Educational Leadership and Creative Strategies in Education

The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a triennial study by the
Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) which evaluates 15-
year olds’ proficiency levels in Reading Comprehension, Science and Mathematics.
Results of PISA 2018 showed that out of 79 countries, the Philippines ranked lowest in
Reading Comprehension and second lowest in Science and Mathematics. The next
PISA will be in 2021. As a MED Educational Leadership student, what reforms can you
suggest to improve our ranking? What creative strategies can you suggest to support
your recommended reforms?

Educational Statistics

1. Two applicants are competing for an encoding job which requires a high degree of accuracy. Under time
pressure they are not allowed to edit their work before printing a hard copy. Samples of their work are studied
to measure the number of typing errors. They make per page. The results are as follows:

Encoder A: 2, 0, 3, 0, 5, 8, 10
Encoder B: 3, 2, 4, 3, 5, 5, 6

Find the mean and the standard deviation of the number of typing errors each encoder committed.
Compare the variability of these two sets of data and interpret results. Based on these data, which
encoder should be hired? Support your answer.

MAJOR FIELD OF CONCENTRATION

Strategies for Educational Leaders

1. Differential a manager from a leader. Can someone be a good leader, but not a good
manager? Which is better for the educational setting?
2. Describe the knowledge, skills and attitudes of new millennium:
a) Educational Leaders;
b) Teachers; and,
c) Learners.

Curriculum Theory, Design and Development in Education

One of your most important challenges is coming face to face with many ways your
learners differ. Recognizing these differences is important if you are to provide learning
opportunities that are compatible with their needs. What does the combination of your
4

learner’s test scores and information about self-concept tells you about working with
them? What challenges might it present for you. Elucidate.

Instructional Design and Planning

1. List down the items included in the job description of an instructional leader/school
administrator together with their corresponding percent of working time. Justify the
allocation of time for every activity included.
2. Discuss the antecedents’ requirements that a teacher should possess in order to
effectively perform his/her role as a teacher of learning, as a facilitator of learning, as a
creator of learning materials and as an innovator of learning environments. Be specific
and cite authorities to support your statements.

Evaluation Models and Methods

In the teaching-learning process we conduct evaluation. Teacher Jasmine found out
that her class achievement rate in the core subjects is quite low. She has made the
necessary intervention but still there was no improvement. Being an educational leader,
help Teacher Jasmine along the aspect of instruction and evaluation so that her class
achievement rate will improve meeting the standards.

Human Development and Learning Behavior

1. Trace the different “Dimensions of the Human Development” by presenting it either
using concept map or any appropriate graphic organizer. Discuss your output.
2. What are the point of similarities and differences of the two theories of human
development proposed by Piaget and Vygotsky and cite your personal
assessment about the two human development theories. Use the sample grid
below.
