B0700HP – Rev C Preface

xvi
1. Basic Server Setup
This chapter identifies the basic parts of the H90 Foxboro DCS Standard HP® ProLiant
DL380 server and explains its connections, indicators and interfaces.
This chapter contains all the information necessary to set up the H90 server.
The H90 servers are shipped preconfigured from Foxboro with all cards, internal hard drives, and
Windows Server 2016 operating system installed. Before performing any procedures described in
this document, you must determine the following information about your H90 server:
♦ Type of software installed (process engineering station or process operator station)
♦ Number of monitors used with the H90 server
♦ Size of internal system hard drive
♦ Type of Ethernet card(s) (if present)
♦ Determine Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) hard drive level: RAID 0,
RAID 1, or RAID 5.

Determining Your H90 Server’s Configuration

You can determine basic information about your H90 server (described at the beginning of this
chapter) from the H90 server’s H-Code.
H-Code is a production code used to identify a machine and its hardware configuration. The H-
Code can be found on a label on the top of the H90 server. The label is illustrated in Figure 1-1.
The information found on this label lets you identify:
♦ H-Code for your H90 server
♦ Style type
♦ Revision level

NOTE
If you are unable to locate your H-Code, or if you have made modifications to your
machine without updating the H-Code, contact 1-866-746-6477, or outside the
U.S., 508-549-2424 for assistance.

NOTICE
POTENTIAL DATA LOSS

Remote client workstations supported by Model H90 servers must not

be used as replacements for dedicated, multiple Foxboro DCS
workstations because of performance considerations and a single
workstation could potentially cause a disruption by becoming
unavailable. When remote client stations are totally dependent on
applications running in the server, a detected failure or shutdown of
the server will affect all these remote stations as well. Also, due to the
variability of demand that can be placed on the server by remote client
sessions, the performance of the applications running on the Model
H90 server may not be as deterministic as it is on a dedicated, single-
user workstation.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in data loss.

2
1. Basic Server Setup B0700HP – Rev C

Table 1-1 helps you identify the type of H90 server you have, based on the information on the
H-Code label. After you have identified the type of H90 server, use the remaining digits in the
H-Code (after the first two characters) to identify the equipment installed in and used with the
H90 server.

16
1. Basic Server Setup B0700HP – Rev C

USB Annunciator Keyboard Label Preparation

The USB annunciator keyboards are shipped with a configuration application (FoxHPC) which
can configure and print out labels to identify each lamp/switch pair key. The label for each key
must be placed under a clear cover in the key. Refer to USB-Based Annunciator Keyboard User's
Guide (B0700FT) for instructions on configuring these labels and printing them on your printer’s
standard paper.
Perform the following steps to prepare and install the labels.
1. Print the desired labeling information on the desired paper as discussed in USB-Based
Annunciator Keyboard User's Guide (B0700FT).
2. With a pair of scissors, cut out the labels from the printed sheet. Verify that each label
is cut small enough that it can fit under the clear plastic cover of each key.
3. For each key, carefully pull out the clear plastic shield on top of the key. It may be
useful to expose a corner of the clear shield by pulling it free from the rubber
moulding of the key, and then using that corner as a lever to remove the clear shield
from the key.
4. Put the label in the recess left empty by the shield.
5. Slip the clear shield back into its recess in the key.
6. Repeat Steps 3-5 for each remaining key.

Local Video
Connect the video as shown in Figure 1-10 and Figure 1-11. An add-in video card is required for
all cable lengths. Use of the integrated video is not supported.

Local Single-Monitor Connections

To connect a single monitor locally, make the cable connections shown in Figure 1-10 and
Figure 1-11.

Local Multiple-Monitor Connections

Dual/quad-head local/extended monitors (that is, analog only up to 30 m (100 feet)) may be
configured as illustrated in Figure 1-10 and Figure 1-11 by using the installed video card. Their
optionally associated USB touchscreens are cabled via the RH103BZ USB, fiber, 30 m (100 ft)
extension kit.
This analog video connection will only operate when the Foxboro P/N RH924DF or P0924DF
30 m (100 ft) VGA cable is used in conjunction with the Foxboro P/N RH103ER, Mini
DisplayPort to VGA adapter, is used. The P0971DY 30 m (100 ft) analog cable will not
function correctly. If the 15 m (50 ft) analog cable is used, analog part numbers must be
RH924DE or P0924DE. The P0971DX cable will not function correctly.
For human interface devices (that is, monitors, touchscreens, mouse, keyboard, etc.), which need
to be mounted more than 30 meters (100 ft) from the Model H90, use the Remote Graphics Unit
(RGU) that is described in the Matrox Extio 3 Remote Graphics User’s Guide (B0700HR).

Local Touchscreen Cabling Connections

Only USB touchscreens are supported in systems with Control Core Services v9.4 or later.

6. Video Configuration
This chapter provides configuration procedures for setting up the video driver.

Configuring Video
The H90 workstation uses a Quad PCIexpress Mini DisplayPort video card for display output.
The user is responsible for configuring quad head video drivers to support multiple monitor
configuration physical layouts. The user also must configure the video card driver for span mode
if Wonderware InTouch software support is required.

NOTE
The Matrox M9120 video card is no longer available as an option in the H90 server
beginning with the release of the HP DL380 Gen10 server.

NOTE
It is inadvisable to disconnect the digital video cables from the NVIDIA graphics
card during operations on a running system. Disconnecting the cable from either
the computer end or the monitor end can cause video resolution problems. The
NVIDIA graphics card will dynamically reset the driver configuration, resulting in a
video frame buffer size that exceeds the monitor resolution. Disconnecting the
video cable on a running system will have a negative effect on the operation of the
H90 workstation. This message will appear repeatedly in the document to advise
you of potential negative conditions.

Installing Control Core Services V9.4 and Later

NOTICE
POTENTIAL DATA LOSS

DO NOT disable the Network Interface Cards (NICs) of the server that
are used for the Foxboro DCS Control Network from the My Network
Connections tool, or from any other application in the Windows
operating system. The Foxboro DCS control system remains active
and online during system stress. Manual disconnection of the server
from the Control Network can disturb the resiliency of the operating
system. A server that connects to the Control Network should not be
offline, asleep, or in a state of hibernation. When the NICs connecting
to the Control Network are disabled or placed offline by the operating
system, the intermediate card driver becomes unstable and the
system may stop responding.
DO NOT turn off the NICs that connect to the Control Network.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in data loss.

Installation for Control Core Services is documented in these manuals:

♦ Control Core Services v9.4
♦ Control Core Services v9.4 Software Installation Guide (B0700SX)
♦ Control Core Services v9.4 Release Notes (B0700SY)
♦ Control Core Services v9.5 Software Installation Guide (B0700TC)
♦ Control Core Services v9.5 Release Notes (B0700TD)
Follow the installation instructions associated with that release.

NOTE
To restore the Windows Server 2016 operating system, you must perform the steps
described in Chapter 3 “Image Recovery, Windows Server 2016 Operating System”
of this document.

Recommendations
It is recommended that you perform these tasks once you complete Control Core Services
installation.
