6.0 Design Project Deliverables

6.1 Physical Description, Features and Location

This coastal style home plan with contemporary influences

has about 668.98sqm of living space. It is located in Block 5

Lot 37 Il Giardino Residences, General Trias Cavite. The 2

story floor plan includes 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, and 2

half baths. The plan also includes a 3 – car garage, 2

covered lanais, a foyer, a family room, a study and a home

office for the first floor, and three covered balconies, a sitting

area and a gallery for the second floor. A pool is also

included in the design for the family to enjoy during their

leisure time. A large, spacious garden is provided with

outdoor lights to highlight the beauty of the garden, while

also providing a sort of perimeter lighting for the whole

house. Each bedroom is also provided with its own Walk – In

– Closet for convenience of the occupants. For additional

comfort, each bathroom is equipped with a water heater

hard – wired into the electrical system of the property. 2

refrigerators, 1 at the kitchen and 1 at the dining room,

provides convenience for both the family and the cooks.

Large windows are provided in specific areas to allow the

inside occupants a view of the garden outside the residence.

6.2 Features and Limitation of the Design

The design meets all the minimum requirement of the

Philippine Electrical Code (PEC). All the electrical devices

used in the design is available in the local market, and has

standard safety features. The electrical system design of the

house is protected by a main circuit breaker, with each

branch circuit and individual circuit being provided with its

own circuit breaker to protect the equipment and the

occupants of the house. Fire alarm is included in the design,

with each room having its own smoke/heat detector. The

residential unit also has 4 buzzer alarms. In case of fire,

these buzzers will trigger to alert the occupants of the house.

There is also a provision for a 4kW solar panel to serve as

back – up power for the lighting panel in case of a power

interruption. The limitation of the design is that it has no

calculation for the voltage drop of the conductors, as well as

calculation for the illumination level in each room. The design

also has no provision for telephone cable and other auxiliary

equipment.
6.3 Design Criteria and General Specifications

The design criteria were given by Engr. Generoso Restubog.

All the wiring materials and devices should be placed in its

standard place and elevation, as defined by the code. Each

room in the house should have a convenience outlet to

provide power for the appliances. The spacing of the

convenience outlets follows the code, which states that there

should be a maximum of 1800mm between an appliance and

an outlet, and a maximum of 3600mm between outlets. The

design must also consider the environmental constraints. The

electrical system design has 26 individual branch circuits for

the PP, 2 being spare, 10 branch circuits for the LP, with 1

being spare, and 18 branch circuits for LP2, with 2 being

spare.

The requirements are as follows:

• At least 1 water pump for swimming pool

• Renewable energy back – up

• All the wiring materials and devices must be available in

the local market

The distribution company that will provide power will be

MERALCO. A 230V, single – phase, 2 – wire overhead service

form the utility company shall be provided for the residential

building. This will terminate on a concrete pedestal where

the electric meter and service equipment shall also be

installed. The electrical plan will be using a lateral service

entrance from the pedestal going to the power panel located

in the Living Room. The main feeder of the electrical plan

would be 4 – 50mm2 THWN/22mm2 (GND) through a

53mmØ Rigid Metal Conduit to protect the feeder wire. Two

pairs of parallel conductors are used in order to support the

demand current of the system, while trying to keep costs

down at the same time. The feeder is protected by a

300AT/300AF Inverse Time Circuit Breaker. The total

connected load of the system is 74,479VA. The loads are

divided into two panels. The Power Panel (PP) carries the

large and motor loads, while the Lighting Panel (LP) carries

the lighting and small appliance (convenience outlet) loads.

The overall demand factor of the system is around 72%, and

the feeder calculation is based on this demand.

Every conductor in the system is protected by a conduit. PVC

schedule 40 is utilized for the branch circuits. The sizes of

the conduits are stated in the general specifications and load

schedule of the panel. The design has a back – up system in

case of a power interruption. The proposed capacity is 4kW

to supply the lighting only during power interruptions. There

are one 2HP ACUs, two 1.5HP ACUs, three 1 HP ACUs, two ¾

HP ACUs, two ½ HP ACUs, and two ½ HP Pool Pumps. There

are also one 8kW Electric Range and five 2kW Water
Heaters. There are GFCIs in every bathroom as specified in

the specification data sheet, and the outdoor outlets to be

installed should be waterproof.

35mmØ IMC Nipple with lateral service entrance.

 The loads are divided into 2 panels: The Power Panel

(PP) with 26 branch circuits, and Lighting Panel (LP)

with 26 branch circuits as well.

Recommendation

In electrical system design, it is very relevant to know the

clients to be able to know the design they want. It is also important

for us to be familiar with the local market, as well as the brands of

the devices, conductors, and conduits that are available, as this is

needed to know the cost of the design. Another thing to consider is

the Philippine Electrical Code, as this provides the minimum

requirements for a safe operation. In designing, the priority is the

safety of the clients, so follow the standards ang the PEC.
