AN ARCHITECT’S VIEW TOWARDS THE NEW NORMAL

As far as we know COVID-19 is a very serious pandemic in our time specially the range of the death rate
is still rising and there is still no cure. Affecting every country around the world many scientist and
medical practitioners are still prioritizing to find a vaccine for this virus. Many professionals and
volunteers make their way to contribute in reducing the case by being one of the front-liners and mostly
of every households in our community are following the implemented laws made by the national
government and each respective municipalities.

As a professional architect aspirant, It is the duty of our profession to observe functionality,

comfortability, strength and resiliency of the structures of the settlers/clients in order for them to enjoy
their individual spaces without any harm nor disturbances from its nearby environment. Through
applying our architectural side in observing towards on how the government are taking actions on this
pandemic, it is a good way for us aspirants to explore, gain knowledge and observe the characteristics
that we want to aim to create a habitual spaces for the settlers.

In our observance to the rating of the COVID-19 through the Department of Health. The cases are still
rising having the result doubled of most of the days and it worries each individual. One of the problem
that I have observed on this type of virus is the test results are very late to found out. Causing a patient
late to be cured and mostly resulted to suddenly death. That is why it is a good decision by the
government to appoint a test center on every region so that we can easily test out suspects and get
them cured early.

In terms of the health facilities in each provinces, I have observed that mostly of the hospitals were not
COVID-19 ready. Proving the statement that some patients were not entertained by some hospitals
leading also into sudden death. The problem might be lack of facilities & medical kits, medical
practitioners or they were afraid that it might spread because they are lack of knowledge on how to cure
this pandemic since it is a new type of virus. Since it is a very urgent type of case that can be easily to
spread out, It is a clever decision not just by the national government but also some municipalities to
construct an emergency health facilities that was specially made for the COVID-19 patients with the
accordance to the suggested planning of our fellow professionals and also by the law. Ergonomics and
proxemics are one of the most important studies that we should apply in COVID-19 planning. From
social distancing to planning to avoid the rising of pandemic cases.

As an architectural student and also as a concerned citizen. It is also our duty to follow the laws and
contribute to our community through the knowledge that we have learned from our books and classes.
We must also make our days more productive through helping in our community.
