to occupy leadership roles. This experience clearly defined my professional
mission: to develop a deeper understanding of how international business is
conducted for large and small companies, earn a senior position with an
emerging company, and grow business opportunities in areas beyond the U.S.
A: What stuck out to you about CEB when you found it on The Muse?
B: The business model of CEB really stuck out to me. I had never heard of a
company that offered advisory support, research, and valuable solutions for
executive leaders—all under one roof. I really thought it an ideal place to work
considering my goal to work as a business development leader. I was also really
excited about this particular position because it offered an opportunity to
understand the challenges companies face and how tools and resources can be
developed to address them.
A: What’s something people would find surprising about working at CEB?
B: I think people would find it very surprising that CEB has achieved a corporate
culture that strikes a delicate balance between a genuine, supportive environment
while maintaining competitive drive. Everyone you encounter here wants you to
succeed, and they make the time to help you reach your goals.
A: What’s your favourite part so far about working at CEB?
B: I really like the fact that CEB offers professional development courses and
resources that are available 24/7. It’s nice to be able to continue learning and
developing new skills at my own pace without having to pay for third-party
workshops and classes to get ahead.
A: Is there anything from The Muse that helped you out in your job hunt?
B: Before I discovered The Muse, I was applying to every job posting I could find.
After a few months of this and no response, I became very discouraged largely
because I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. The Muse provided
helpful articles and a filtered job search tool that allowed me to focus my efforts
on pursuing positions that really aligned with my career goals.

5.4.1 Do the following sentences in English:
57
5.4.2 Render the following text into English:

factories.

leads to additional spending. Supply chain management allows one to control supplies more
efficiently and helps in working with cash flaw. Supply chain management and logistics can be
understood as tools helping to work with financial operations. The main tasks in supply chain
management are integration of all company’s departments in one single system, controlling and
planning of all activities from the moment of closing the contract and placing the order to the
moment of delivery of the product to the end user.

5.4.3 Summarize the information provided in the table.
In Apple’s earnings, released this week, the company reported selling 78.3 million iPhones, higher
than Wall Street’s forecasts of 76.3 million in the holiday quarter.
Strategy’s report puts this figure into further context, saying that Apple captured just under 18
percent of the smartphone market in the quarter, rising 5 percent from the 74.8 million units
shipped over the same period last year.
“This was the iPhone’s best performance for over a year, as Apple capitalized on Samsung’s recent
missteps. Samsung shipped 77.5 million smartphones worldwide in Q4 2016, dipping 5 percent
annually from 81.3 million units in Q4 2015,” said Neil Mawston, Executive Director at Strategy
Analytics, in a statement.
Mawston explained how Samsung lost momentum because of the Note 7 fiasco. Samsung captured
17.7 percent market share in Q4 compared with Apple’s 17.8 percent, which gave Apple the lead
once again, if only slightly. Samsung’s market share, which resulted in a 21 percent share for the
full year, was its lowest level since 2011, he also said. However, on an annualized basis, Samsung
maintained first position with 309 million units shipped worldwide in 2016, the report notes.
For Samsung, the company is hoping for a return to growth when it releases its rumored Galaxy S8
model in a few weeks.
In addition to the Apple vs Samsung battle, the market overall saw growth of its own in Q4. Global
shipments grew 3 percent year-over-year from 1.44 billion in 2015 to a record 1.49 billion in 2016.
Huawei earned the third position in the quarter, with 10 percent market share – the first time that
the company had reached the double digits. The brand has struggled against rivals at home in China,
but saw improved performance in Western Europe.
Meanwhile, OPPO came in in the fourth spot, with a 7 percent share of the global smartphone
market after nearly doubling from 4 percent a year ago. Its growth is being attributed to popularity
in China, and now it’s preparing to expand into other emerging markets, like India and Nigeria.

used. There is no guarantee that the money spent will pay off, that the produce will be profitably
sold. This involves a risk of losing all or part of the property.
Sources of capital for starting a business can be:
• Personal funds:
1. For an individual entrepreneur they are his personal funds and savings, private property
(premises, equipment).
2. For a legal entity they are authorized capital.
• Investments:
1. Venture capital funds and business angels are active participants of new projects.
2. Raising funds through crowdfunding. Funds may be accepted in exchange for future products,
or as donations.
• Bank loans or borrowings from individuals (debt financing).
• Gratuitous aid (grants or subsidies).
6.4.3 Summarize the information provided in the graphs.
1.
New research shows that the country’s rate of new business creation, which peaked about decade
ago, plunged more than 30 percent during the economic collapse and has been slow to bounce back
following the recession. And that’s despite the fact that, over the last few years, the portion of the
U.S. population between the ages of 25 and 55 – historically the prime years for starting a business
– has been expanding, according to data compiled by the Kauffman Foundation, an
entrepreneurship research organization.
2.
Question is, who can help turn all this around? Millennials, Kauffman researchers suggest, have the
best shot at leading an entrepreneurial recovery, as they grew up in the digital age, have had more
exposure to entrepreneurship and have higher levels of education than previous generations. By
2020, they will also represent the largest age segment of the U.S. population.
Here’s the problem: they aren’t starting businesses. In fact, the rate of business formation by
Americans ages 20 to 34 has fallen sharply since 2011, and millennials aren’t starting nearly as
many new enterprises today as baby boomers were creating when they were the same age.

The chart shows a manufacturing company’s sales in three of its regions, and average sales for the
company over a nine-month period.
Scotland shows a decrease in sales from the previous month, unlike Wales, which made a slight
improvement, and England, where sales overtook the other regions.
97
Wales recorded the same results as the previous month, but both Scotland and England improved,
increasing the average sales figures.
Although England’s sales dropped, those for Wales recovered, reaching their highest point, and
resulting in an increased average figure.
Scotland saw a decline in sales, as did England. There was no change in Wales.
Wales and England maintained their levels of sales, average performance was down because the
figures of Scotland declined considerably.
