurous
and an outstanding cook. The years pass so fast, just last year we celebrated your 50th.
This was a great year. Although, we could have done without the pandemic. Ro, Love
you.

My husband threw a Surprise 50th Birthday right in my backyard. All week he and
my younger daughter did things while I was home and had no clue. There were over 50
people in attendance. It was a fun celebration!

Linda Parrella Ruggiero 1973

Thank you Bob and the gang at HixNews for that overly sweet Anniversary card!
George and I celebrated our 34th on Lockdown here in Cedar Hill, TX. We had Baby
Lobster Tails, roasted potatoes and a good bottle of Champagne, while wearing our finest
pajamas watching the sun set in our back yard. This was an unusual yet memorable year!

Hi Bob- just watched your video compilation of Hicksville Then & Now and really
enjoyed it. We moved to the “B” section (Bishop Lane) in 1963 and I attended Dutch
Lane. My parents bought an old chicken farm and built a house on Kingston Ave (Old
Country Road School area) in 1973. My Mom managed the Hicksville Theater on East
Marie Street when it was owned by United Artists. I graduated HHS in 1978, left town on
an ROTC scholarship and then served 23 years in the USAF. Pretty sure Grumman’s
proximities and childhood experiences influenced my love of anything aviation-oriented.
I had the opportunity to work with Grumman on the engineering redesign and cockpit
layout of the old F-111 D/F model aircraft for the USAF. Really enjoy seeing glimpses of
the past. All 3 of our family’s children live out of state, so I will pass on the link for their
enjoyment. Thanks. Stay well.

Twenty year reunion in 1994
Who remembers the Casa Allegra restaurant on Hicksville road, route107 just south
of old country road near Botto Brothers Ace Hardware store? I loved that place for
incredible Italian food.

Many fond memories of Casa Allegra dating back to 1956! I remember playing the dual
sided Elvis Presley hit “Hound Dog” & “Don’t Be Cruel” - endlessly on the jukebox! The
owner was a nice lady named “Sadie” Also had a cool aquarium behind the bar/cash
register. The menu is from 1969

Patricia Hoffer 1965

Every birthday I picked there. My mom even got the baking dishes for the veal Parm. I
have them.

My dad, John Uss

was coach in the Hicksville Little League for the Firestone team. His son, and my brother
Warren, is seated on the far left. I went to all the Games. Burns avenue tag if you’re in

What year do you think this was?

Vin Fallacara 1977

Maybe 1962?
Maureen

Warren was my first captain in Emergency Company 5, Hicksville Fire Department and
was a good man.

Raymond Granville, Bethpage High School 1976

Thank you. He loved being in the Fire department. He was an awesome brother who is
missed by so many.

In The News
Hicksville Elementary School Parades To Be
Held Saturday May 9th
By Gillian Smith, Patch Staff

HICKSVILLE, NY, May 8, 2020 – Elementary schools students in Hicksville will get the
chance to visit their teachers this weekend, May 9th with a car parade.
Teachers at East Street, Fork Lane and Woodland elementary schools will stand outside
the schools as their students pass by in car parades, waving and holding signs to show
their students how much they miss them.
Hicksville students have spent the past several weeks learning remotely and this will give
students a chance to see their teachers in person from a safe distance.
The parades will take place on Saturday, May 9 at
East Street School from 10-11 a.m.,

Woodland Elementary School from 10 - 11 a.m.

Fork Lane Elementary School from 12-1 p.m.

Last week, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that all New York schools
and colleges will remain closed through the end of the academic year. For teachers and
school staff members, this means they will not be able to see their students in person
again this year and will not get the chance to say goodbye before the summer break.
It’s been almost 2 years since I was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer. I had my
follow up scan yesterday which I have every 6 months and it was all clear. No cancer!! I
do not know what the future will bring, but for now it is so wonderful to read the words
“unremarkable” on my CT scan report. For anyone who has experienced any kind of
cancer, you all know the waiting for test results is incredibly stressful. Thank goodness
for the kindness of one of the oncology nurses who knows how nervous I get. She called
me right away with the results. God bless her! For anyone who reads this who has
recently been diagnosed with cancer or is going through cancer treatments, never give up!
Life can get better again! Thank you to all who have continued to pray for me!
Donna Patelis Norian 1972

Best News ever! You are going to be a true survivor story! I agree with what my daughter
said, live for today! None of us are promised tomorrow...love you my sweet friend!

Linda Houdarski Fricchione, Trespar Clarke High School, 1972

Thank you, Linda! Yes, I try to do that and not think back or think ahead!!
Donna
I am so happy for you and can relate to the anxiety you experience waiting for results. I
had a routine 6-month blood work-up done and my primary suggested I have extensive
testing because something unusual showed up. To make a long story short I went to an
Oncologist and they found that I have Multiple Myeloma. That was four years ago, and I
went every six months for follow up testing, but the Myeloma has not grown. As I said, I
am incredibly happy you are cancer free.

Buffalo Bob Casale 1961

Thank you so much! It is so good to hear stories of people surviving cancer. Very
uplifting. God Bless!
Donna

I am soooooooo happy for you. I knew you would beat this! I am 7 years past diagnosis
for stage 3 colorectal cancer. Life is so interesting and reflective!

Marietta Pucillo
Great news Donna I am so happy for you and it is so great to hear good news these days.
Rock On!
James Fricchione

Donna, this is such wonderful news and I am so happy for you. You are anything but
unremarkable, but so happy the scan is! You are a WARRIOR!

Debbie Gould Coonerty 1972

Congratulations to our own COMET Judith Clurman with her EMMY nomination.
This is news that I would like to share!

Cheryl Gries Brown 1972

I just received an EMMY nomination (announced on The View), with my co-writer
Wesley Whately, for the song, “A New Carol - The Holidays Are Here,” which I
conducted on the Singing Christmas Tree Float, on NBC’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day
Parade, this past November. The Daytime Emmys will be broadcast on CBS TV in June!

Judy Clurman 1971

Kathleen White 1970

WooHoo! Yay Judy! Mazel Tov! 🎶🎶❤️

Marcia Diamond Sandler 1971

Congratulations!!! 🎉🎊 I always knew Judy would go far, since our days singing in
chorus together. She had passion and drive!

Karen Braches Shafonda 1970

What an honor! Brava Judith Clurman for your Emmy nomination and all your many
accomplishments in your life. No matter what the outcome, you are a winner in life and
in the hearts of the people of Hicksville. 💐

Barbara Schoenfeld Fernandes 1975

A picture began circulating in November. It should be “The Picture of the Year” or

perhaps, “Picture of the Decade.” It will not be. In fact, unless you obtained a copy of the
US paper which published it, you probably would never see it. The picture is that of a 21-
week-old unborn baby named Samuel Alexander Armas, who is being operated on by
surgeon named Joseph Bruner. The baby was diagnosed with Spina bifida and would not
survive if removed from his mother's womb. Little Samuel's mother, Julie Armas, is an
obstetrics nurse in Atlanta. She knew of Dr. Bruner's remarkable surgical procedure.
Practicing at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, he performs these
special operations while the baby is still in the womb.
During the procedure, the doctor removes the uterus via C-section and makes a small
incision to operate on the baby. As Dr. Bruner completed the surgery on Samuel, the little
guy reached his tiny, but fully developed hand through the incision and firmly grasped
the surgeon's finger. Dr. Bruner was reported as saying that when his finger was grasped,
it was the most emotional moment of his life and that for an instant during the procedure
he was just frozen, totally immobile.
The photograph captures this amazing event with perfect clarity. The editors titled the
picture, 'Hand of Hope.' The text explaining the picture begins, 'The tiny hand of 21-
week- old fetus Samuel Alexander Armas emerges from the mother's uterus to grasp the
finger of Dr. Joseph Bruner as if thanking the doctor for the gift of life!
Little Samuel's mother said they 'wept for days' when they saw the picture. She said, 'the
photo reminds us pregnancy isn't about disability or an illness, it's about a little person.'
Samuel was born in perfect health, the operation 100 percent successful.
See the actual picture, and it is awesome...incredible....and hey, pass it on. The world
needs to see this one! Don't tell me our God isn't an awesome God!!!
Live from Las Vegas a shout out to everyone in Hicksville. I hope that you are all safe
and healthy. I went to Saint Ignatius and Hicksville High School. I would send you all my
Slot machine winnings, unfortunately Las Vegas is closed.

Ambulance Crashes While Taking Patient to

Nassau Hospital
PLAINVIEW, NY — An ambulance taking a patient to Plainview Hospital collided with
a car on an exit ramp of the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway. The private ambulance
crashed around 6:45 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Old Country Road and the exit
ramp of the northbound lanes of the expressway, officials said.
Plainview firefighters used wood cribbing to stabilize the ambulance before they could
remove the patient and emergency medical crews from the leaning ambulance. The
patient was removed and a Plainview Fire Department ambulance took the patient to the
hospital.
Both drivers and emergency crews in the private ambulance refused medical attention.
Old Country Road was closed in both directions while crews operated at the scene. The
exit ramp from the expressway was also closed.
Today, January 9, 2020 is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day! Thank you to
all the brave men & women that wear the uniform! The Ocean County Prosecutor’s
Office would like to express our profound appreciation to all Local, State and Federal
Law Enforcement Officers for their courage and commitment to ensuring our safety
every day!
When I was passing through Massachusetts…

I bought this poster signed by the trooper who was in the photo with the little boy! Nice
guy since passed!! Stopped at a Mass State Police barracks and discussed my purchase
with a trooper. The luncheonette was right around the corner!! Went there to eat lunch!!
Met the owner, still there, he called the child in picture, he came to diner! I had a photo of
original owner, the kid and me in the trooper’s place. Cannot find that old photo. What
nice people !!

Passages
April 25…a Happy 62nd Birthday in heaven, Jimmy. We have so much to celebrate
this year with the birth of your great nephew/niece in July and know that you will be right
there with us when that wonderful day comes. Greg is in our lives and it is remarkable
how much he looks like you-another handsome guy like yourself. You were blessed with
the most caring, loving mother and she misses you so much. Hug everyone up there who
are with you and tell them we miss them tremendously. We love you forever.

Cheryl Gries Brown 1972

Bob, it is with great sadness I announce the passing of my good friend and classmate

from HHS class of 1962, Ronald LaDue. Please pray for his wife and brother Robert
LaDue. Thank you.

Albert Lamoureux 1962

On a very somber note...we received some extremely devastating news this morning
(April 30, 2020). My peer, my mentor and my friend

Warren Gluck, class of 1972, has died. Warren (pictured below far right) was one hell of
a Disk Jockey (DJ) and an even more amazing human being. I remember watching &
listening to him work for hours at gigs he was ‘DJing at and one of my greatest honors
was the be chosen to share the booth with Warren at the

Gay Pride Pier Dance 'Dance On The Pier 19'

Warren always brought such joy, calmness and love to his music and in his life and just
his having him around always made me feel calm and safe and I just pray that that is how
he left the earth, feeling calm and loved. What I do know is that when he passed, he had
his two dogs lying with him. As more details come in, I will certainly share them with
everyone. R.I.P. Warren

Randy Bettis

We go way back. To the early Saint and Monster Days.

Cathy Meller
Wow I'm so sorry for your loss Randy. I have such great memories of Warren as he was
the first DJ to play and continually support my music as MarQus. He will be missed!

Marc Smith

Yes, I believe i got some of your music from Warren...he loved your work and your
voice.... why wouldn't he!
Randy B.

Oh Randy. I am so, so sorry. He spun for us several times up at the Crown. My favorite
memory of him was the night in 2003 when Bonnie & June Pointer were a no show... he
started the night with Judy Singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow...RIP.
Rob Rosiello

He was amazing and taught me that musically you should always be prepared for
something to go wrong or something special might happen and you want to have the
music at the ready!
Randy B.
So sad to hear this. We loved Warren. I haven’t seen him in a while but my best memory
of him was when Terry had arranged for Warren and Wendy Hunt spin T Dance together
at Pride here in Lauderdale, billed as Warren vs Wendy.

Bill Huelsman

Oh no. We were childhood friends.

Deborah Morse Ackley, Holy Trinity High School 1972

I am so sorry to hear this. Rest in Peace. Thank you for all the beauty of Christmas that
you have shared with the community for all these years.
Elizabeth Manieri 1983

A tribute to our fellow COMET Warren Gluck 1972 from his dear friend Frankii:
I had the honor and privilege of having been a good friend and roommate to Warren
Gluck. We, his family and me, are saddened greatly in announcing his passing.
I know Warren was an incredible son and brother, the dearest of friends, a gardener, a
store manager, a valued member of his community, a flagger, and of course, as we all
know, a legendary world Disc Jockey (DJ).
Warren was a DJ for over 45 years and to say that Warren entertained over a million
people on every continent, except Antarctica, is no exaggeration. You name the event; he
played it. The Saint, The Black Party and White Party New York, Pines Party Fire Island,
Pride Sydney, Mardi Gras Brazil, Red Party, Singapore, Atlantis Cruises around the
world…just to name a few. He was The Low Tea DJ of the Fire Island Pines. There were
also all those very special intimate events, loft parties, special weddings, the house on the
hill; the list goes on and on and on. The Monster was of course his home base – in NYC,
Fire Island and Key West. No matter where you heard Warren you knew you were in for
a treat of amazing music mixed with a bit of magic and a lot of love. Warren attracted the
fanners and flaggers of course…so much so that we even turned him into one!
His community loved him – yes the dance community, the fanning and flagging
community, the gay community, the NYC community, the Fire Island community, but
also his home community of Hicksville, NY, where we shared a home for over 12 years.
Christmas on Primrose Avenue will never be the same again, as people traveled from
across Long Island and NYC to come see the installation of the year. “Warren’s Snoopy
Christmas” which engulfed the yard, up and over the entire house and even the roof –
complete with Snoopy’s airplane taking off from the roof to deliver more presents.
Children and adults all were immersed in Warren’s gift of Light and Joy. After Warren
retired from DJing, he took his joyful smile to be a store greeter quickly turned to
manager, so all the community could experience Warren.
At home, Warren was an amazing gardener – the Angels Trumpets! the Elephant Ears!
The lush garden! Of all these gifts from Warren, perhaps his greatest gift was the care he
provided his father in his final years. He was an amazing son and an amazing brother. As
a friend…there will never be another like Warren Gluck. We Love You Warren and Look
Forward to the Day we hear you remixing the Choir of Angels. Our loss is most certainly
Heaven’s gain.

Today I heard of the passing of Warren Gluck. Many of you may not have known Warren
personally but may be familiar with his beautifully decorated

Dear HixNews. I wanted to advise you, his graduating class of 1958 and friends of my

brother Kenneth Krieb, of his passing on Valentine Day, February 14. I have attached a
photo of him in his Suffolk county police uniform. Thank you.

I was just devastated to learn that

Richard Muller class of 1978 passed in 2017. My dad and Rich were best friends. R.I.P.
my friend; too young to go. Does anyone know anything about passing?

Curtis Paul Eaton 1979

Oh, no; I am so sorry to hear this. May he R.I.P.

Lorraine Quigley Burnard 1978

Yes, Curtis. I graduated with Rich in 1978 and played football with him in St. Ignatius
CYO. He was a great guy.
Bob Willis

Rich is in Top row second from right. I remember one time when we were practicing. I
was a running back and ran through the line and right into Rich and got knocked out.
Bob W.

With a heavy heart I am deeply saddened by the passing of my Mother. She would
have been 102 in July. It is so difficult to mourn the loss of this wonderful strong woman
but take comfort in knowing she is reunited with my Dad. Until we meet again. Rest in
Peace
Francis LaBarca Miron 1964

So saddened to hear my Aunt Mary has passed. She was one of the great ladies. I will
always remember her smile & her laugh & dancing the polka with her at a family
function. I have many good memories of Aunt Mary. My sincere condolences to you,
Francine & the family. May she RIP.

Gaetana Esposito
I am so sorry for the loss of your Mother, especially during this exceedingly difficult

Kathryn Serrell from the class of 1976 has passed.

Wishing my beautiful mom a Happy Mother’s Day in Heaven.

Thirty-six years have gone by and not a day goes by that I don’t think of you. You are
always in my heart and will always be until we meet again. Enjoy your special day with
daddy, Warren (HHS 1971) and John (HHS 1966). Keep sending me your signs.

Our friend since childhood, Charlie Coney (HHS '65’) passed away today
(5/11/2020).  His wife Elizabeth passed away three weeks ago after a 2-year battle with
cancer and Charlie’s fight with esophageal cancer ended abruptly early this morning.  He
was a great friend and we will miss him. Attached please find a picture of the 4 of us in

With deep regret I must inform you that

Vinny Miracolo has passed away! He made the best shot I ever saw in basketball! Rest
safe, old teammate. I have no details about his passing, so please do not ask. Pray for his
soul.

Joseph “Buzzy” Assante 1974

I will remember Vinny best for eating the worm in Mr. Goldstein's biology class. Just
about the funniest thing I ever saw in school. He was a sweet guy.

Laura Sikula Mahar

Had him in a few of my classes, funny guy.

Gary Hertling 1974

Vinnie was in Mr. Morris' sixth grade class at Burns Ave with me. Part of the back table.
We had fun that year. RIP.

Mike Romanelli 1974

Very sad. He was always nice to me.
