L Cut 24)lcm length slices ITombeetroot using a cork borer and place in a beaker of
distilled water. Leave for 5 minutes.
2. Place 1 slice into each of3 boiling tubes containing 5cm3of distilled water and place in a
beaker of water placed in ice. Leave for 20 minutes.
'.3, Remove the beetroot sections and shake the boiling tube to disperse the dye.

4" Set the colorimeter to read % absorbance and set the filter dial to the blue-green filter.

5. Using a pipette, measure 2cm3of distilled water into a cuvetty and place in the
colorimeter. Adjust it io rearlzero absorbance for distiIIedwater.
6. Place 2,~m3of the dye solution ITomone of the 3 boiling tubes into a~uvette and take a
reading for absorbancy.Repeat with the other 2 slices. Calculate an average.
