Risk assessment Assignment

Briefly explain risk assessment

Explain the legislation that you are adhering to in your responsibilities with risk
assessment
Explain the four main hazard areas that you need to consider in your work
place and give examples of risk assessments that you have implemented to
ensure hazards have been removed or reduced. (state where these are
stored)

Consider COSHH (control of substances hazardous to health)

Explain how you have made sure your team are following safe practices
with the following hazardous substances:
Medication
Alcohol
Food hygiene
Fire
Smoking
Security of the work place/service users’ home
Infection control

Give an example of a positive risk assessment you have completed and

explain how you have assessed and implemented this plan. The plan can be
for the work place, the practices of your team or needs of the service users.

Explain how you have reviewed any current risk plans in place.

You will also need to explain how further reading has enabled you to add the
views of theorists such as Titterton and his view on risk assessment and how
they are implemented. Do you agree with his view of risk assessment.

 Risk taking can have beneficial outcomes as well as harmful outcomes.

We should be prepared to identify the types of benefits and harms
which may occur, as well as their likelihood.
 We can try and be more specific about the range of factors which affect
the likelihood or probability of certain kinds of outcomes.
 We can also attempt to specify the time-scale within which the risk
taking activity is intended to take place.
 A handy definition of 'risk' is:
“the possibility of beneficial and harmful outcomes and the likelihood of
their occurrence in a stated time-scale”.

Personal and Professional Issues

 Your own attitude to risk will influence your judgement

– e.g. are you a high risk-taker in your personal life?
 Past experience will influence your judgement
– e.g. If you have been run-over in the past you will take less risks
crossing the road in the future
 Influence of your employing authority
– Is it complacent, has it just undergone an inquiry etc.…?
