1. Introduction
The Integlex fire alarm system is a flexible analog addressable fire alarm system that meets the following US
standards. In addition to spot type analog and conventional detectors, the Integlex fire alarm system can be
equipped with a dedicated type of Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus – VESDA LaserCOMPACT LP* on its
signal line circuit directly.
Additional functionality such as network function has been integrated into this system to make it suitable for
various types of applications.
*Note: The VESDA LaserCOMPACT LP is a product of Vision Fire & Security.

2. Standards to be complied
The Integlex fire alarm system complies with following standards.
NFPA (NFC) 12: CO2 Extinguishing Systems (High Pressure Only)

3. Features
3.1. Ample display of information on LCD
Each fire alarm control panel and LCD type remote annunciator has a 30-letter 6 4-line large-size LCD. The LCD
displays, in addition to basic information such as address numbers and classifications of active devices, the total
number of active signals per signal type, identification of the first and the last fire alarm signals, and current
analog values (i.e. smoke density and temperature). (See Figure 2 in section 6.1.1. for display details.)

3.2. Network functionality

A Local Area Network (LAN) can be configured with multiple nodes (i.e. multiple Fire Alarm Control Panels
(FACPs) and System Monitoring Programs (SMPs)).
1) Maximum 64 nodes available on the network
A maximum of 64 nodes can be networked on a daisy-chained LAN system, allowing multiple FACPs and
SMPs to be flexibly located based on conditions of the particular application. (The LAN is called NohmiNET.)
2) Grouping
Network nodes can belong to a maximum of 64 groups. Event information and operation of system control
switches are commonly shared within the same group only (i.e. nodes within a group are “peer-to-peer”).
Therefore, each FACP and SMP is able to control only specific information.
3) Master group and local groups
Nodes belonging to group 0 are the masters for nodes of other groups on the network.
The master FACPs and SMPs are able to receive event information from all groups on the network, and the
operation of system control switches of master FACPs and SMPs applies to all nodes in all groups.
4) Fiber optic system for network
A fiber optic system is available for the network.

3.3. Easy system expansion

With the optional printed circuit assembly “Sub Control Unit (SCU)”, up to 3 loops (1 loop consisting of 255
addresses) can be added for system expansion.

3.4. Versatile data settings

Each FACP contains built-in flash memory. Database download/upload can be carried out between the FACP
and a personal computer. The database includes various settings such as Notification Appliance Circuit (NAC)
codes, pre-signal, positive alarm sequence, alarm verification, interlocking, etc.

3.5. Integrated VESDA LaserCOMPACT LP

A dedicated type of Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus - VESDA LaserCOMPACT LP has been integrated
into the system. The VESDA LaserCOMPACT LP can be directly connected to the signal line (called Integlex
loop) as an analog detector. The VESDA LaserCOMPACT LP is able to detect smoke density as low as 0.005%/
m and is suitable for computer rooms and clean rooms. Also, the VESDA LaserCOMPACT LP is suitable for
applications where ordinary spot type detectors are not suitable (e.g. places where detectors should not be
visible). (See section 5.3. for further details.)

3.6. Multiple detection levels of detectors

Each type of spot analog detector has three threshold levels. Both alarm notification and interlocking with output
devices are available at each threshold level.
The VESDA LaserCOMPACT LP has four threshold levels for alarm notification and interlocking. (See section
6.2.1. for further details.)

3.7. Event log

Each FACP has a function to record and store all events that the FACP receives. A FACP is able to store up to
1000 events. The recorded events can be cleared by menu operation on the LCD. However, the event record is
backed-up so that the same 1000 events can be downloading from the FACP and displayed on a PC. (This is
known as the Shadow Event Log.)

3.8. Day/Night/Holiday monitoring level change-over

Detector sensitivity settings can be programmed per day of the week to change between day and nighttime
settings, or the settings can be kept at high sensitivity all day. (Setting the detectors to monitor with higher
sensitivities during the nighttime and all day leads to higher reliability.)
Also, a maximum of 20 days can be configured for holidays. The detectors’ sensitivities for these holidays can be
programmed to change between daytime and nighttime sensitivities, or to keep the sensitivities high all day.

3.9. Low temperature trouble function

Analog heat detectors initiate trouble signals when their monitored values are less than 4˚C.
This is displayed on the FACP as abnormal low temperature trouble. This function provides notification of the
possibility of freezing at that location.
*Note: The sensitivity for this function is fixed for 4˚C, and does not change.

3.10. Auto program

This function generates data by collecting IDs from devices which are actually connected to signal lines. The
system can be operated without downloading data during installation.
If the data has been downloaded into the FACP, implementing this function provides notification of differences
between data in the FACP and data collected from actually connected devices.

3.11. Dedicated control function for suppression system (Suppression Zone)

The Integlex fire alarm system is able to dedicate a specific type of interlocking to activating suppression systems.
Having multiple active signals from input zone(s), Bell, Horn, Strobe, Power Shutdown, HVAC Shutdown, and
Suppression System Activation are controlled at pre-determined stages. (See section 6.22.4. for further details.)

6. Functionality
6.1. System administration numbers
The Integlex fire alarm system has the following system administration numbers.
6.1.1. Node numbers
A maximum of 64 nodes (i.e. FACPs and SMPs) can be networked. Node numbers are the numbers by which
each node on the network can be identified. Therefore, each node must be assigned a unique node number
from 1 to 64.
Node numbers are displayed on the FACP, LCD-RA, and SMP as [N00] (e.g. [N21] means node number 21.)
(Refer to Figure 2 below.)
When there is only 1 FACP (i.e. no network), the node number of the FACP is 1 (i.e. it is displayed as [N01]).

Building A Room Number 505
09:00AM 04/28/00(N21-2068)Z090

Figure 2: Example of display on LCDs of FACP and LCD-RA

6.1.2. Group numbers
The nodes on a network belong to maximum 64 groups. The available group numbers are 0 to 99. Any desired
64 numbers within that range can be used. The group numbers to be used may not be consecutive, so that
undesired numbers can be skipped (e.g. group numbers to be used: 0, 1, 4, 6, 7, 11, 14, 20, 33, 34, 47, 58, 66).
The group numbers are not displayed on the LCDs of FACP and LCD-RA.
Refer to section 6.40.1. for further details on group functionality.

6.1.3. Loop numbers (Integlex loop numbers)

Each FACP is able to have up to 4 loops. Each loop consists of 255 addresses. Therefore, a maximum of 1,020
addresses are available per FACP.

6.1.4. Address numbers

Address numbers are identification numbers that are assigned to addressable devices. Each addressable de-
vice must be assigned a unique address number between 1 and 255, for each loop.
The address numbers and loop numbers are displayed as combined numbers on FACP, LCD-RA, and SMP.
For example, the address number 68 of loop no. 2 is displayed as [2068]. (Refer to Figure 2 above.)

6.1.5. Conventional zone numbers (Z000 to Z500)

Conventional zones are areas that consist of addressable devices connected to loops of a FACP. The zones are
also used for interlocking between addressable input and output devices. (See section 6.23. for further details.)
The maximum number of conventional zones a FACP may have is 501 (i.e. Z000 to Z500), regardless of the
number of loops and addresses the FACP has.
The zone numbers are displayed as [Z000] (e.g. [Z090] is zone number 90). (Refer to Figure 2 above.)

6.1.6. Inter-Panel zone numbers (Z600 to Z699: IP00 to IP99)

Inter-Panel (IP) zones are areas that consist of addressable devices connected to multiple FACPs on the net-
work. The IP zones are also used for interlocking between addressable devices connected to multiple FACPs.
(See section 6.23.5. for further details.)
A maximum of 100 IP zones can be configured per system (i.e. IP00 to IP99), regardless of the number of
FACPs on the network.
The IP zones are displayed as [IP00] (i.e. IP00 to IP99) or [Z000] (i.e. Z600 to Z699) on the system.

6.2. Types of input signals

Input signals in this system are classified in Alarm, Supervisory, Trouble, and Other. Therefore, one of these
types of signals shall be assigned for respective addressable input/initiating devices.

6.2.1. Alarm signals

Alarm signals consist of pre-alarm signals and alarm signals. Pre-alarm signals and alarm signals are listed in
Table 2 below.

Table 2: Types of alarm signals

*Note: 1) When the Alarm of an analog smoke detector, the AlarmF1 and the AlarmF2 of VESDA
LaserCOMPACT LP are configured as Supervisory signals (see section 6.2.2. below), these signals
are operated as Supervisory signals, not as Alarm signals.
2) The Active signal of an input type addressable module is operated as an Alarm signal only when
“Alarm” classification type is configured for the module. (See Table 3 of section 6.18. for details.)

6.2.2. Supervisory signals

Supervisory signals are intended for notifying off-normal conditions and system restoration to normal. Supervi-
sory signals are typically used for the valve supervisory switch, water level indicator, and low-air pressure switch
on a dry-pipe sprinkler system. In addition, the alarm signal of smoke detector can also be programmed for the
supervisory signal according to the project site condition.

6.2.3. Trouble signals

Trouble signals are intended for notifying of trouble occurrence. Trouble consists of device trouble and system
trouble.
*Note: When pre-alarms of an analog smoke detector are configured as “Operated as Trouble”, the pre-alarms
are operated as both pre-alarm signals and trouble signals.

6.2.4. Other signals

Other signals are basically intended for system input signals such as Drill, Silence, System Reset, and Silent
Input. This type of signals can be assigned only for the input type addressable modules. (See section 6.17. of
Table 3.)

6.3. Threshold setting ranges of analog detectors and VESDA LaserCOMPACT LP

As described in the Table 2 above, three threshold settings are available for each type of analog detector, and
four threshold settings are available for the VESDA LaserCOMPACT LP.
The thresholds can be configured in pre-determined ranges.
According to the following order of thresholds, a threshold value shall be configured higher than lower threshold
values.
Alert < Action < Alarm/AlarmF1 < AlarmF2

6.4. System control switches on a fire alarm control panel

The fire alarm control panel is equipped with the following four system control switches on the MCU. (See
Figure 3.)

6.4.1. ACKNOWLEDGE
This is to acknowledge the event that is displayed on the LCD, and thereby to silence the audible device of the
FACP being activated by the event. If the event has already been acknowledged by this switch, re-pressing this
switch scrolls the LCD displays.

6.4.2. SILENCE
This is to deactivate notification appliances.

6.4.3. DRILL
This is to activate all pre-programmed notification appliances together.

6.4.4. SYSTEM RESET

This is to reset the system.

6.5. Status LEDs of FACP

The fire alarm control panel is equipped with the following status LEDs on the MCU. (See Figure 3 below.)

6.5.1. AC POWER lamp (green)

This LED turns on while AC power is supplied. It turns off while the system is operated by standby power (i.e. a
battery).

6.5.2. STANDBY POWER lamp (green)

This LED turns on while the system is operated by standby power. It turns off while the system is operated by AC
power.

6.5.3. ALARM lamp (red)

This LED starts blinking upon receiving the Alarm signal, AlarmF1 signal, AlarmF2 signal, or Active signal
described in the section 6.2.1. Pressing the ACKNOWLEDGE switch causes the LED display to change from
blinking to continuous-On.

6.5.4. PRE-ALARM lamp (red)

This LED starts blinking upon receiving the pre-alarm signals (i.e. Alert and Action) described in the section
6.2.1. Pressing the ACKNOWLEDGE switch causes the LED display to change from blinking to continuous-On.

6.5.5. SUPERVISORY lamp (yellow)

This LED starts blinking upon receiving a supervisory signal as described in section 6.2.2. Pressing the AC-
KNOWLEDGE switch causes the LED display to change from blinking to continuous-On.

6.5.6. TROUBLE lamp (yellow)

This LED starts blinking upon receiving a trouble signal as described in section 6.2.3. Pressing the ACKNOWL-
EDGE switch causes the LED display to change from blinking to continuous-On.

6.5.7. SILENCED lamp (yellow)

While the system is in the Silence OFF condition, pressing the SILENCE switch causes this LED to turn ON.

Figure 3: Front panel of fire alarm control panel

6.6. Output control switches of Output Control Unit

Each of Output Control Unit Wet Type (OCU-W) and Output Control Unit Dry Type (OCU-D) is equipped with 8
output control switches. Operating output control switches activate or deactivate the corresponding outputs of
the unit. When the switches are operated while the corresponding outputs are deactivated, the outputs start their
activation. Conversely, pressing the corresponding switches while the outputs are in an activated state causes
them to become deactivated. (See Figure 4 and Figure 5 below.)
However, the switch operation is not effective if any of following configuration have been made for the corresponding
output. (i.e. The output is not activated nor deactivated by operating the switch.)
1) If no configuration data has been programmed for the output.
2) If any of “Suppression” type classifications and “Status Zones” has been configured for the output. (See
sections 6.19. and 6.20.)
3) If the zone attribute for the top/1st zone of the output is any one of following: [Suppression], [120ppm], [60ppm],
and [Continuous]. (See section 6.22.)
4) If “device disable” has been programmed for the output in configuration data.

6.7. Status indication LEDs on Output Control Unit

The Output Control Unit is equipped with the following status LEDs. (See Figure 4 and Figure 5 below.)

6.7.1. Output status LEDs (red)

Each of Output Control Unit Wet Type (OCU-W) and Output Control Unit Dry Type (OCU-D) is equipped with 8
output status LEDs. The output status LEDs stay ON while the corresponding outputs are activated. The LEDs
stay OFF while the corresponding outputs are deactivated.
The LEDs flash while the activation of corresponding outputs is reserved. The reserve condition occurs in the
following cases;
1) An OCU output is activated by an input signal that has been configured to interlock with the output. Subse-
quently, the output is deactivated by operating the corresponding output control switch of the OCU. There-
fore, the output’s activation is reserved. (i.e. Operating the same output control switch re-activate the OCU
output.)
2) An OCU output with a notification appliance classification is activated by an input signal that has been config-
ured to interlock with the output. Subsequently, the output is deactivated by operating the SILENCE switch of
the FACP. Therefore, the activation of the output is reserved. (i.e. Operating the SILENCE switch of the FACP
re-activates the OCU output.)
3) An OCU output is activated. Subsequently, the output is deactivated by disabling the output in LCD Menu of
the FACP. Therefore, the activation of the output is reserved. (i.e. Removing the disable re-activates the OCU

output.)
4) An input signal to activate an OCU-W output was initiated. However, a short circuit has been detected in the
wiring of the output. Therefore, the output is not activated and its activation is reserved. (i.e. Removing the
short circuit activates the OCU output.)

6.7.2. Trouble status LEDs (yellow): OCU-W only

OCU-W is equipped with 8 trouble status LEDs. The LEDs stay ON while the corresponding outputs are having
short or open circuits in their wiring.

The Zone Indication Unit (ZIU) is equipped with the following status LEDs. (See Figure 7.)

6.10.1. Zone alarm status LEDs

The ZIU is equipped with 16 zone nameplates, and each nameplate has a red LED. When a configured zone
initiates a fire alarm signal, the corresponding LED of that zone nameplate turns on (i.e. stays ON continuously)
to provide notification of the zone alarm status. (See Figure 7 below.)

6.10.2. POWER LED

The ZIU is also equipped with a green LED for power supply status. The LED turns on (i.e. stays ON continu-
ously) while 24VDC is supplied for ZIU operation. (See Figure 7 below.)

6.11. Buzzer silence switch of LED type remote annunciator - Zone Indication Unit
The ZIU is equipped with a buzzer and a buzzer silence switch. The buzzer activates when any alarm signal is
received from the configured zones. The buzzer is deactivated by operating either the ACKNOWLEDGE switch
on the FACP or the LCD-RA and / or the buzzer silence switch on the ZIU. (See Figure 7 below.)

The Zone Output Control Unit (ZOCU) is equipped with the following control switches. (See the Figure 8 below.)

6.12.1. Zone output control switches

The ZOCU is equipped with 8 zone output control switches. Pressing a zone output control switch activates all
the addressable output devices in the corresponding zone while the zone output status LED alongside the
switch extinguishes. (See the section 6.14. for the LED.) Conversely, pressing the switch deactivates all the
addressable output devices in the corresponding zone while the LED alongside the switch stays ON.
Pre-signal, PAS, and output delay are not effective even if configured for the outputs. (i.e. Pressing zone control
switches activates corresponding outputs immediately.)

6.12.2. Buzzer silence switch

The ZOCU is equipped with a buzzer and a buzzer silence switch. The buzzer activates when any of 8 zone
output activation status LEDs activates. The buzzer is deactivated by operating either the ACKNOWLEDGE
switch on the FACP or the LCD-RA and / or the buzzer silence switch on the ZOCU.

6.13. Status LEDs of Zone Output Control Unit

6.13.1. Zone output status LEDs
The Zone Output Control Unit is equipped with 8 zone output status LEDs (red). The LEDs stay ON while any
addressable output devices in corresponding zones activate.

6.22. Zone attributes

One of the following zone attributes shall be configured per conventional zone. The default setting is “No Attribute”.

6.22.1. System NAC Code Type

All MCU wet and dry outputs with NAC type classifications belonging to the zones for which this attribute is
programmed activate according to the configured NAC code. (See section 6.25. for NAC codes.)
All outputs with NAC type classifications belonging to these zones CAN be deactivated/silenced by pressing the
SILENCE switches of FACP and LCD-RA.
*Note: Outputs of addressable modules are activated as “Continuously ON” regardless of the NAC code of the
attribute setting.

6.22.2. Continuous
All outputs belonging to the zones for which this attribute is programmed activate as “Continuously ON”.
All outputs with NAC type classifications belonging to these zones CANNOT be deactivated/silenced by press-
ing the SILENCE switches of FACP and LCD-RA.

6.22.3. 60 pulse
All outputs with NAC type classifications belonging to the zones for which this attribute is programmed activate
at “60 pulses per minute”. Outputs with any other type classifications belonging to these zones activate as
“Continuously ON”.
This attribute is used for suppression zone interlocking. (See section 6.15.4. for suppression zone interlocking.)
All outputs with NAC type classifications belonging to these zones CANNOT be deactivated/silenced by press-
ing the SILENCE switches of FACP and LCD-RA.
*Note: Outputs of addressable modules are activated as “Continuously ON” regardless of the 60 pulse attribute
setting.

6.22.4. 120 pulse

All outputs with NAC classifications belonging to the zones for which this attribute is programmed activate at
“120 pulses per minute”. Outputs with any other type classifications belonging to these zones activate as “Con-
tinuously ON”.
All outputs with NAC type classifications belonging to these zones CANNOT be deactivated/silenced by press-
ing the SILENCE switches of FACP and LCD-RA.
*Note: Outputs of addressable modules are activated as “Continuously ON” regardless of the 120 pulse attribute
setting.

6.22.5. Suppression
This attribute is used only for establishing a suppression zone. See section 6.23.4. for details of suppression
zones.
All outputs with NAC type classifications belonging to these zones CANNOT be deactivated/silenced by press-
ing the SILENCE switches of FACP and LCD-RA.

6.22.6. No Attribute
All the outputs belonging to the zones for which this attribute is programmed activate as “Continuously ON”.
All outputs with NAC type classifications belonging to these zones CAN be deactivated/silenced by pressing the
SILENCE switches of FACP and LCD-RA.
When multiple zones have been configured for a threshold, module, or output, their operation shall be based on
following ranking of priorities.
Suppression > 120 pulse > 60 pulse > Continuous > System NAC Code Type > No Attribute
*Note: •The zone attribute of IP zones is fixed as “System NAC Code Type”.
•The zone attribute of Z000 is fixed as “System NAC Code Type”.

6.23. Interlocking
6.23.1. Interlocking by conventional zones
As mentioned in the above section, a conventional zone is an area consisting of one or more addressable
devices connected to a FACP. Up to 501 conventional zones (i.e. Z000 to Z500) are configurable per system/
FACP.
In a conventional zone, activation of any addressable input device interlocks/activates all addressable output
devices within the same zone.
In this case, the wet and dry outputs of the MCU are included as addressable output devices.

Except the limitations of zone setting per addressable device in section 6.21.2., any number of addressable
devices can be configured in a zone. However, only 1 unit of addressable module for initiating device for which
alarm verification time has been configured can be configured per zone. (See section 6.24.)

6.23.2. Interlocking by cross zone

Cross zones are typically used for activating suppression systems. Activation of addressable input devices in
two different zones (i.e. input zones) causes addressable output devices in the output zone(s) to become acti-
vated.
Only conventional zones can be configured for the input zones. Conventional zones and IP zones can be
configured for the output zones.
•Example:
•Address no. 1035 Analog smoke detector [Alarm] level 9 Configured for zone 014
•Address no. 1036 Analog smoke detector [Alarm] level 9 Configured for zone 015
•Address no. 1078 Wet output type addressable module 9 Configured for zone 025
Zone 014 and zone 015 are configured as input zones in the cross zone set, and zone 025 is configured as an
output zone in the cross zone set. In this case, the receipt of active signals from zone 014 and 015 activates the
addressable device in zone 025 for the intended interlocking.

that may occur.
(2) Alarm verification time shall not be configured for any addressable module for initiating device in
input zones. (See section 6.24.)

A maximum of 10 sets of cross zones are configurable per system/FACP. A maximum of 5 zones can be
programmed for output zones per set.

6.23.3. Interlocking by counting zone

Counting zones are also typically used for activating suppression systems. Activation of a pre-programmed
number of addressable input devices within an input zone causes addressable output devices in the output
zone(s) to become activated.
Only conventional zones can be configured for the input zone. Conventional zones and IP zones can be config-
ured for the output zones.
•Example:
•Address no. 1028 Analog smoke detector [Alarm] level 9 Configured for zone 021
•Address no. 1029 Analog smoke detector [Alarm] level 9 Configured for zone 021
•Address no. 1067 Wet output type addressable module 9 Configured for zone 034
Zone 021 is configured as an input zone of counting zone set, and zone 034 is configured as an output zone of
the counting zone set. The count number for input zone 021 is 2. With this configuration, the receipt of two active
signals from addressable input devices in zone 021 causes addressable output devices in zone 034 to become
activated.

6.23.4. Interlocking by suppression zone

The suppression zone interlocking described below has become popular in the USA.
As suppression zones are intended for activating suppression systems, cross zones or counting zones are used
for the input zone(s). The output zone(s) for counting zone(s) or cross zone(s) is/are configured as suppression
zone(s). That is, the output zone(s) is configured with the zone attribute, “Suppression”, described in 6.22.5.
Below, Figure 18 shows the timing operation of suppression zone interlocking.

2) The following steps (1) to (6) are implemented in a suppression zone (i.e. output zone) upon receiving the 2nd
active signal in the same zone in the case of a counting zone, or an active signal from another zone in the
case of a cross zone.
(1) The output with “Bell Circuit” classification is deactivated.
(2) The output with “Power Shutdown” classification is activated.
(3) The output with “HVAC (i.e. Heat, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) Shutdown” classification is activated.
(4) Outputs with “Release Circuit” classification and Blank Classifications with suppression type classifica-
tion are activated.
(5) The output with “Horn Circuit” classification is activated as “Continuously ON”.
(6) The output with “Strobe Circuit” classification is activated.
3) If delay times have been programmed for outputs with “Release Circuit” classification and for Blank Classifi-
cations with suppression type classification, those outputs are not activated, and therefore the delay timers
are started. Also, the above steps (5) and (6) are not implemented, and instead, the following operation is
performed.
(7) The output with “Horn Circuit” classification is activated at 120ppm.
While the delay timers are operating, the abort activation function (see section 6.32. for details) is
effective.
4) When the delay timers for outputs with Release Circuit” classification and Blank Classifications with suppres-
sion type classification have expired, the following operations are implemented.
(8) Outputs with “Release Circuit” classification and Blank Classifications with suppression type classifica-
tion are activated.
(9) Activation of the output with “Horn Circuit” classification is changed from 120ppm to “Continuously ON”.
(10) The output with “Strobe Circuit” classification is activated.

*Note: 1) Outputs with “Bell Circuit” and “Horn Circuit” classifications must be the MCU’s wet outputs, MCU’s
dry outputs, OCU-W’s wet outputs, or OCU-D’s dry outputs. Wet and dry output type addressable
modules are NOT operated as described above.
2) Any outputs other than the above mentioned classifications are activated as “Continuously ON”.

6.23.5. Interlocking by IP zones

As mentioned in above sections, an IP zone is an Inter-Panel area for interlocking and is constructed between
multiple FACPs on a network. Regardless of the number of FACPs on the network, a maximum of 100 IP zones
(i.e. zone 600 to 699:IP00 to IP99) are available on the network.
The system of interlocking IP zones is basically the same as that of conventional zones. When an addressable
input device in an IP zone activates, regardless of the grouping on the network (see section 6.40.1. for details of
grouping), all addressable output devices in the IP zone activate. (See Figure 21 below.)

6.23.6. General zones Z000 and Z600/IP00

There are two special zones. One is conventional zone Z000, and the other is IP zone Z600 (i.e. IP00).
Conventional zone Z000 is the general zone for all other conventional zones. This means that activation of any
addressable input device in Z000 interlocks/activates all addressable output devices in all other conventional
zones. Vice-versa, activation of any addressable input device in any conventional zone interlocks/activates all
addressable output devices in Z000.
IP zone Z600 (i.e. IP00) is the general zone for all other IP zones. The functionality is the same as that of
conventional general zone Z000; activation of any addressable input device in Z600 (i.e. IP00) interlocks/acti-
vates all addressable output devices in all other IP zones, and activation of any addressable input device in any
IP zone interlocks/activates all addressable output devices in IP zone Z600 (i.e. IP00).

6.24. Alarm verification

According to UL standards, the following alarm verification is applicable for two-wire smoke detectors connected
to an initiating device’s addressable module.

60 seconds (fixed)

Time

A B C D

Figure 28: Alarm verification according to UL standards

• Point A: Alarm verification starts upon receipt of an active signal from the addressable module for initiating
device (i.e. when conventional smoke detectors, connected to the addressable module, initiate
an active signal upon detecting smoke).
• Point B: The addressable module is reset after a fixed time passes. The conventional two-wire smoke
detectors are reset by turning off power to them (i.e. the conventional detectors resume monitoring).
• Point C: Alarm verification confirmation is started.
• Point A to C: A fire alarm signal is not initiated during this period. The time from A to C is the alarm verification
time (i.e. 30 seconds or 55 seconds) value that is configured in the FACP. The time from A to C is
called the Alarm Verification Period.
• Point C to D: During alarm verification confirmation, an alarm signal is initiated and the alarm verification
management is ended as soon as an active signal is received from the same address as the
addressable module.
An alarm signal is also initiated by the addressable module when an alarm signal is received from
another addressable device.
The time from C to D is called the Confirmation Period. The period is fixed at 60 seconds.
• Point D: During the confirmation period, if no active signal is received, the alarm verification management
is ended at point D.

If an active signal is received from an addressable module for initiating device after alarm verification management
has already been ended, alarm verification is restarted from the beginning (i.e. Point A).

Note that the following items are stipulated in NFPA72 and UL standards.

1) Alarm verification shall not be applied to heat detectors and waterflow detectors (i.e. Waterflow Monitor in the
Integlex system.)
2) Smoke detectors for which alarm verification has been configured shall neither be used in a counting zone nor
cross zone for activating suppression systems.

Due to system functionality, only one addressable module for initiating device for which alarm verification has
been configured shall be used per zone. Use of multiple addressable modules for initiating device with an alarm
verification feature is prohibited within a zone.
(A single addressable module for initiating device is able to have a maximum of 20 units of two-wire smoke
detectors. Therefore, although it depends on the height of the site, it may be possible to monitor 20,000ft2 with
a single addressable module for initiating device.)
For analog detectors, according to the application site conditions, alarm verification times in the range of 5 to 55
seconds can be configured.

regardless of the configuration of NAC codes. Therefore, notification appliances that possess NAC
code activation functionality must be used if the notification appliances connected to addressable
modules have to be activated according to the selected NAC code.

6.26. Pre-signal
The pre-signal function delays the activation of outputs with NAC type classifications.
Pre-signal can be enabled or disabled for each addressable output device with NAC type classification.
The delay is implemented using a dedicated timer. The configurable time range of the pre-signal timer is 0, or 60
to 180 seconds per FACP/system. A pre-signal timer can be applied to each address.
The pre-signal timer is started not only by Alarm, AlarmF1, and AlarmF2 signals but also by Alert, Action, and
Active signal of input type addressable module if any interlocking with addressable output devices having NAC
type classifications were configured for those signals.
When the pre-signal timer is cancelled, intended addressable output devices are activated when any of following
conditions occurs.
1) If there is an Alarm or AlarmF1 at any address or zone after the pre-signal timer is started.
2) If there is another interlocking reason/factor for addressable outputs with NAC type classifications at any
address or zone.
In this case, the addressable output devices with NAC type classifications, which are interlocked with this
interlocking reason/factor, are activated immediately even if pre-signal enable setting has been configured for
them. (i.e. The pre-signal timer does not start.)
*Note: The pre-signal timer for the address which was cancelled or expired is not restarted until the system is
reset.
3) Operating the DRILL switch for Drill On.
While the pre-signal timer is counting, if the SILENCE switch is operated to switch Silence ON, the counting of
the timer is paused. Timer counting is resumed from the paused moment by operating the SILENCE switch to
Silence OFF.

6.27. Positive Alarm Sequence (PAS)

The Positive Alarm Sequence (PAS) cancels the pre-signal timer.
The operation of PAS is as follows.
(1)The FACP starts monitoring if the ACNOWLEDGE switch is pressed when an interlocking reason/factor for
addressable output devices with NAC type classifications occurs.
(2)If the ACKNOWLEDGE switch is NOT pressed within 15 seconds, the pre-signal timer is cancelled, so that
addressable output devices with NAC type classifications are activated.
(3)If the ACKNOWLEDGE switch is pressed within 15 seconds, the pre-signal timer is started. In this case,
operation of the ACNOWLEDGE switch is applicable to any event.
(4)If the activation of addressable output devices with NAC type classifications interlocked with the Alarm signal
is delayed by the pre-signal timer, the activation of the MCU’s and OCU’s wet and/or dry outputs, for which
status zone Z701 (i.e. Fire alarm status) is configured, is also delayed for the same period as the configured
pre-signal time.
In this case, if the pre-signal timer is cancelled, the delay of activation of the MCU’s and OCU’s wet and dry
outputs having status zone Z701 is also cancelled.
*Note: 1) If an addressable module input type with “PAS Inhibit” classification for any address in any zone is/has
been activated, regardless of the PAS enable/disable setting, the pre-signal timer is cancelled, and
therefore, the intended addressable output devices with NAC type classifications are activated.
2) If a condition to cancel the pre-signal timer occurs while the FACP is monitoring the ACKNOWLEDGE
switch operation, the PAS is also cancelled, and therefore, intended addressable output devices with
NAC type classifications are activated immediately.
3) The PAS is started when the 1st interlocking reason/factor for addressable output devices with NAC
type classifications occurs. Thereafter, the PAS is not started until the system is reset.
4) The PAS and pre-signal are not applicable if any interlocking reason/factor for addressable output
devices with NAC type classifications occurs during a Drill ON condition, and therefore, addressable
output devices with NAC type classifications are activated immediately.
5) The “PAS Inhibit” function is not available in IP zones.

6.28. Silence Inhibit

The silence inhibit function disables operation of the SILENCE switch and SYSTEM RESET switch of the FACP
and LCD-RA for a specified period after addressable output devices with NAC type classifications are activated
by interlocking. (i.e. Addressable output devices with NAC type classifications cannot be deactivated/silenced
for the specified period.)
The time range of the Silence Inhibit (i.e. Silence Inhibit timer setting range) function can be set from 0 to 300
seconds.
Once the Silence Inhibit timer is expired, the timer is not restarted again until the system is reset.

6.29. Auto Silence

The auto silence function deactivates addressable output devices with NAC type classifications which have
been activated by interlocking after the specified period elapses. This condition is similar to pressing the SILENCE
switch after the specified period passed.
The Auto Silence time range (for the Auto Silence timer) can be set to 0, or 600 to 900 seconds. Setting a value
of 0 second means No Auto Silence.
When addressable output devices with NAC type classifications are reactivated by expiration of the Auto Silence
timer (i.e. the configured period has elapsed), the Auto Silence timer is also re-started. (i.e. Addressable output
devices are deactivated when the Auto Silence timer expires in due course.)
The Auto Silence timer is cleared/reset when the system enters the Silence ON condition by pressing the SYSTEM
RESET switch or the SILENCE switch.

6.30. Delay time for output

This function delays the activation of interlocked addressable output devices for a specified period time.
The specified time range (for the Delay timer) can be set from 0 to 60 seconds.
If the interlocking reason/factor is cleared while the delay timer is counting, the delay timer is cancelled and
ended. If an interlocking reason/factor occurs after the delay timer has already been cancelled and ended, the
delay timer is restarted.
A delay time is typically configured for addressable output devices with Suppression type classifications. The
delay time can also be configured for addressable output devices having any classification other than NAC type
classifications.
However, the delay time setting is not valid in the following cases even if it has been configured.
1) In the case where outputs are activated immediately by the operation of “Activate” in the LCD’s menu
2) In the case where addressable output devices with Suppression type classifications are activated immediately
when an active signal is received from an input type addressable module having “Manual Release” classification.
(See section 6.34.)
3) In the case where addressable output devices with Suppression type classifications are activated immediately
when an active signal is received from an input type addressable module having “Second Shot” classification.

6.31. Soak time for output

The soak time function deactivates an addressable output device which has been activated by interlocking after
a specified period of time has elapsed. This soak time is typically configured for addressable output devices with
Suppression type classifications. However, it can also be configured for any classification other than NAC type
classifications.
The time range for the soak timer can be set from 1 to 999 seconds. A value of 0 second can also be set, and this
means “No Soak Time”. (i.e. The output is activated as “Continuously ON” in this case.)
The soak timer continues its counting operation even if the interlocking reason/factor is cleared.
After the soak time has elapsed, addressable output devices with Suppression type classifications are not activated
again until the system is reset. The only means by which addressable output devices can be reactivated is with
Second Shot, as described in section 6.33.
Addressable output devices with classifications other than Suppression and NAC type classifications are
reactivated at the occurrence of another interlocking reason/factor even after their soak times have elapsed.
*Note: Actual performance conditions of fire suppression systems using “Soak Time” shall be determined based
on thorough discussions and confirmations with fire suppression systems suppliers.

6.32. Abort of suppression system activation

Upon receipt of an active signal from an input type addressable module with “Abort Switch” classification, this
function stops the delay timer that delays activation of addressable output devices with Suppression type
classifications. Therefore, this abort function is effective only when delay times have been set for the addressable
output devices.
The active signal of an input type addressable module with “Abort Switch” classification is valid only for addressable
output devices with Suppression type classifications within the same zone.
The active signal of an input type addressable module with “Abort Switch” classification is applied to timers, even
before those delay timers of addressable output devices with Suppression type classifications have started
counting.
A maximum of 15 input type addressable modules can be configured with “Abort Switch” classifications per
zone.
There are following three types of Aborts.

6.32.1. ULI system

1) The delay timer for addressable output devices with Suppression type classifications starts upon receiving an
interlocking reason/factor. If the abort switch is activated more than 10 seconds before expiration of the delay
timer, the delay timer stops 10 seconds before its scheduled expiration.
2) After the delay timer has stopped 10 seconds before its expiration, if the abort switch is deactivated, the timer
restarts from 10 seconds before its expiration. (i.e. Addressable output devices with Suppression type classi-
fications are activated after 10 seconds.)
Thereafter, the timer cannot be stopped by any means until the system is reset.

2) However, the delay time cannot be stopped by pressing the abort switch after receiving the 2nd interlocking
reason/factor for the addressable output devices with Suppression type classifications.
Abort switch activation received before the occurrence of the 2nd interlocking reason/factor is valid for all
addressable output devices with Suppression type classifications which are activated by the 2nd and all
subsequent interlocking reasons/factors. (i.e. Timers for all these addressable output devices with Suppres-
sion type classifications are stopped 10 seconds before their expiration.)

6.33. Second Shot

The second shot function reactivates addressable output devices with Suppression type classifications, which
have been deactivated due to expiration of their Soak Times.
1) “Second Shot” classification is configured for addressable module input type.
2) An addressable module input type with “Second Shot” classification can belong to only 1 conventional zone.
3) A maximum of 10 input type addressable modules can be configured with “Second Shot” classification per
FACP/system.
4) Addressable output devices with Suppression classifications within a zone, which have been deactivated due
to expiration of their Soak Times, are reactivated upon receiving an active signal from an addressable module
input type with “Second Shot” classification within the same zone.
5) The active signal from an input type addressable module with “Second Shot” classification is valid only for
addressable output devices with Suppression classifications whose Soak Times have elapsed. Addressable
devices with other classifications are not affected.
6) The active signal from an input type addressable module with “Second Shot” classification is completely
invalid prior to activation of the addressable output devices with Suppression type classifications.
7) A “Second Shot” active signal can be initiated repetitively in order to reactivate the addressable output devices
with Suppression classifications a multiple number of times.
8) The delay time for an addressable output device is not applied when the addressable output device is activated
by the “Second Shot” active signal.
*Note: 1) The “Second Shot” function is not available in IP zones.
2) Actual performance conditions of fire suppression systems using “Second Shot” shall be determined
based on thorough discussions and confirmations with fire suppression systems suppliers.

6.34. Manual Release

This function activates suppression systems immediately. “Manual Release” classification is configured for input
type addressable module.
Upon receipt of an active signal from an input type addressable module with “Manual Release” classification, all
addressable output devices within the same zone are activated immediately. In this case, the delay time function
(see the section 6.30.) is not applied even if delay times have been configured for the addressable output
devices. (i.e. They activate immediately.)

6.35. Release End Bell

This function activates the alarm bell to provide notification of the completion of suppression system activation.
Therefore, an addressable output device with “Release End Bell” classification is typically used in the same zone
where addressable output devices with Suppression type classifications belong.
An addressable output device with “Release End Bell” classification is activated upon expiration of the Soak
Time of the addressable output device with Suppression type classification.
*Note: In the Integlex system, the expiration or elapse of Soak Time is defined as the completion of suppression
system activation.
•Example:
• Address no. 1006 Analog smoke detector [Alarm] level 9 Configured for zone 003
• Address no. 1019 Wet output type addressable module with “Release Circuit” classification 9 Configured
for zone 003 (Soak Time 30 seconds)
• Address no. 1021 Wet output type addressable module with “Release End Bell” classification 9 Config-
ured for zone 003
In this case, addressable module 1019 is activated by the alarm signal of analog smoke detector 1006. The
activation of addressable module 1019 is ended by the expiration of Soak Time when 30 seconds elapses. Then,
the addressable module 1021 is activated.
*Note: The “Release End Bell” function is not available in IP zones.

6.36. Low Temperature

This function provides a trouble signal when the analog heat value from an analog fixed temperature heat detector
or an analog combination type heat detector goes down to 4˚C (39.2˚F) or lower for 1 minute continuously. This
is to provide notification of the possibility of freezing in that area.
This function can be enabled or disable for each analog heat detector.

6.37. Silent Input

Activation of an input type addressable module for which “Silent Input” classification has been configured interlocks/
activates intended addressable output devices, in the same manner as the activation of other addressable input
devices. However, the activation of an input type addressable module with this classification is NOT displayed
on the FACP. (i.e. There is no display on either the LCD or LEDs.)
The activation event is only recorded in event log and is sent out from serial ports (i.e. Serial 1 and 2). The event
is printed if a printer is connected to one of the serial ports.

6.38. Day/Night/Holiday setting

Sensitivity settings for daytime and nighttime can be programmed for each analog detector.
The time period for monitoring with daytime sensitivities can be programmed. This means that times not included
in the daytime period are monitored with nighttime sensitivities.
All day-night mode monitoring can also be configured for each day of week.
A maximum 20 days can be configured for holidays. All day-night mode monitoring is also configurable for the
holidays.

6.39. Detector and module LED blinking enable/disable setting

LED blinking can be enabled or disabled for each analog detector and addressable module.

6.40. Node network

With the optional NIU and SIU, a maximum of 64 nodes (i.e. FACPs and SMPs) can be networked by a daisy-
chain system.
With the optional printed circuit assembly FIM, the network can be constructed with a fiber optic system.

6.40.1. Grouping of nodes

All nodes on the network belong to a maximum of 64 groups. Based on the condition of the particular application,
monitoring areas can be categorized as groups on the network.
There are the following two types of groups.

6.40.1.1. Master group

The master group is the group having group number 0. Nodes belonging to group 0 are able to manage events
from all groups on the network*.
The operation of control switches (i.e. ACNOWLEDGE, SILENCE, SYSTEM RESET, and DRILL) is effective
not only to group 0 but also to any other groups on the network.
In the meantime, the operation of control switches in other groups is not effective to the master group (group 0).
The master group can contain multiple nodes.

6.40.1.2. Local groups

Local groups are groups having a group number from 1 to 99. In a local group, each node is able to manage only
the events in the group to which the node belongs. The operation of control switches is effective only within the
same group. That is, the nodes in a group are “peer-to-peer”.

*Note: (1) Each node shall belong to a group. However, a node cannot belong to multiple groups.
(2) A maximum of 64 groups can be configured on a network. The available group numbers are 0 to 99.
Any desired 64 numbers within that range can be used. The group numbers to be used may not be
consecutive, so that undesired numbers can be skipped. (E.g. Group numbers to be used: 0, 1, 4, 6,
7, 11, 14, 20, 33, 34, 47, 58, 66)
(3) The event display and operation of control switches of LCD-RA are same as those of the FACP to
which the LCD-RA is connected.
(4) Details of trouble events are not shared among FACPs, even in the same group. When a FACP has
some type of trouble, only a general trouble signal is sent from that FACP to other FACPs in the
same group and to group 0.
In the meantime, the SMP in the same group is able to receive details of trouble events.

6.40.2. Disabling information from other FACPs

Each FACP is able to refuse information from other FACPs on the network. This function is used to display only
events received from directly connected devices.
*Note: Operation of control switches is still effective within the group to which the FACP belongs even if this
function is applied.

8. Limitations for connections and circuits

8.1. Wet outputs of the MCU
The MCU has two wet outputs, TB4 and TB5, which can be programmed for various purposes. The electric
rating of each output is 24VDC/1.5A (max.). However, the total of MCU’s 2 wet outputs and PSM’ 2 wet outputs
shall adhere to the following limitations.
•S size FACP enclosure: The total shall be 4.0A maximum.
•M size FACP enclosure: The total shall be 3.5A maximum.
•L size FACP enclosure: The total shall be 3.0A maximum.
•XL size FACP enclosure: The total shall be 2.0A maximum
Both of the MCU wet outputs are power limited*. However, they are non-power limited if configured with a NAC
code other than Continuous.
*Note: Power Limited
UL standard 864 for fire alarm control panels and accessories classifies all the wiring circuits which are
powered through connection to a FACP as “Power Limited Circuits” and “Non-power Limited Circuits”.
The criterion for evaluating this classification is listed in section 25 of the standard.
In the Integlex fire alarm system, circuits whose electric power decreased to less than 8A within 5
seconds of a short circuit are defined as power limited circuits.
Devices listed in the “List of Compatible Devices with Wet Outputs for the Integlex fire alarm system” in the
Appendix of section 13 can be connected to the MCU’s two wet outputs. Check with Nohmi Bosai Ltd. or its
distributor in your country/region if any other devices are connected to the outputs.
For the details of programmable classifications, refer to Table 4 of section 6.19

8.20. Connection of short circuit isolator

A Short Circuit Isolator (SCI) is available to protect the devices in Integlex loops when a short circuit occurs by
isolating only the short-circuited area.
If a short circuit is detected in the wiring of S+1 and S-1, that wiring is isolated in order to protect the devices
connected to S+2 and S-2. Conversely, if a short circuit is detected in the wiring of S+2 and S-2, that wiring is
isolated in order to protect the devices connected to S+1 and S-1. If the short circuit is removed, the SCI is
automatically reset to the normal monitoring condition.
All wiring to be used shall be between AWG#14 (1.5mm2) and AWG#18 (0.75mm2).

Figure 80: Short circuit isolator

*Note: Regarding the current consumption issue, the available number of addresses per loop changes depending
on whether short circuit isolators are used in the loop.
In the case of Style 7, it is required to deduct 1 address per SCI from the maximum number of addresses
of the loop (i.e. 255 addresses).
•Example: If 5 SCI modules are used in a loop, 250 addressable devices can be used in the loop. (i.e.
255 - 5 = 250)
In the case of Style 4, it is required to deduct 8 addresses per SCI from 255.
•Example: If 5 SCI modules are used, 215 addresses can be used. (i.e. 255 - (5 6 8) = 215)

10. Installation of addressable module and short circuit isolator

Addressable modules and SCIs are classified into “larger size modules” and “smaller size modules” as follows.
1) Larger size modules
•Addressable module for initiating device
•Addressable module wet output type
•Short circuit isolator
2) Smaller size modules
•Addressable module input type (normally-open contact)
•Addressable module input type, normally-closed contact
•Addressable module for manual station
•Addressable module dry output type
Both sizes of addressable modules are installed in electric boxes as shown in Figures 89 and 90 below.

11. The AC Branch Circuit

The Integlex fire alarm system is required by NFPA 72 to utilize a connection to a separate dedicated AC
branch circuit (120 or 240 VAC), which must be labeled FIRE ALARM. This branch circuit must connect to the
line side of the main power feed of the protected premises. No other equipment may be powered from the fire
alarm branch circuit. The branch circuit wire must run continuously, without any disconnect devices, from the
power source to the fire alarm control panel. Over current protection for this circuit must comply with Article 760
of the National Electric Codes as well as applicable local codes. Use a minimum of # 14 AWG with 600 volt,
insulation for this branch circuit.

*Note: Examples of an Auxiliary power supply as listed in the above tables would be power “extender” supplies for
NAC circuits. These devices provide additional 24 VDC power for NAC circuits and need to be included in
the AC power supply requirements.

The system’s 24 VDC power consumption depends on the total amount and type of system devices installed.
Upon determination of system 24 VDC power requirements, battery capacity can be specified. See section 12 for
the battery capacity calculations.

12. Battery capacity calculation

The current consumption of the system depends on what devices are used. Therefore, the required battery
capacity also depends on the devices to be used. Following the procedures below, complete Worksheet 1 on the
next page, and calculate the battery capacity to be required for each application.
1) In each “Quantity” column, specify the number of device units.
2) Multiply the figure in each “Quantity” column and the figure in each “Standby” column, and enter the result in
each “Total Standby” column.
3) Multiply the figure in each “Quantity” column by the figure in each “Alarm” column, and enter the result in each
“Total Alarm” column.
4) Total the figures in the “Total Standby” columns, and enter the result in the “Total (A)” column.
5) Total the figures in the “Total Alarm” columns, and enter the result in the “Total (B)” column.
6) Enter the monitoring time in the [C] column (unit: hours).
7) Enter the alarm time in the [D] column (unit: minutes).
8) The required battery capacity can be calculated by plugging in the values of (A), (B), (C), and (D) from Worksheet
1 into the following formula.
Battery capacity (AH)=1.26((A6C)+(0.01676B6D))/1000
*Notes: 1) NFPA 72 1999 edition - Local, NFPA 72 1999 edition - Proprietary, and NFPA 72 1999 edition -
Central Station fire alarm systems require 24 hours of standby power followed by 5 minutes alarm
activation.
2) NFPA 72 1999 edition - Auxiliary and NFPA 72 1999 edition - Remote Station fire alarm systems
require 60 hours of standby power followed by 5 minutes alarm activation.
3) Systems that derive auxiliary power from a generator require 4 hours of standby battery capacity.
