MPERIATM / VIAjet Photocell/Trigger and Encoder Connections
MPERIA™ VIAjet devices (T-series, L-series, and V-Link) all have encoder and trigger ports (9-pin Female D-sub) at the
device level. The encoder and trigger can be shared among grouped devices on an Installation via the MPERIA™ VIAnet
network. Matthews provides trigger and encoder devices that have been configured, and pre-wired with a 9-pin Male D-sub
connectors. These devices have been tested and conform to CE and other regulatory approvals.
OEMs and Integrators wishing to use other trigger and encoder devices must validate their devices for proper use on MPERIA
VIAjet devices. The following pin-outs are available for qualified use.
All devices can connect two inputs (Trigger 1 and alternate input Trigger 2 for configurable use.), All devices can utilize a
quadrature (to detect speed and direction), or single ended encoder for speed only. The V-link and L-Link can connect two
encoders since it can drive multiple print heads which can be on multiple installations. When two encoders are used, each is
limited to single ended use.

Electrical Interface - VIAjet I/O ports, Photocell & Encoders
Photocell I/O connector INPUTS, on all VIAjet PTM devices (L-Series, T-Series, V-Series)

All VIAjet devices have 2 opto-isolated inputs (generally used as trigger inputs, put can be used as generic I/O).

Photocell 1 - Activate by shorting pin 9 to pin 4 using a POTENTIAL FREE opto-coupler or a bounce-free relay
Photocell 2 - Activate by shorting pin 7 to pin 4 using a POTENTIAL FREE opto-coupler or a bounce-free relay

DO NOT apply any external voltage to these pins.

DO NOT connect anything to unspecified pins.

Photocell I/O connector OUTPUT, on all VIAjet PTM devices (L-Series, T-Series, V-Series)

All VIAjet devices have 1 relay output (generally used as status indication or ink supply activation).

Relay Out: (MAX 24VDC, 0.5A)

Pin 1: Output Normally Open (NO)
Pin 2: Output Common (COM)
Pin 6: Output Normally Closed (NC)

DO NOT apply any external voltage to these pins.

DO NOT connect anything to unspecified pins.
