Procedures
I. Motivation
The teacher will show a picture of a birthday celebration. The students will tell the
details in the picture that helped them know what the celebration is all about.

II. Presentation of the lesson


The teacher will show a picture that shows the setting of the story. The teacher will
activate schema by asking questions.

“Have you ever been in the deep, dark wood?”


“What animals can you see in the forest?”

III. Discussion of the lesson


 The teacher shows the book cover with the gruffalo covered. The students
will note details on the characteristics of the gruffalo by pasting cut-out words
on a chart.
 Once all the characteristics have been mentioned in the story, the students
will make an inference on how the gruffalo looks like by drawing their own
possible illustration of the gruffalo.
 The teacher will reveal the true image of the gruffalo and allow students to
compare and contrast their drawings to the real image.
 The teacher will then proceed with the story.

IV. Generalization
To note details, you must listen/read well the story, and look for the important details.
Ask the students the following questions about the story:
 Can you name an animal which can be found in our story?
 Where did our story happen?
 What did the animals feel about the gruffalo?
 Would you also feel the same if you will meet the gruffalo?
 What other things make you afraid?
 Who is your favorite animal in the story? Why?

V. Evaluation
The students will read a short story and note details on the story. The details will lead
them to make an inference about the story.

VI. Assignment
The students will read a story given by the teacher and answer questions that precede.
