II. Objectives:
After accomplishing this module, you must be able to:
1. define communication;
2. determine the factors in order to have a successful communication; and
3. explain the importance of communication.

IV. Concept:
In this modern world, man needs to communicate so he can fulfill certain situation like informing,
motivating, persuading, instructing, controlling, coordinating and the like in order to survive in this very
challenging and demanding place he lives in. Communication is the process of exchanging information
from one person to another. Communication is derived from two Latin words: communis which means
“commonness” and communicare which means “to share”.

Communis - People who are engaged in communication should have something in common for
successful communication act to happen and they are the following:
1. Language Two persons who are communicating should speak the same language or dialect
so they will understand one another.
2. Knowledge Knowledge means how much information a person has about a certain topic. If
one has limited information about a topic under deliberation, then there will be
imbalance in terms of the sharing of information.
3. Interest They should possess the same level of interest so that there will be a continuous
exchange of information.
4. Experience Having similar experience or experiences with the person we are conversing with
will enable us to relate to the other person as we are familiar with what he is
going through or what he went through.
5. Culture Lastly, persons who are communicating should in a way have the same culture to
facilitate comprehension of the message being transmitted.

Communicare - This means that communication is a two-way process in which there is a give and take
relationship.
