STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Helping people has always been an innate desire since childhood and growing up into a family
of lawyers I reckoned that the best way to do so was through acquiring a law degree as well. As
a teenager I was so engrossed in my passion for resolving injustice that I set up what I called “
family court” to resolve disputes between my large circle of friends. At home, I would speak up
for my siblings uninvited, over the slightest hint of what I thought at the time was injustice,
although in retrospect I realized those situations were normal everyday parental discipline.
I began my career (during a 1-year post degree internship) working for Nestle as a Solicitor,
dealing with contracts and Corporate matters. I proceeded to gather more experience in diverse
areas of the Nigerian economy as an Administrator, an Attorney, a Human Resources Analyst
and Strategist acquired in various sectors including Food manufacturing, Social Welfare,
Insurance, Oil and Gas Trading, and Shipping.
While I progressed work as a solicitor in Nigeria, I continued to nurse my social welfare side. I
provided short-term services to Charity Edwards Foundation as a liaison officer, involving
several orphanages and a hospice in Lagos. It was a beautiful experience liaising between the
foundation and the care homes to provide health care and food for children. In addition, I had a
work appointment for about a year, that availed me the opportunity of being part of a
programme to train ex militant of the Crude Oil rich Niger Delta as an incentive to the youths to
desist from militancy. The sheer unsustainability of the programme, laced with corruption
illuminated for me the neglect of the vulnerable people of the Niger Delta Area of Nigeria
encouraging me further to pursue a training in Social Work.
I believe that the wealth of knowledge and experience gathered from a Social Work proramme
with a specialization in Social Change combined with my law background and experience will
have a profound advantage in achieving my dream career. Obtaining a degree from the United
States will overall open up many opportunities for me.
With respect to previous trainings, I hold a Masters of Laws Degree from Queen Mary,
University of London, England and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Ambrose Alli University,
Nigeria. I am also a Member of the Nigerian Bar Association, with corporate attorney
experience spanning over a decade. I relocated to the United in 2019 to pursue a Masters
Degree in Social Work, starting with a pathway programme from INTO George Mason
University.
