1. a) Draw and explain closed cycle gas turbine with introducing, reheating and regeneration. 8
Also draw the T-S diagram for the same.
OR
2. In a closed cycle gas turbine, there is 2-stage compressor and a two stage turbine. All the 14
components are mounted on the same shaft. The pressure and temperature at the first stage
comp. are 1.5 bar and 20ºC. The maximum cycle temperature and pressure are linked to
800ºC and 6 bar. A perfect inductor is used between the 2-stage compressor and a reheater
is used between the two turbines. Gases are heated in the reheater to 750ºC before entering
into LP turbine. Assuming The compressor and turbine efficiencies as 0.82,
Calculate:
ii) The efficiency of the cycle with a regenerator whose efficiency is 0.7.
iii) The mass of the fluid circulated if the power developed by the plant is 350 kw.
Air is used as a working fluid for air r = 1.4 and Cp = 1.005 kJ/kg.k.
3. a) Explain the working of Ram-jet engine with neat sketch. Also explain its advantages and 7
limitations.
NJR/KS/18/4733 1 P.T.O
b) The following data refers to a turbojet flying at an altitude of 9500m 6
Speed of turbojet = 800 km/hr
Propulsive efficiency = 55%
Overall efficiency of = 17% turbine plant
Density of air at 9500m = 0.17 kg/m3 altitude
Drag on the plane = 6100N
C.V. of fuel = 46000 kJ/kg.
Calculate
i) Absolute Velocity of jet. ii) Volume of air compressed per min.
iii) Diameter of jet. iv) Power output of the unit.
v) Air fuel ratio.
OR
OR
6. a) Explain the principle and working of MHD generator with neat sketch. 6
b) Explain with neat sketch seeded inert gas system of closed cycle MHD generator. 7
7. a) Explain the Indian energy scenario with reference to sector wise consumption of 6
electricity and conventional and non conventional source wise generation of electricity.
OR
