Vimshottari Dasa #2: Dasa of

Shubha Grahas
Given here the high level results of the Dasa of the Shubha Grahas.
These results are based on the disposition of the Grahas. The
results should be adjusted based on the Bhava ownership,
placement, aspects and yogas.

1. Guru Dasa
1. Guru is the preceptor of the Grahas. He is the most
benevolent among all the Grahas. Next to him is Shukra.
2. Guru attains Uccha in Karka and Neecha in Makara.
3. The Deva Grahas Surya, Mangal and Chandra are friendly
towards Guru.
4. Among the Asura Grahas, Shani is neutral but causes Neecha
to Guru. Shukra is highly inimical towards Guru but Budha is
neutral. Rahu is inimical towards Guru while Ketu is friendly,
being the Moksha-karaka.

Shubha Guru

1. Shubha Rāśi: Uccha-Rāśi, Sva-Rāśi, Mulatrikona-Rāśi.

2. Shubha Bhava: Trikona, Kona Bhava.
3. Shubha Navāńśa: Uccha-Navāńśa, Sva-Navāńśa.
4. Shubha Results: Acquisition of kingdom, great felicity,
recognition by Government, acquisition of conveyances and
clothes, devotion to deities and Brahmins, happiness from
respect of wife and children, success in religious activities.

Ashubha Guru

1. Ashubha Rāśi: Neecha Rāśi.

2. Ashubha Bhava: Ari, Randhra.
3. Ashubha Sthiti: Drsti-Yuti with Krura grahas, especially
Shani or Rahu. Surya and Mangal are friends of Guru, hence
they give strength to Guru.
4. Ashubha Avastha: Asta, defeated in Graha Yuddha.
5. Ashubha Results: Loss of residential premises, anxiety,
distress to children, loss of cattle, loss in pilgrimages.
6. Special Conditions: The unfavourable results will be felt at
the commencement only. In the later part, there will be
favourable results such as gain of wealth, awards and
recognition by Government.

2. Śukra Dasa
1. Śukra is the karaka for comforts, luxuries and pleasures,
intoxication, ecstasy, delight and pride.
2. Śukra’s Uccha is in Meena and Neecha in Kanya.
3. Śukra’s friends are the Asura Grahas Shani, Budha and Rahu.
Among them Shani attains Uccha in Śukra’s house, hence
highly favorable. Although Budha is Śukra’s friend, but it
causes Neecha to Śukra.
4. Among the Deva Grahas, Chandra and Mangal are neutral
towards Śukra. Surya is truly inimical. Guru is inimical, but
then it causes exaltation to Shukra, hence not detrimental to
him.
5. Śukra is naturally feminine in character. It owns the natural
2nd house, Vrsha and 7th house, Tula.
6. Śukra is the only graha who gives good results in the 12th
house, provided it is well placed. For Mesha Lagna, Shukra
being the 2nd lord in the 12th house, is actually good for
wealth.

Shubha Śukra

1. Shubha Rāśi: Uccha-Rāśi, Sva-Rāśi.

2. Shubha Bhava: Kendra, Trikona
3. Shubha Results: Acquisition of fancy clothes, ornaments,
conveyances, cattle and land etc., sweet preparations every day,
recognition from the sovereign. Luxurious functions of songs
and dances etc. because of the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.
4. Mulatrikona (Tula): Acquisition of a kingdom, acquisition
of a house. Birth of children and grandchildren, celebration of
marriage in the family. Attainment of a high position, like the
Commander of an Army, visits of friends. Recovery of lost
wealth, property, or kingdom.
5. As 9L/10L in 4H: 85–87. Attainment of rulership of a
country, or village. Righteous deeds such as building of
reservoirs and temples. Giving grains etc. in charity.
Availability of sweet preparations every day. Vigor in work.
Name and fame, happiness from wife and children.
Ashubha Śukra

1. Ashubha Bhava: Ari, Randhra, Vyaya.

2. Ashubha Results: Inimical relations with kinsmen,
distress to wife, losses in business, destruction of cattle and
separation from relations.
3. 2L/7L: Physical pains and troubles. Remedy: Shatarudriya,
or Mrityunjaya Japa in the prescribed manner and giving a
cow, or female buffalo in charity.

3. Budha Dasa
1. Budha is a teenager (Kumar), hence childish, playful, fond of
fun and frolic. His nature is to experiment. He does not accept
established norms.
2. Its gets Uccha in own Rasi Kanya and Neecha in Guru’s Rasi
Meena.
3. Budha is the bastard Child of Chandra. Hence, Budha dearly
hates Chandra, although Chandra loves Budha. Shani, Shukra
and Rahu are dear friends of Budha. But Budha being the
representation of Vishnu Avatara, cut Rahu’s head, hence,
inimical towards Rahu. Shani is highly favourable towards
Budha but Budha is neutral to Shani. A old man loves the
company of a young child, but the reverse may not be true.
Shukra considers Budha as its dear friend, but then it attains
Neecha in one of its Rasi. Budha also considers Shukra as its
Dear friend, but is the cause of Śukra’s Neecha. There are many
contradictions in BUdha’s life.
4. Among the Devagrahas, Chandra loves Budha although
Budha hates him. Guru hates Budha but Budha is neutral
towards Guru. Surya is neutral to Budha, but Budha dearly
loves Surya.
5. Budha gives excellent results in the 8th house, provided it is
not afflicted, else, its own significations suffer.

Shubha Budha

1. Shubha Rasi: Uccha-Rasi, Sva-Rasi, Mitra-Rasi.

2. Shubha Bhava: Trikona, Labha Bhava.
3. Shubha Results: Acquisition of wealth, gain of reputation,
improvement in knowledge, benevolence of Government,
auspicious functions, happiness from wife and children, good
health, availability of sweetish preparations, profits in business
etc.
4. In Dharma as Karma Lord under Shubha
Drsti: Aforesaid beneficial results are experienced in full and
there will be great felicity all-round.

Ashubha Budha

1. Ashubha Sthiti: Yuti-Drsti of Krura.

2. Ashubha Results 1: Punishment by Government, inimical
relations with kinsmen, journey to a foreign country,
dependence on others, possibility of urinary troubles.
3. Ashubha Bhava: Ari, Randhra, Vyaya
4. Ashubha Results 2: Loss of wealth due to indulgence in
lascivious activities, possibility of suffering from rheumatism
and jaundice, danger of thefts and malevolence of Government,
loss of land and cattle etc.
5. Special Conditions: Commencement: Gains of wealth,
betterment in the educational sphere, birth of children,
happiness. Middle portion:Recognition from
Government. Last portion: distressful.

4. Chandra Dasa
1. Chandra governs the Mind, that carries all the impressions
from the past lives into this life.
2. Chandra is the only graha whose strength is also measured in
terms of the Paksha Bala in addition to the Sthana Bala. The
Paksha Bala is even more important source of strength
compared to the sthana bala. For Chandra, the Paksha Bala is
also the Chesta Bala. It is said that Chandra’s Paksha Bala adds
strength to all the other Grahas.
3. Chandra owns the 4th house of the natural zodiac, governing
comforts, happiness, heart, vehicles, house and real-estate.
4. Chandra is inimical to none, but Budha, Shukra and Shani
are inimical towards Chandra. Among them Shani is highly
inimical, next to it is Budha, followed by Shukra.
5. Chandra is the fastest among all the grahas, hence it
represents changeableness. Also, its change in tithis represents
this.
6. Among the Dusthanas, occupation of the 8th house is the
worst, that is followed by the 6th house and then the 12th
house.
7. Chandra’s occupation of the Lagna is not considered good
unless it occupies Mesha, Vrshabha or Karka. Evidently, it’s
occupation of the Kendra is also not considered auspicious.
When Chandra occupies the Lagna (other that what mentioned
above), occupation of Papagrahas in the Kendras or the 8th
house can forebode great danger to life.
8. On the other hand, Chandra’s occupation of the Trikona or
the Labha Bhava is considered highly auspicious.

Shubha Chandra

1. Shubha Rasi: Uccha-Rasi, Sva-Rasi.

2. Shubha Bhava: Trikona, Labha Bhava.

6. Shubha Results: Throughout the dasa, there will be
opulence and glory, good fortune, gain of wealth, auspicious
functions at home, dawn of fortune, attainment of a high
position in Government, acquisition of conveyances, clothes,
birth of children and acquisition of cattle.
7. In Dhana Bhava: Extraordinary gains of wealth and
luxuries.

Ashubha Chandra

1. Ashubha Rasi: Neecha Rasi.

2. Ashubha Avastha: Kshina Chandra (waning).
3. Ashubha Results: Loss of wealth.
4. Sahaja Bhava: Fluctuations in the happiness.
5. Krura Yuti-Drsti: Idiocy, mental tension, trouble from
employees and mother, loss of wealth.
6. Kshina Chandra in 6/8/12 or Krura Yuti-Drsti in
6/8/12: Inimical relations with Government, loss of wealth,
distress to mother, similar evil effects.
7. Strong Chandra in 6/8/12: Troubles and good times off
and on.

Thoughts on Vimshottari Dasa #1

1. There are various kinds of results given by a Graha viz., (1)
Natural significations (Graha-janita), (2) Bhava ownership
(Bhavesha-janita), (3) Bhava occupation (Bhava-janita), (4)
Bhavas aspected by the Graha (Drsti-janita), (5) Nakshatra
occupation (Nakshatra-janita), (6) Yogas (Yoga-janita).
2. The results given by Maharishi Parashara in the Dasa results
of Vimshottari Dasa are all Graha-janita. The results based on
other sources such as Bhava ownership etc. should be
understood based on the principles enunciated in the entire
Jyotisha Shastra.
3. The results are modified by the Avastha of the Grahas. Graha
occupying good Rasis, conjunction or aspect by Shubha
Grahas, occupation Shubha Rasi or Navamsa etc. gives positive
results pertaining to whatever results it will give as per various
sources mentioned in #1. On the other hand when the Graha is
weak, occupying a Bad Bhava, conjoined or aspected by Papa-
grahas, Asta, Defeated in Graha Yuddha etc., the results are
invariably negative.
4. Maharishi Parashara says, that the results are given in 1st,
2nd or 3rd part depending on the Drekkana of the graha.
Which results? If the graha gives results in just 1/3rd part, then
who gives the results in the remaining 2/3rd part? In my
humble opinion, Maharishi Parashara refers to the results
arising due to the natural significations (Graha-janita). The
other results are given in the remaining periods. The sequence
is reversed when the Graha is retrograde. The results of Rahu-
Ketu are always reckoned in a reverse manner as they are
always Retrograde.
5. The results are impacted by the good or bad placement of the
Dasa lord at the commencement of the Dasa. However, it may
not be practical as incorrect use of the Ayanamsa, the length of
the year etc. can move the starting date and time by days and
months.

BPHS 47.3–4. General Results The effects of the Dasas of the

Grahas are in accordance with their strength. The effects of a
Graha in the first Dreshkana are realised at the commencement
of the Dasha. The Graha in the second Dreshkana makes its
effects felt in the middle of the Dasha. The effects of the Graha in
the third Dreshkana are experienced at the end of the Dasha. If
the Graha is retrograde, these effects would be in the reverse
order. The Dasha effects of Rahu and Ketu, who are always
retrograde, will always be realised in the reverse order.

BPHS 47.5–6. Commencement of the Dasa The effects are

favourable, if at the commencement of the Dasha the Dasha Lord
is in Lagna, in his exaltation, own, or a Shanta Rāśi. The results
are unfavourable, if the Dasha Lord is in Ari, Randhra, or Vyaya
Bhava, in his debilitation, or in an inimical Rāśi.

The Dasa of the Krura Grahas

 In my humble opinion, the right way to study the Dasa is to
study the Dasas of the Krura Grahas and Shubha Grahas
separately. This helps in accurately assessing the results of one
Krura graha vis-a-vis another Krura Graha.

Special Definitions for the Nodes

 Uccha, Neecha, Mulatrikona and Sva Rāśis (1) Rahu’s
Uccha Rāśi — Vrishabha. (2) Ketu’s Uccha Rāśi — Vrschika. (3)
Rahu’s Mulatrikona- Mithuna, (4) Ketu’s Mulatrikona —
Dhanu. (5) Rahu’s own Rāśi — Kumbha. (6) Ketu’s own Rāśi —
Vrschika.

 Differences in opinion among other Sages: (1) Rahu’s

own Rāśi — Kanya. (2) Ketu’s own Rāśi — Meena.

Dasa of the Krura Grahas

 All the Krura Grahas give favourable results in Sva-Rasi,
Uccha Rasi and Mulatrikona Rasi.

 Some grahas give good results in Kendra, some in Dhana,

some in Sahaja and some in Labha.

 Among the Upachayas, although most Krura grahas give

good results in the Sahaja and Labha Bhava, some with and
some without Shubha Drsti. Regarding 6th house, only Ketu
gives good results here.

 No Krura Grahas give good results give good results when

occupying Kona (5,9). Ketu is the only Krura Graha which gives
good results in Kona.

 However aspect or conjunction of the Kona lords can give

blessings, provided there is other Shubha Drsti or Yuti. The
conjunction of the Krura Grahas should not make the Kona
lords weak, hence there should be other Shubha Drsti, or they
should occupy a Shubha Rasi or Navamsa.

 No Krura Graha gives good results when occupying Randhra

and Vyaya Bhava.

 In addition to Randhra and Vyaya, Ketu gives bad results

even in Dhana Bhava.

 When the Krura Grahas are aspected by Shubha grahas,

much of their evil results are reduced.

 All the Grahas give results based on their natural

significations. There are also some general shubha results such
as blessings of a good family, wife, children and also wealth.
