Q3:
You can find the φ Nu and φ Mu values for ku = 1, 0.8, 0.545, 0.4, 0.2 (very similar to
Q2; use the following force diagram) to develop the interaction diagram. You need
to check the yielding condition for each layer.

Q4:
This question is also very similar to the Q2. For p= 0.01, the steel area, As = 0.01 x bD
= 1500 mm2. Therefore, Ast = Asc = 750 mm2. For these values, you may able to
develop an interaction diagram. Follow the same procedure for other values of p.
If the column need to design for N* = 2250 kN and M* = 200 kNm, (locate this point
into your plot and get the p value for that), p= 0.011 (approximately), then As = 1650
mm2
Q5:
You can use Chart 6.10
Now p = 0.025 (As = 2250 mm2)
M*/bD2 = 4.07 MPa (M* = 110 kNm)
From the chart N*/bD = 12.5
Therefore for As = 2250 mm2, N* = 1125 kN.
Now consider As = 3200 mm2
N*/bD = 17 thus N* = 1530 kN.
So, N*additional = 405 kN.
Q6:
i. k = 0.7 thus Le = 3.64 m
ii. 30.3 Slender column
iii. N*/bD = 23.5, = 0.025, As(total) = 4000 mm2 (use Chart 6.11)
iv. For slender column we need more steel, so try = 0.035 (5600 mm2)
Nc = 9,996 kN
v. b =1.443
vi. Now we can check whether the 5600 mm2 is adequate for N* and bM*. (It
is OK!). So required steel area is 5600 mm2
