Team 1

1. You are Fred. What should you do now?

2. Turn back the clock to when Fred was offered the position in Tokio. What if anything,
should have been done differently, and by whom?

1. According to Hofstede 's dimension, America has a high masculinity dimension

compared to the world average. From this, we can state that America is experiencing
high levels of gender role differentiation. The male in America is more powerful and
has more strength than the female. So the situation turns out to be in favor of the
decisions taken by males who are away from women. But the present situation has
worsened, and Jennifer was determined to return home. Jennifer was really frustrated
with Japanese people by not understanding anyone or not being able to find things she
wanted in store, not being able to drive or read road signs. The main reason for this
may be that Fred 's family had no time to explore Japanese culture and people. While
their children were doing well with their schooling, she challenged Fred, as this
assignment was the same thing he had done in the past. So she forced Fred to leave
Japan and return to her home country.

Fred was expected to assign a Japanese manager to complete this proposal in time
rather than depending on the American manager. Fred would have some
understanding of the traditions and attitudes of Japanese consumers and employees.
Fred was supposed to set up a separate team of Japanese workers to present the
proposal to clients, because they would have understood their culture and actions
more well than the Americans.

I am Fred now, I understand that the problems  in the firm and in his family arise
because of the cultural differences between the two countries. I would try to speak to
my American company and explain the situation. I would told them to come up with
some plans to solve the issues or by helping me to solve the issue. I would tell Kline
& Associates to allow American managers and analysts know about Japan's local
culture to do well in the business. Japanese people are effective and hard-working if
directed by the right person who understands and helps them.

2. Fred 's family shoud have think about Japanese society before they went to Japan.
They were expected to learn about the geographical conditions existing in Japan. As
the same issues occur with the expatriate administrators, Fred was expected to leave
his family in his home country and take short breaks sometimes to fly back to
America to spend time with them. It may have left him to concentrate fully on his
work obligations in Japan. Fred was meant to have given time to spend with his
family on a daily basis. He was supposed to go with his family for short vacations to
wipe out the stress in his work environment. As stateted above, Japanese have
differen cultural dimension and Fred and his family should have known that and
should have made a reserch before actually coming to that country.
